  1. Pergo is a Swedish brand, and not made in Ger or Germany. They are using the hpl production method which is no longer quite relevant, as the dpl method is able to achieve higher abrasion levels, and also more interesting surface design variations. So instead of starting all over with new production lines, I suspect that they contract others to manufacture for them under the Pergo brand. They are the "inventor" of laminate flooring, and if you do buy their hpl product, you can be the proud owner of a piece of history, because the hpl method is history
  2. Berry is an established European brand, reliable but definitely not "high-end". run-of-the-mill would be a more appropriate term.
  3. Hi, that's why there is this strong emphasis on the 'clic' joint for laminate flooring; to prevent surface water from seeping through from accidental spillage or wet mopping. The Quick-Step uniclic and Valinge's click patented joint systems are accepted as the universal standard by all the leading brands in laminate flooring. Some manufacturers offer planks with 'wax' or some other form of coating on the joints to prevent water seepage, but these are not really effective over time, as the floor is going to be there for many years. Another alternative which I do not see over here, is to use joint sealer such as ClickSeal or SealGuard, which offer a more permanent protection against surface water in area prompt to moisture such as kitchen, bathroom entrance, or near windows ( if you are one of those who tends not to close your windows, when leaving the house ) Note: Trust me, I am fairly knowledgeable on this subject, as I was in this industry many many years ago
  4. Dr A, the tactile surface is what attracted me to the Voque
  5. hehehe OK! I will go and negotiate for 10% then if you and lach let me keep the xtra
  6. Hey! Don't you think we deserve to be paid for all these promotion works for Quick-Step
  7. TWENTY MONTHS! and This is your 1st Posting! In support of your dad's second career I Wish You Tonnes Of PMs
  8. Hilarious! nice one lachesis Dr A and boatgal, lachesis is right that laminates are not suitable for balcony which are expose to wet weather. Better to stick with the regular outdoor decking stuff. Also on the subject of V-groove, I noticed that the 'wood grains' follow through the groove which is another remarkable feature of the Largo, unlike the cheaper stuff in the market. Personally, I don't care for 4-sided V-groove planks but it does look great on the super-size Largo.
  9. YES! The balloon dog is my favourite among the lot, and also the part where the cute little girl was playing make-believe barbie dolls with sponges, and her friend just couldn't get it Btw I like the Largo too, and am thinking of that for the planned make-over of my twelve years old flat at the end of the year. Either that, or if by then they brings in the other range Voque, which is really Wow! But seriously, I think the quick-step stuff are a class above anything else I have seen here.
  10. Could be a new form of "wall-art"
  11. Cool! an air purifying floor Maybe you could put up another thread about this brand that may not have the look of a real wood floor, but make-up by doubling as a ionizer, or post it in the home appliance section
  12. Absolutely gg! It goes a long way in making some people's day, and that is already rewarding.
  13. I am using Mepla hinges for my kitchen cabinets, and also wardrobe. Brought them from Hafele who was the distributor then, that was 12 years ago. Also the Mepla Dynamic slides. Until now, still functioning well Good brand
  14. lol, of course the floor that still looks good at the time of sales.
  15. As ctan mentioned: higher moisture, light, abrasion, and impact resistance. The other things that I would like to add is aesthetics and ecology. Laminate is able to accentuate the beauty, and eliminate the flaws associated with real wood. With the higher quality laminates, you get the rich textured handscraped look of real wood, with broad variations in wood-grain. An example is Quick-Step's Largo, which has 60 variations, so it is not easy to spot a repeat of a particular patern in a room. And of course you are assured that no exotic trees were cut down for your home
  16. Stick with a Good laminate Brand, it has lots more pro than con compared with the other two That is unless you are a housing developer in which case you may need to boast that you are providing expensive materials to cater to the snob's appeal of certain class of buyers.
  17. Good advice, and rightly so Both are good quality finishings, and what counts is the aesthetic.
  18. Hi, the following are top quality cabinet hinges that are available here which have the soft-closing or anti-slam mechanism: Salice - Italy, Hettich - Germany, Blum - Austria, Mepla (Glass)- Germany. The prices are relative to the function, eg. opening angle, weight of the door, and the cranking. These 4 brands set the standards that other brands follow.
  19. Hi, I think engineered wood could be the alternative. No acclimatization time needed, but you will need to have it glued down to have the solid feel.
  20. Hello Sunshinegal ba What is Pergo ba well known for ba?
  21. hahaha, me think so too! There is a german term zeitgeist, that translated to "the spirit of the time", and I guess at that time the name Quick-Step may seem appropriate as they were the one who change the way laminate flooring were installed: that is glued down or nailed down, to the floating floors today. That really 'quicken' the installation process, and allows you to 'step' on the floor immediately.
  22. This Excel product you mentioned does not fall into the category of laminate flooring in the real sense, although it has a laminated surface. The core is not of wood fibre, but used a composition of synthetic materials mainly. This type of product is commonly grouped as Composite Board. It has high water resistancy, but it's composition puts it on the same platform as vinyl planks which means NOT ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY. Also, it is not clear who manufacture this product, and what are the "resins" that are used in the composition; are there any health risk? does it gave out toxic gas if a fire breaks out, any BCA approval for use in homes? Laminate flooring on the other hand are eco and environmental friendly, which is key reason for their popularity worldwide over the past decades.
  23. Can the government drop interest rate? I thought only the banks can do that. Anyway, since the government is clamping hard on ah longs, better borrow from them and then report them; no need to pay
