  1. The kind of cordless vacuum you want depends on whether you are interested in a stick vacuum or a handheld vacuum. Both of these can be found with cordless design. Personally I don't think any of the brands mentioned are particularly good. If you are in the market for a stick vacuum consider the Hoover Linx, the Eletrolux Ergorapido or perhaps one of the Black & Decker stick models (if you can find these here). You may want to view the list of high quality stick vacs on Vacuum Cleaner Advisor. If you are more interested in cordless handhelds then the Black & Decker model PHV1800CB is the way to go. It gets very, very good consumer reviews and has a long lasting battery charge (often a big problem with cordless handhelds).
  2. There's a promotion going on now for Miele S4212...only $508 with several freebies thrown in. Wonder if it is good. Any one owns Miele S4212 and can give some advice? Hubby has seen demos at Courts for Dyson DC19 and likes it. Since it's GSS now, thought we could get some good offers and change our vacuum. Please advise me on which you think is good. Thanks in advance. Both Dyson and Miele make good vacuums however with respect to canister vacuums I'd have to say go with Miele. Their reputation for canister vacuums is very good and they are still made in Germany. Also the S4212 is actually a vacuum series and there are 2 different canisters in the series - the Polaris and the Neptune. The Polaris is best for short-pile carpeting while the Neptune can manage low to medium-pile carpet. They are both excellent on bare floors. I would suggest looking at the articles on Miele vacuum cleaners at vacuum-cleaner-advisor.com. You may also wish to consider the newer Miele S2 series of canister vacuums - if you only have hard floors then the entry level S2 (the Olympus) is a great buy.
  3. I have done a lot of vacuum cleaner reviewing over the last year. My thoughts on this would be to consider a Hoover. Of course it depends much on your needs but Hoover have something for almost everyone. There are some decent reviews of Hoover here Hoover Vacuum Cleaner Reviews (at least this guy isn't just writing 1 paragraph - he/she appears to be doing some proper digging and research). Also if Hubby has a sensitive nose consider something with a HEPA filter. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air and is a filter that removes 99.97% of all airborne particulates of 0.3 microns or larger that pass through it. It is important though that the vacuum passes ALL of the air through the filter, otherwise it will not be effective. Emily
