  1. Other stuff: Oven to be installed: Basin for MBR
  2. MBR Toilet - installing the hollow block Tiling of bathtub started
  3. MBR toilet blue mosaic tiles Bathtub installed
  4. MBR Toilet during hacking MBR toilet after tiling (not totally completed yet) We chose white on our IDs advice, as it would make the room look a bit bigger, which I think was good advice, though I wish we had more of the blue mosaic tiles.
  5. Master Bedroom and MBR Toilet: Before During MBR Toilet We're going for a beach feel with bathtub! Shower area
  6. I heard these guys are called 'Orang wiring' :-) Kitchen Sink
  7. Kitchen: Initially, we were ok with the kitchen and I thought we wouldn't have to do any reno works at all, but my better half insisted on a new hob and hood. After we got the flat though, I noticed that the work top was stained and greasy, so decied to change the worktop to granite. There was also no oven and that's something we use quite often, so we had to do some carpentry work to fit it in nicely and deal make the big empty space below the hob look nice.
  8. Changed the switches to Rocker Switches. Unfortunately not legrand or clipsal. Basically no name, but it works... Service Balcony: I didn't snap a pic of the service balcony area before the reno, but the tiles were the original HDB pink tiles and the paint was a chocolate colour. The wifey and I chose rustic-looking Spanish tile that we're quite happy with. After Hacking After tiling
  9. During: Still During - electrical works done. Still during - my projector screen is up
  10. Hi all, I've learned a lot from this forum, so I thought I should share a little of the experience my wife and I are having during our renovation. A friend of mine has given our crib the name Rancho Relaxo and I think that's sort of what we're going for. Relaxed and comfortable. We had a budget of 10K in mind, but that's been overshot by a whopping 50%. To be fair to our ID though, we've been happy with the workmanship so far and everything's been pretty smooth with only a few minor hiccups. Plus we did do some extra stuff after the contract was signed. Although I also have to add that they are a bit more expensive than some of the other ID firms out there....ahem. The process of selecting and ID started a month ago and renovation works began on the 16th of November. It's been an exercise in balancing things that absolutely had to be done and pampering ourselves with a few luxuries we decided we deserved I usually enjoy the threads with lots of pics, so I'll do my best to show more pics and write less. Before I start though, I'd like to share one piece of advice- For anyone doing reno works, please make Lightings.com.sg your first stop for your lighting needs and take down their prices. They can't be beat. OK...let's start. I'll be showing the before and during pictures for now and add the 'after' pictures when they happen. View from corridor: 1st HDB appointment: 15th September 2009 2nd HDB appointment: 27th of October 2009 Price: Ridiculously high..... Living Room The living and dining area is actually a nice space, but it unfortunately had a false ceiling covering the entire area which had to go in order to make the space bigger. There's also a freaking beam that divides the room, which I'm going to hate for as long as I leave there.... Before:
  11. Hi guys n gals, can I get some feedback on this sink? Thought it was a good choice because the left side is bigger and could handle bigger items to wash, but now find the small "basin" on the right a bit "pointless" maybe something with two equal basins would be better? Any thoughts?
  12. Dude.... Optoma HD20 is maybe not fantastic, but better than the models you've listed above. Selling at Audio House Liang Court. Look for Casper.
  13. Hi brothers and sisters, I would like to give my wife a custom-made white dresser for Xmas and would need some recommendations for a good carpenter with reasonable prices. Have any of you custom-made wood furniture you're satisfied with and didn't cost an arm and a leg?
  14. Nice!! How are you going to transport it? Using Singpost from LA? or straight be UPS, FedEx etc...? How about warranty. Is it worldwide and will the service ctr here honour it?
  15. In the end, the smallest 'decent' oven I could find was Tecno. http://www.tecnogas.com.sg/product_details...3-1126A74C0FD3} Almost got a made in Germany Bosch, but it was more expensive and had less functions. Had my eye on a made in Germany Electrolux, but was too deep (570mm) and read mixed reviews. You can install the Tecno and have your carpenter build a "frame around it, so it doesn't look completely fugly. The carpenter could even cut out the backing of the kitchen cabinet to have more space to fit the oven.
  16. Ha! i so empathize with you. My space restrictions + budget shaped my final purchasing decision. The previous owner built the kitchen cabinet at 54cm with the worktop almost reaching the "standard 60cm". Long story short, I settled for an "acceptable" brand and with a depth of 35.5cm. My ID is getting the carpenter to remove the cabinet doors, will do some work to make it look nice. So you can have it protrude out a little and then build around it to look OK... hope it helps..
  17. Yep.... bulbs cost lots of money, so bare that in mind. You should know that home cinema projectors are produced with lower brightness, because if it's too bright, your eyes will find the image harsh and not so comfy to look at like in the cinema, so like deepakvali said, you need to dark out your room. Having said that most home cinema projectors with more than 1200 lumens will work nicel even if there's some light or ambient light. If you are going to use this as a TV you probably will want more ANSI Lumens / brightness. Or just use a projector AND a TV. I'm installing both in my living room. For cinematic experience, playing games and havving your buddies over to watch football nothing beats a projector, but to watch serials, cooking shows and the news, you'll probably want to do that with a TV.
  18. I think vincenzo gave some solid advice and KEC is a good shop. I'd say Onkyo and Denon offer good bang for your bucks. Audiohouse are having a package for the Denon AVR 1910 + Boston Acoustics CS2310 5.1 speakers at $1199. I bought the Denon AVR2310 as it sounded better to me and handled dynamic movie scenes better. Came with the BAs too. The BA speakers sound slightly better than Jamo (IMHO and like vicenzo I can't stand Jamo, Also don't like hk or most JBLs) but are not great for music. However, they handle movies really well and do acoustic music and pop well. So overall, I thought why the **** not and bought it. I have two B & W speakers that I will probably use as front speakers and then have an absurd 7.1 system *drool* but as vincenzo said if you have money check out Bowers & Wilkins. they sound and look sexy.
  19. I'm so with you dude. Sofas have to be comfortable and practical and although the package is very tempting, I couldn't compromise on this thing in the house. I can compromise on a lot but sofa, mattress and sound system cannot. Disclaimer: I'm not saying Calypso owners are compromising, I'm sure the sofa rocks your world. It just doesn't rock mine.... peace!
  20. I was curious about that too! It seems you either love it..... or don't. My wife sat on it for exactly 30seconds and I gave it a few minutes and wanted to like it. But couldn't. I guess people have different expectations for sofas. Probably borne out of personal experience and preference.
  21. InFocus, Optpma, Epson and Sanyo are really good bets. You might want to inform yourself a bit and look at the projectors. LCD projectors tend to be bigger but don't produce a rainbow eefect. DLP projectors are smaller, have better colour (slightly), but can produce a rainbow effect. (google rainbow effect. some people see a rainbow effect when looking at DLP projectors. I have no such problems but some of my friends see it a lot). Optoma HD20 is the cheapest 1080p (HD) projector in the market.
  22. You're right dude. Think the salesman was telling porkies. Will do an upgrade to 25K BTU tomorrow. I've got a Denon AVR-2310 AV receiver with boston Acostics CS2310 speaker system and might use my B&Ws as front speakers, so eventually will have 7.1 system. Yummy! Will probably install Optoma HD20 projector as the inFocus X10 is no longer available.
  23. Thanks for the advice dude. I went ahead and got it. Seems to be low stock at the moment, so my choice was between a Sanyo 18k BTU and a 25k BTU. To my surprise the salesman pushed me towards the 18k BTU, eventhough I was quite keen on the 25k BTU. His reasoning was that he was concerned my powerpoint couldn't handle a 25k BTU compressor and that it would be expensive to run in the long time, plus he was convinced 16k was enough for my living room. After reading your post and consulting another AV enthusiast, I decided to get it. If I didn't do it now during my reno, I know I'd be pissed off for a longtime. Thanks again!
