  1. Hi, I suggest that it's good investment to pick up some basic FS knowledge such as the Flying Stars analysis if you truly believe in FS. In the past, I only take instructions without knowing what's going on and the reasons behind. Sometimes, when you need to do minor adjustments, you are not sure if it will affect you because FSM normally don't go into very details and monitor if your life is well. Perhaps Master Chang is an exception here given the good feedbacks I see. My mum consulted a FSM in year 2000. We went accordingly to his instructions. No great improvements were felt but at least we were living with minimal problems. Then came 2004, a major shift in the flying stars where all readings done in 2000 were void and expired. No one in the family knows how important it is to get a new reading after the expriy and we were strucked by a series of misfortunes. Till recently, I picked up some knowledge on the flying stars analysis and I started to trace back on the reports done in 2000. He has done the readings correctly, much of which the basic principles are there. My colleague also complained to me that his FS was not working very well as he experienced health issues in his family. I looked at his FS report and it was done in 2003, his report only lasted him one year. We sat down over coffee and review his report, simply based limited knowledge that I have, we are able to see that his FSM's reading adheres to the basic principles of the flying stars analysis. So nothing was wrong just that it's expired after 2004. Today, I still consult a FSM to review my house, but now I appreciate FS more than ever because when you understand what's going on behind, you have the confidence in your FS report. Consulting 2 FSM can be good and bad. Good is when they give you simillar reports. Bad is when they give you different reports, then who should you follow? Consult a 3rd? Therefore, your basic understanding on FS will come handy in this kind of situations, on a day-to-day basis, a knowledge that lasts you a lifetime.
  2. My FSM gave me the green light to place a LCD in front of my bed. I was surprised by that too. Placement of furnishings and objects comes from the Form School of FS, perhaps the influence is not as critical as compared to observing the stars chart but some basics must be observed as such you don't sleep facing your bedroom door. Some of the reasons I read was that TV is Yang and generates electromagnetic interferences which disturbs our sleep at night. Other reasons is the TV panel acts like a mirror due to it's reflective nature which can startled you in the middle of the night if you see your own reflections. If you are quite often startled by the mirrors in your home, then it's not good FS. Most of the time, the best practice is to cover up the TV with a cloth after use, or build a cabinet with sliding doors as cover.
  3. Thanks Ripples! I do have a mosaic backsplash too. In fact when I told my reno contractor that and he said it's illegal. He added that power points must be 60cm above the solid top. Sometimes rules are meant to be broken especially maintaining design concepts. Is this suggested by your ID or it's your very own direction? Sometimes ID can whip up fantastic designs but you will soon realize the practicality is often compromised. The best part is you don't see appliances appearing in ID magazines, and even IKEA's catalog.
  4. Hi, I am also trying to adopt the minimalist look but it seemed like a challenge for normal living. For instance, my microwave oven, rice cooker and electric kettle are daily necessity and high usage. When I placed them on the kitchen top, I can see the appliances' wires being plugged into the electricial point loacted below the top cabinet, spoiling the whole concept as the wires run across from top to the appliances. I have to keep them in the cabinets after use to maintain the minimalist look. Any other practical solutions to have these appliances placed on the kitchen top permanently?
  5. What you are referring to is the Form School of FengShui, where it focuses on the positioning of your furnishings. I think this only contributes to a very small percentage to good fengshui. What matters most is your sink, fridge and stove's position and their respective direction so that the fire and water element don't clash with one another. Most importantly, if you are doing a kitchen renovation now, it's best to get your stove's position right. The more critical FengShui is to look at your house's star chart because these stars have an influence over our lives. It is actually very tough to follow every principle in this modern era, some of which needs to be compromised for practicality.
