  5. Thank you. The process was tiring but fulfilling for the both of us. The workers work pretty fast. The plastering uncle also worked on Sunday. Those items are the decorative stand the ex-owner left for us. Heavy item. Will place in balcony with the other items the ex-owner left for us.
  6. So far so good for me...only some minor hiccups. Congrats on your new home. this is my blog. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=25259
  7. Some updates. Lights and grilles installed 1) Balcony 2) Living room and grilles 3) Kitchen before carpentry 4) Common toilet door installed 5)Master Bedroom before carpentry Carpentry commencing tomorrow onwards.
  8. Defong is renovating my home now. I like the progress and that Jeremy does call when in doubt and also explain the pros and cons of the options. Workmanship for masonry is generally fine but I will check for details once the painting is done.
  9. Renovation is now in the final stages: Left with Plastering, painting, fixing the windows & grilles, electrical works and carpentry. Facing cashflow problem soon. We selected the colour for kitchen cabinet, bedroom floor laminate ( 3 different colours/ textures for the 3 bedrooms!!!), laminates for wardrobe and Masterbed feature wall. The objective is to have different themes for different areas of our home. The paint colours were selected. The ID has stated that he will be using Matex paint but we selected from the catalogues of Nippon and ICI. Hope the skills of his painters are good.
  10. Windows arrived. Silver frame, black glass Kitchen wall tiles (back splash) laid. Wiring laid. Window frame laid. Earlier, we were considering what kind of backsplash to use: Option 1: Tempered glass Disadvantage: Cannot take prolonged/ strong heat and Glass will shattered due to a strong, careless knock, especially for clumsy people like me. Advantage: Easy to clean and maintain. Looks presentable. Option 2: "Laminate"... Saw this wall panel in IKEA catalogue. Claims to be heat resistant as it has a good content of melamine. Disadvantage: Not sure how much heat it can take. Being plastic, there is a fire risk involved. Advantage: Cheap and replaceable. Option 3: Wall tiles. Probably the most traditional. Disadvantage: Discolouration will occur in the grouting. Advantage: Easy to clean and strong "crash"-resistance Option 4: Stainless Steel. Metallic feel. Disadvantage: May get sticky easily. May rust depending on grade. Advantage: Durable. In the end, we went with the traditional choice.
  11. Hi, Congrats on getting your new home. Suggest that you work out your budget for renovation and furnishings first and have about $5K extra just in case;)
  12. Update 08.11.2008: Toilet wall tiles laid. Common toilet Master toilet We went to get our sanitary ware, toilet accessories and kitchen stuff at H*p*a*ri today. The lady who served us was patient despite our "silly" questions and random change of selection:) but she seems weak in design. Most of the products recommended was those popular with customers. The costs of the piping, pan collar, etc was not mentioned till the end of our shopping. So it is better to ask for more details and not to assume. Nevertheless, we managed to get a fair discount but unfortunately, had to pay GST! Damage is about $3000.00. Will try to update the list of stuff bought.
  13. If your kitchen is long as mine and you do not have much stuff, perhaps you can limit the length of the cabinet and do a tall breakfast table with bar stools.
  14. Update: All sand and materials are in yesterday. Due to the heavy rain blown in, many packages of tiles are soaked. I guess it is ok as the tiles need to be soaked anyway... Went to take a peek today, First tiles laid. Patching up of walls are in progress. Just wondering why the floor tiles are laid starting from the entrance.
