we have done the handover with our ID, Dave. there are still outstanding works to be done, like replacement of shower screen and checking of the plumbing in our toilets, which he has promised to send his guys down next weekend as we are not able to be ard during weekdays. in retrospect, the reno process was probably not as bad as some of the horror stories we've read around the forum; tho there were some unhappiness over certain issues which cropped up along the way, he still remained amiable and professional thru'out the entire process, at least in front of us. though response wasn't as fast as we wanted @ times, he has always been accomodative to our requests, and never told us outright that what we wanted couldn't be amended or changed. we changed the configuration of our kitchen cabinets about 3 days b4 carpentry was due to be delivered; he checked with the carpenters and had them do the change. when we wanted additional lights to be installed in our display cabinet, he also spoke to his carpenters and electricians, and our lights were installed. granted, we had some upsets, especially with our marble flooring - have gotten that part settled, dunno if dave feels the same way as us tho. but as we have told him - he lives with his pain for 2 days; we live with our pain for the rest of our days in our home -
our mirror fm unikhome was re-delivered - much better service this time - the guys who delivered it were fm the coy itself, and they took great pains to measure the accuracy of the holes on the wall and on the mirror before mounting. they also looked fm every angle to ensure the mirror showed a nice image, and installed additional brackets @ the bottom. seems like the previous guys did a shoddy job of drilling and measuring the holes.

handover has finally happened... Reno have concluded the HO for our new place with our ID. there are still some outstanding rectifications to be done; they will be completed next weekend as both of us are not able to be around during weekdays for the guys to come over and do the place, so can only do it on weekend. initially had a long list of items, and the guys did come up to repair/touch up all the painting works, tiling and carpentry stuff thru'out the day. when our tv was delivered, realised the signal wasn't very good; informed our ID about it, and he got the electricians to come down immediately to change the TV cable. outstanding stuff include touching up of the paint work on the wrought iron main gate, replacing of shower screen due to scratches on it, addition of rubber strips to the shower screens to prevent water from coming out, checking of the pipes and WC in the common toilet by the plumber. we trust tt our ID and ideal design studio will honour the agreement and turn up next sat... tho final payment has been collected! Items # our mirror fm unikhome was re-delivered - much better service this time - the guys who delivered it were fm the coy itself, and they took great pains to measure the accuracy of the holes on the wall and on the mirror before mounting. they also looked fm every angle to ensure the mirror showed a nice image, and installed additional brackets @ the bottom. seems like the previous guys did a shoddy job of drilling and measuring the holes. # tv fm audio house, 3M solar film fm jestac and tempered glass top for our dining table from sun sun glass were also delivered on track today pleased with the services from all thus far... no major problems with any of our vendors which we got our items from. time to start cleaning up and getting ready for the move!

hey greenfish, our ID did provide us a schedule... the work wasn't delayed. our ID told us tt he would slot in his pp when he was able to, so we were fine with that. the works to the house were done on time... our HO has been delayed tho, but that is cos we haven't been able to allow them to do the rectification works due to incompatibility in timing; and there r always new things coming up we wanna be ard when its done, so asked them to come and do all @ one shot tomorrow. am gg to tick off each item one by one as it gets done. hopefully everything can be settled nicely and positively tomorrow... after a seemingly bad spate of publicity, we hope our ID can break the trend n have us post glowing reviews of the entire process! -

yes, the final results r most important. we will be waiting to see the final results of our reno tomorrow... which means all rectification works done nicely and settlements agreed upon amiably. hopefully HO can happen tomorrow. we will then post a proper review of the entire process -
yeah... just passed the fan to the ID. he coordinated everything. we were charged additional for the ventilation fan point tho... $60 bucks for each point. Our fan model is 15WUD? its the 6" model. at least tt's what written on the invoice - $50 bucks each.

i'm also near admiralty for now! not as near as u tho... @ ring road side. despite what others say bout woodlands being inconvenient, i quite like it and yes, tell me bout the stuff u have to do... weekends r burnt settling stuff for the new place, waiting for deliveries, blah blah blah. enjoy!
-
tbb, sorry to hijack ur thread too - today 2nd msg on ventilation windows i m hijacking, haha. hey greenpeace, we did the below: u can get ur windows contractor to fabricate the hole so it can be fixed - just remember to pass him the fan before installation of the windows.
-
haha AJ, this mural stimulation thingy is really catching on. maybe u could really consider having new do one for u. it does bring a different feel to the place
-
hey silverbullet, ur house is very nice... love the toilets probably cos we feel our toilets r lacking... somehow didn't turn out as nicely as we wanted them too... which part of woodlands do u stay in? one half of us is staying in woodlands now too! the wife stays there now... but moving to bishan in 2 weeks. r u also waiting for the 7th month to be over?

the carpenter gave us a whole hoo-la story about the different kind of blum hinges available on the market, how this model is better than tt model; @ first all the doors only had 1 blum hinge; then after we made noise, the ID came back and installed additional ones on the slamming doors... but they r still not fantastic. ours r those kind tt r attached onto the door hinge. dunno whether its the particular model. haiz... what is the blum hinge model u're using? -
we have both 1. toyed with installing aircon in the living room too, but our unit is an old one - the compressor has to be installed outside the house on steel brackets - so one compressor to service all 3 rooms + living room would render it pretty useless; would not be strong enuff; also, BTU needed to cool living room would be too large; not practical too. have u confirmed ur aircon installer? get them to calculate the BTU needed to cool the living room based on the floor area, and they can advise if its practical. since cannot install aircon, fan will do. its doing a pretty good job so far... the fan is mounted on the original ceiling - we have L-box with downlights @ the side. asthetically, its pretty enuff. 2. cannot remember the model of the KDK ventilation fan we got for both toilets, but according to the salesperson, its the smallest one in the mkt, and suited for HDB flats - i think we got it for $50? must check the invoice on that. our ID helped us to fabricate the window panel so tt the ventilation fan could be mounted onto it; just buy the fan, and get ur window contractor to do it for u - saves u the installation! just remind ur electricians to add the switch for the ventilation fan. think we have pics of both the ceiling fan and ventilation fan on our t-blog; u can go take a look

thanks, jaskel... that was what ID told us too... we r wondering if we should change it to this system - provided ID can waive the labour charges, heh. our blum close-closing hinges are not working fantastically tho... doors r either closing too loudly, or get stuck in mid-air... -
maybe... after all we grew up in a world where kitchen cabinets have no anti-slam - no major accidents in all my years... heh. ID said he would change the system to another hydraulic one if we felt this one isn't "strong" enuff. let's see what he proposes on sat

hi coke, thanks for the grand tour real place looks much better than the pics! wanna find out fm you... how is the service fm 138 movers? we also sourced for several quotes on moving our bed frames + mattresses over fm our current place to the new place; so far 138 movers is the most competitive, followed by shalom movers. shalom is pretty well-known; so wanna ask how the feedback for 138 movers is? if its good, might give the job to them. the most worrying part about the moving is whether they r able to dismantle and assemble the bed frames properly, and whether they are able to transport our huge 12" king-sized mattresses into the lift!

hey rasp, finally remembered to check on the top of the door... initially just felt the top of it, abit rough. took a pic of it top down with my lousy hp camera... and u r rite. it is bare @ the top. thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention... another area for rectification this sat... the bare top area of the door
-
u r right! nice rite... we liked the shiny effect on the catalogue; but it isn't so shiny on the wall leh but urs is brown... which is nicer... we thot we chose the brown too, but... hmmmm
-
if the zig-zag pattern is laminate - it can be pasted over isn't it? but then, there will be ugly joint lines... agree with rondy and jaskel - do get him to change the entire door according to the original design.
-
it seems like blum is the "maggi mee" of the anti-slam brand names around we also requested to have that top hydraulic changed to blum, but ID said too exp - $300 plus... worth paying?
-
unikhome was supposed to call us to update us about the mirror today... no news fm them we're gg to be quite pissed when we call them tmr
-
hello, would like to find out feedback fm all those who have used this hydraulic system for the top kitchen cabinets - how good it is in terms of durability and wear and tear?

hey jaskel, how is the blum mechanism working for your dish rack? good? we're thinking if we should get it changed to tt... but ID told us it would cost $300+++ excluding labour. worth it? -
ur place looks really good am sure you're having a good time in there now. bedroom and toilets are nicely done up!

dishrack question hi everyone, another question fm us... for the dishrack above the sink... what is the better system to install for the soft-closing? hydraulic or...? cos many of our frens use the hydraulic system, and it always seems to break down after a few months. it either gets stuck, or the hydraulic stops working, and the glass panel will come slamming down. our place's one is currently installed with the hydraulic system (pic below). is the hydraulic system above hardy enuff? the wife is afraid that the glass panel will slam onto her head one fine day when she is washing the bowls... should we request to have it changed to something more heavy-duty?

20% for the final payment is not too bad already... our remaining payment is only 5% holding power has effectively reduced the moment 95% of the total cost was made....
