  1. Our Neighbours... One day when we visited our place when it was still early days during the reno, our neighbour pop out and say hi.. very nice man look to be in his late 50s... he started greeting us and tell us many stories about the neighbourhood.. after awhile, he started telling us the dos and donts to stay there.. Both myself and wtb listen intensely like a young couple (not so young la) receiving words of wisdom.. He went on and on about which neighbours are not in good terms with who and who.. and why we shouldnt park at certain part of the road, blah blah.. gosh.. so many rules to follow?? in my mind i was thinking why so many things to say one... neighbour help each other can liao mah.. anyway that was the first meeting.. after that everytime i go there, he will serve us drinks... he even went to our half baked house and give us a few pointers here and there.. I was really trying to be polite as the reno really inconvenients him quite abit, his being the adjacent house and some adjacent walls are affected.. Anyway, the relationship was really on a very amicable basis. Me and WTB were still thinking what a nice neighbourhood...........Until one day, he was very upset when he saw us.. after realising that we are shifting the entrance of our house.. he says we disturbed the peace of how cars are parked now.. as mine is a corner unit and at the end of the road, many household parks their car right infront of my unit.. anyway. tough to explain but our change in entrance did cause abit of changed in the norm.. me and wtb was like oh.. "did we created some animosity before we even move in... " and the truth fact is "YES" we did.. Recently, my contractor and PE was telling me that the authorities started asking alot of questions on our project.. and it was not common that they asked all these questions as those are not the norm.. we were even asked to cut out a piece of our structure for testing!!! My contractor and PE says, someone must have complained to the authority and they have no choice but to take action.. what the ****... all finger points to my immediate neighbour.. he is obviously still very upset with the gate changed!!!! He says now all the cars have to use his gate as the turning point rather than mine!!! Anyway, for CNY, I sent them a hamper just to try to make peace.. i dont know what else i can do to such a bossy neighbour.. everything i did was with proper authorization.... forgive my rattling.. but what to do?? what a great start to our new life... hmz.. not on sales, we bot them at GWC few months ago.. got sales ar.......... ????????? where? what products? I need a few more chairs..
  2. ya.. they are all laffing to the bank.. while i slog day and night! Anyway.. some of our purchases after searching for a long time.. Bontempi - Barone Table The top is white glass in very dense white pokka dot print and the leg in white too Kartell - Hi Cut Chair x 2 We chose the orange top to give a little colour to otherwise a very white house.. It took us about 3 months to nail down our dining table and chairs.. As part of the contract, our ID was supposed to search and recommend furnitures to us. After some recommendation from them, we decided to do our own search because their taste is totally way over our budget for simple stuff..
  3. nice! why dont put the shoe rack against the living wall next to the door? Is it full ht to block off the views? if that's the purpose then understandable.. if not, i thought its better to see the whole living plus dining once you step in..nice big big area!!
  4. oct?????? and you still have not got it? you should ask for a refund
  5. she is very fierce...! i to her day and night..
  6. I forced my salesman to give me a warranty card from their own set so that i can get a queue number so that i can "chop" a set... the collection place is not very friendly as they are only a service centre. they are not related to samsung.. you have to keep calling them to see if the goods are in already or not and yet i waited 3 months to collect mine... ! i was quite furious.. til now, i have only received the system and they have not given me my wireless module!! so, try to collect as soon as you can ba.. cos they dont keep stock.. if it runs out then you have to wait.. all the best for your reno.. enjoy it ba.. there will be some rough edges.. but overall you will be happy.. !
  7. Exactly the same as the set i bought... have you guys collected the Home Theatre system? it is huge.. almost cannot fit into my car.. the wait for the FREE GIFTS for me is 3 months.. !!! we also bought goodies for our neighbour for CNY.. it is major inconvenient for some of the neighbours.. so its good to get the relationship on a good start... doesn't cost much..
  8. Not really... but not too far away.. according to my knowledge, the rule keeps changing, so you cannot keep your info for so long... haha. i didn't have to do home shelter for mine according to my architect.. but we did had a discussion around whether it is needed or not needed, etc... anyway, with prices coming down recently.. maybe you would want to consider again???? PM-ed you the cost of the baby grand.. Well..i told my wtb jokingly that she is going to have to earn back the cost by giving piano lessons!! and i will make the banner to hang around the neighborhood and distribute the flyers... Baby Grand is just nice la.. Grand is abit too big.. picture is deceiving! space is not so big...
  9. well.. i will go and pick "junk" and re-do but advice against single storey. Reason is you may have to re do the house foundation if your intend is to build up to 2 or more levels. So, be careful with your choice. Foundation cost a bomb... One thing i learnt is that you need to do alot of homework about the area you are buying, how high and how wide you can build.. It helps you plan so that you can maximise your buildin area.. these are not off the shelves information.... you will need very good advice from your panel of experts... as i discovered, even moving sewerage is not a simple nor cheap task.. there are mistakes i made that i hope others will not follow...
  10. i thought their marketing gimmick has elephant sitting on the furniture? or something to that extend.. ahha.. I love their chicken wings and meat ball though... yum yum
  11. do you mean original designer or replica? and when you says accessories, what do you mean?
  12. MBR toilet.. nothing much here.. just a simple toilet but pretty open concept. 2nd floor guest room 2nd floor guest bathroom Studyroom.. a very small area actually.. Most important to the lady of the house... shoe cabinet Kitchen.. After finalising our design.. sort of.. First thing we rushed to buy is a baby grand piano...! We love the idea of a white grand piano in the house.. yes WHITE. Everytime i see a house with a piano.. i always tell myself that i will get one eventually.. So, it was our first piece of indulgence.. It is going to be WHITE and it will be GRAND.. hahaha.. Well.. another thing that started to really fly.. besides time is the money out of my wallet.. We were told to do the following 2 things 1) Soil investigation 2) Demarkation survey of area Costs that i had not factored in, not small sum, they are in the thousands..
  13. These are the 3D pictures given to us by our IDs. Some are quite close to the final product, some have been changed.. I realised that until the final thing is up.. usually we dont know how they will look.. even with 3D.. haha External look of the house.. it was a very bold attempt by us to adopt this design eventually.. It was a very unconventional piece of work. We took into consideration that the house is going to be stayed for a long time and thus we wont worried too much about resale value or if the next buyer will like it or not.. we went with our gut on this.. Livingroom area... This is abit closer to how it eventually became.. we wanted a very open concept living space, maximizing every area we have.. we extended the side which is the glass canopy you see... original house doesn't have that space.. MBR.. It is a very simple motif headboard, acryllic light.. the WIW is behind the headboard facing the MBR toilet....
  14. ok.. let's continue.. chelsea sucks..! My IDs As it is my first landed, i have zero experience on what i need to do so I started asking around colleagues and friends. I was thinking of a major A&A initially..obviously when you look at the conditions of the house.. (you will find out later i cannot just do A&A). So, my conversation with colleagues circled around if I should get an engineer, an ID, an architect or a builder to start my project. Most advice is to get a professional engineer to look at the place to help me start.. I called an engineer that my boss used but she refuse to do the job because she was too busy!!!! That's how good market was then.. So, I discarded the idea... then I called up a friend who did her house about 5 years ago.., she highly recommended her main contractor to me.. I called him up but he says he is too busy!!!! In the end, I started with my ID.... it started quite well with him quickly panning out the idea for the house and we were quick to be sold into his ideas and visions of the house... He is pretty good i would say in design... but he is **** slow! I wonder if its because it is a husband and wife team, they are so slow with the design that it took us a total of 6months to pin down most of the concept and design.. however, on hindsight it was really quite a waste of time frankly.. as in the end, we changed many things.. and their service arent cheap at all. My ID really only just know how to design. He is not good with practical aspect of a landed house and is very consume into his design, very defensive if you dont agree with his design.. in the end, as the story unfold, it become one of the reason why the project became a very painful process.. around eastcoast area....... you stay around there?
  15. Is this the only quote you got? It's hard to compare apple to apple because each house is different for a landed property. My suggestion is to get 3-5 quotes and compare item by item from each contractor, then you can question the differences and ask for requotes. You can even tell the current contractor that someone quoted stairs at 4k, yours is 7.8k, why? That way, you will be able to work towards a better overall costing and force them to look for a cheaper subcon.. that's what i did.. hope it works for you too.
  16. ok.. .this was what it was.. It was very badly maintained as it was rented out. I didn't really care much about it as i was going to tear it down.. more than 30years old.. kitchen view to yard from kitchen back yard another backyard. garden with fallen trees.. patio area stairs to 2nd floor 2nd floor ok.. that's all for today.. need to watch my soccer match.. house was in very bad conditions.. i was only aiming for the land.. its a corner terrace at an area i love.. so what the heck.. but i was confident to make it into a dream home! ..
  17. This is my first landed property.. i seldom see landed property t-blog. the only 2 that mod recommended me to read is wuga and chunky monkey, besides that, there isn't alot of information on landed property.. is there not many landed owner in the blog? well... i would like to share my pain with all of you.. Chronologically.. 1. Bought the house after i sold my apartment in jul07. 2. It was at a high but sell high buy high then.. so im pretty ok. 3. Got the key in Oct07 cos previous owner wanted to delay because of Ghost Festival. 4. Started searching for an ID. We visited at least 5-7 IDs. I am not naming them cos some I also cannot remember their name as this was some time back. 5. Finally decided on my ID who is a husband and wife team. Recommended by my colleague. Well, of all the IDs we went to. They were the only one who can capture my concept of the house quickly on paper. i wanted a very airy open concept home as the space isn't huge and i want space. Other IDs give me very cut and paste job from other projects. 6. Start to conceptualize and going through the design with my ID from Nov07 7. After 6 months of designing!!!! in May08, we finally decided on our main con after a tender for 3 quotes, requotes, blah blah 8. ME and Architect engaged 9. Work started in Jun08 So, here we go... will post pics later........
  18. Anyone using this brand of toilet fittings?
  19. I am looking to move my sewer. Any one knows any plumber?
  20. different countertops used different ratio of materials.. This is for maintenance tips for Corian but I think the care and maintenance remains the same for any brand.. there are other useful information on the site which can be used for people's references. http://www2.dupont.com/Surfaces/en_US/prod...orian_care.html There are advantages and disadvantages for different materials.. you can use, wood, glass, stainless steel, laminated wood, bla blah blah.. the key is to choose one and understand what it is and how to care for it.. teach your maid/MIL/FIL/whoever uses the kitchen what to do/not to do.. If you are indifference about maintenance of home, equipments, electronics, electrical, then anything also become difficult..
  21. used to have one open concept kitchen.. but i dont know how to use my induction... hahhaha...... so i never cook.. only use the microwave cum oven.... but i like the concept.. but i guess no major chinese style ze cha cooking with the wok and all.... no curry also... it depends on your lifestyle but as rummi said, plan the space properly so that if you change your mind, it wont cost you an arm or leg.
  22. if you have space.. a sliding glass door is nice. http://www.hafele.com/images/HAA_Products_...dax_386x500.jpg
  23. what type of wood and material are good for kitchen cabinets? Laminates tend to have adjoining line.. gloss paint scratches easily... so what's your perfect choice?
