Got my first quotation from Ho Bee Am now wondering if its really necessary to have a kitchen cabinet, fridge and washing machine base if I don't pour water to wash the kitchen flr. I suppose only if the kitchen floods then will have issues. Apart from those who did suspended kitchen cabinets, has anyone done their kitchen without the bases?

Yes, I did. I thought really long and hard about this and figured that as long as I stay in a HDB flat, there will always be a possibility that the place will kena decorated by loansharks, even if you are an innocent neighbour, so what the heck... Saw from your blog that you engaged Ho Bee as your contractor but a separate electrician. Am thinking of doing the same as you and was wondering if you could pm me your electrical quote from the electrician so that make a comparison. Thanks!

May go stroll along Jln Besar when I source for sinks and all the toilet & electrical stuff and see if they have these pipes coz when I was walking along the paya lebar/Tai Sing industrial estate that day to check out Gnee Hong, Comfort & Lush, I saw alot of factories but none of them seems to sell these industrial pipes...

ya boy!I have a direct train that goes straight to my office..everyday can find a seat on the train. Even though the journey is longer and a bit more expensive than the NEL, I don't come to the office feeling irritated at being squished at the door while other people choose not to move to the middle of the carriage.. Worth the extra time and $$!

i've been thinking of doing my own dining table with the old bedrm door and some pipes.. My bedrm door is the simple, old type with no pattern at all.. just smooth surface and the knob. Thinking of asking the contractor to laminate the door and leave the drknob hole for wires to pass through when I do steamboat! Dining table should hopefully look something like Qn as always, is where to get the pipes..

heh..done! Just shortlisted 2 contractors/ID and now looking for the 3rd. My preference is a contractor who can speak English, no need 3D drawings.. I had shortlisted some even before I had gotten my flat based on the forum here, but some of the contractors/IDs have ran into issues shortlisted then have either closed shop or have serious customer complaints, so must look again <sigh>.

ok lah... not so bad... Still can get 1 meat+2 veg for $2.30 - $2.80. What I really like about my area is the nice, big trees along Sgn Ave 2.. I just hope they don't chop anymore down for the new bus interchange and shopping centre. A tree that takes 20 -30 yrs old to grow into a respectable size that can provide shade gets chopped down in less than half an hr..<sigh> Nowadays, NParks plants all those "lollipop" trees that don't really provide shade at all! It may be more practical coz less branches will break if there's strong wind or rain, but the disadvantage is no shade lor.. I didn't know our side has gd crab place!Where do you go for crabs?

Yah... the dust factor is making me wary abt having open shelving... I was thinking of placing metal framed sliding glass/acrylic panels in front of the shelving (not doors, but flr to ceiling full-length glass/acrylic panels) at a later stage when i have more money. Moreover, I plan to have cats at a later stage, so I would need to protect my figurines and bks from them!

Wah... how did you put your colored comments into the quote? Must learn from you all.. I'm a techno dinosaur when it comes to all these. I plan to change ALL piping n wiring. The owners had stayed there for more than 13 years liao so i think will have to change everything. Sliding dr for storerm: Plan to get 2 panels.. 1 slide to the left, the other slide to the right. Dun intend to laminate those doors. Just paint them over. Door can be simple MDF or fibreboard...Can't get swing dr as it takes up space. Yah... aiming to be uncluttered for kitchen.. I think that the more storage you have.. the more you will stuff things inside and will forget abt them. But may add a shelving on the top... so that the things I usually use will be in sight...See how first... looking forward to see your kitchen! Am currently using baby KDK for my bedrm with remote.. Agree its very powerful, but once i put to second speed it gets a bit noisy (got the "whup whup" noise)... I'm thinking of fanco aroma or maybe the amasco empire. (need to do for kitchen?) Spray paint floors of the 2 toilets & kitchen Hack off kitchen cabinet, change rubbish chute to the flat type. Change store room doors to sliding ( currently it's those accordion PVC type) Seal up CBR's door opening(may insert display shelving there since already got 1 hole) & knock another opening facing the LVR Have sliding panels as doors for CBR & MBR Plaster & paint any walls not covered with tiles or furniture Use industrial pipes and mdf boards to do full-length wardrobe & full-length, wall to wall shelving area in CBR for TV, books, etc Do kitchen bottom cabinets with aluminum trim & s/s countertop Glass splash back have a 2-1 inverter aircon Ceiling fans for the 2 bedrms & LVR Now, question is can I do all these with less than $20K?

After lurking in this forum for more than a year, I've decided to start a T-blog to increase the number of 3rm reno blogs in the forum. Not sure how frequently I can update the blog, but for now, here is the flr plan: It's a low floor, corridor unit that is just 2 minutes walk from the Serangoon Circle Line interchange and just down the road from my parents. The gd thing about my unit is that I only have 1 corner unit neighbour on my side of the floor. There are 2 other units on the other side of the floor but we are separated by a VERY LONG corridor. No lift yet though, so must climb up. Second appointment is in late June, so will probably need to start sourcing for contractors soon. Reading so many blogs on IDs and contractors has gotten me a little stressed out with all the possible things that could go wrong.. but will take things as they come... praying that I will be able to find a gd & honest contractor that can work within the very small budget I have in mind. One thing I would definitely want is to paint 1 living room wall & perhaps the entire common bedroom in matte black (hence the moniker "The Cave" for my flat). I have lots of bks, anime figurines, paintings, etc to display, so am not too worried abt the flat being too dark and dull... I'm quite sick of white. The only place where white will be seen is on the ceiling, toilets and kitchen.
