  1. Just moved to a new place in East area... now desperately looking for a part-time maid to help clean the house once a week (on Sat/Sun). Normal standard cleaning plus ironing. Anyone has good recommendations? Don't really want to go to those cleaning agency cause pricey and heard service so-so only. Thks in advance... cheers!
  2. i heard it's ok to continue reno IF you started the reno process BEFORE the 7th month itself. however, if u're not rushing, then perhaps it'll be better to avoid the 7th month entirely for your reno.
  3. I'm looking to change my current alumunium grilles to wrought iron ones. It's for a balcony, common room and yard. Any good and reliable supplier/contractor to recommend? I searched online and came across PangGiap, dunno whether is this good or not... any advice? Many thks!
  4. i'm also looking to change my grilles... to wrought iron ones. other than PG mentioned here, any other to recommend? also those who had used PG before, what was the experience and workmanship? thks!
  5. Hi Pinklady, my 'minor' reno cost is ballooning as days go by... reaching $20k liao Below are the key items I'm doing: - 5 new laminate doors & 1 tempered glass door - 2 sliding-door wardrobes - 1 kitchen cabinet with solid surface & tempered glass panel - 2 toilet cabinets & 1 vanity counter with solid surface - 1 wall-to-wall storage low cabinet - 1 shoe cabinet - new door handles/knobs, hinges for whole house - electrical works (think total abt 20+ new light points & 10+ new power socket points) - sand and varnish 3 bedroom parquet floors - repair damaged parquet flooring - new skirtings - painting for whole house - general cleaning, dismantling and misc. services Overall, I think it is not cheap but also not too expensive (I hope)... but more importantly, I want the quality to match the price. So far, I'm quite happy with my contractor's service and quality (except the carpentry, still 50-50 and can't really tell as it's not fully completed yet). Now keeping fingers crossed and hoping all will turn out okay. Targeting to be completed by end-July.
  6. LG switches & power socket Downlights and spotlights
  7. Thks skyblue. Actually the general condition was okay but just very dirty and unappealing. The worst was the kitchen which we were quite amazed how the previous owner could cook in such an environment!!! Lucky there aren't much build-in stuff so basically we're free to do whatever we like. Also we realised that a fresh coat of paint and some touchups can really do wonders! Here are some comparison pictures... original kitchen rotting counter-top after hacking off the awful cabinets original living room after adding some downlights, painted 1 coat, new skirtings...
  8. Finally gotten our very own place! Being excited homeowners, we decided to start a blog to track the renovation progress as well as to serve as a reminder of how the place used to look like... i.e. Before vs After. Had gotten some useful tips from this forum so now trying to contribute a bit back. Feel free to check out our blog and give us your comments. Cheers!
  9. anyone know where can i get a square rug, size of about 150cm x 150cm? if size slightly bigger or smaller still ok. actually even if a slight rectangle shape (but not too long lah) also ok. it is meant to be put in the middle of the Living Room under a coffee table (90cm x 90cm). i went to ikea but there's nothing i like leh. any suggestions or lobangs will be greatly appreciated. cheers
  10. Nice switches. I'm also thinking of getting legrand from Choo Chiang but debating whether white or silver. May I know what is the price you got for the silver and also what is the price difference from the standard white one? Btw, do you need the exact model when at Choo Chiang or will they help you? After all, I understand they're distributor so may not offer too much advice to walk-in customers. Thks!
  11. sorry to hijack the thread... just to ask a simple qns. is undermount sink better or overmount? i'm thinking more of the water seepage problem from high usage and wear and tear. thks!
  12. Will be getting the PLC lights myself to save cost since the contractor will mark up if I leave everything to them, and also I can choose the designs I like. So the question now is - "Should I buy and then let my contractor install them OR should I get the lighting people to deliver and install at the same time??" Also I'm getting some ceiling lights and hanging lights from different places. So should I get the different lighting people to install their own lights or just leave everything to my contractor? My contractor quoted me $12 to install per light... is that expensive? Dunno how much the lighting people will charge. Other than cost, will it be easier if the contractor does it since they will be the ones cutting the holes in the false ceiling and setting up the new lighting points? Any advice is appreciated. Thks!!!
