Hi Minerat, I was browsing and came across your post a few years back on this issue, which sound similar to my situation. My home is a condo unit (about 20 years old). When I bought the place 7 years ago I renovated and installed new aircon but did not change the pipes. Just a month ago, a strange pool of water of about 10 cm diameter appeared in the middle of my bedroom parquet floor. It is not near the window. When I wiped dry, I could see a little water seeping out of the parquet floor. But this incident did not repeat. I checked with the Management but they told me there are no water pipes running under the bedroom floor. It was weird and I couldn't find an explanation. Until I read your post. I never thought the aircon drainage pipe would be run under my floor as the aircon unit is above the door, across the room from our attached bathroom.. Also, I wonder why the drainage pipes does not lead to the common bathroom, which is just outside the door where the aircon unit is situated. Did you just do a replacement of the drainage pipe? That may be cheaper than repairing the old pipe. Then is it ok to just leave the old pipe there but not use it? Wonder how you solved your problem? I would appreciate greatly if you could give some pointers. Thank you Sunny88

Thanks for comments, Pelect. We got an electrician to check the wiring. And rectified the heater electrical fault. Only issue now is to get a replacement heater switch for as the existing switch is spoilt - the doorbell- type switch works but the light is spoilt. Its Clipsal brand but electrician told me this type is hard to find. Alternative is to change to the standard switch but this means re-wiring and pvc trunking. Sigh! Please let me know if anyone has seen such a heater switch.

My electrician says this type of heater switch is extinct. This works like a doorbell and when you press once the light comes on and stays on. When you press again the light goes off. I have hunted many hardware shops but am told don't sell.Tried to buy online but can't find. I can't replace with the usual type due to the wiring. Unless I change wiring which means hacking wall or Pvc casing. Help! Have you seen this before?

Thanks for your views and helpful advice. Not very sure what is this wiring diagram you are referring to?? This is what I have behind our circuit board. I don't understand it at all. I just had a discovery today. The heater switch outside the bathroom is not effective at all. The heater only switches on if I switch on the heater circuit board and will off if I switch the heater circuit board off!! OMG. I'm not sure what the implications are. The MCST referred someone who is familiar with our condo units and has been doing renovation works. I called him and he was the one who suggested by passing the heater circuit board and charging me $700 for PVC trunking to the 2 bathrooms. I asked and he confessed he is not a licensed electrician. So I'm not very comfortable with getting him to do the works. Should one be fussy about engaging one with a licence? Hmmph!

What's puzzling is if you are so certain there is nothing to lose, why post the thread to ask if it is "crazy" to book 4 years ahead??

the brand of heater is AO Smith. I called them a few days ago and they suggested that as the heater is more than 10 years old, I should replace it. However, it is not leaking and is working well. Only thing is the heater switch is the doorbell type switch - you know, the tiny button comes back up after you press and there is a small light to indicate it is on. I asked AO Smith but they said they do not do heater switches. However, this light spoilt a year ago and we have on many occasions left the heater on for a day or so...Tried to get a replacement switch and scoured the hardware shops but was told this type of switch not in the market anymore. True? Soon after the tripping incident, I encounter a mysterious case of the ceiling LED chandelier that lights up by itself. Any clue if this may be related to the electrical wiring? Although we are able to bathe with hot water for the time being, but we are very uneasy and are considering getting a licensed electrician to check the apartment's wiring and advise if re-wiring is necessary. Worried about short circuit and all of us perish in night time fire!!!

Thanks for your reply, Pelect. Here is a picture of the heater circuit board.( I am told we are the exceptional condo in Singapore with a separate circuit board for heaters only. I won't know cos I'm not a technician. ) Since I last posted, I manage to get someone to have a look and he identified that the fuse was spoilt so he replaced it. Now I can switch on the heater but I have to switch off the main heater circuit board power as well. This was not how it operated before. We are told that there is a problem with the heater circuit board and the handyman contractor we consulted suggested by-passing the whole heater circuit board and re-wire the heater directly to the main heater circuit board. Unless we hack the walls, this means HDB type trunk from the 2 heater switches all the way to the storeroom where the circuit board is. This is ugly but if there is no choice, I am prepared for it.However, I am not sure if this is the only choice? Any views anyone?

We contacted the electrician who quoted $700 to change the control board, change the 2 heater switches and re-do wiring for both heaters. He said heaters look okay and need not change. No hacking but he will do the HDB flat wire casing from switch to the false ceiling. Ours is condo and all wiring to date is concealed wiring. One of the heaters is about 10 years old and other is 6 years? No leakage. Both working fine to date. Problem was the heater indicator switch has been spoilt for a year or so and sometimes I suspect the heater is on for whole day. Would this cause the trip? Is $700 a reasonable fee for some wiring works only? I am a newbie at reno works and would appreciate some feedback. Thanks! I was thinking may as well change one of the heaters but how much will the installation charges be? I note a lot of forummers quoting $100 to $200 for installation - other than the piping works, would this include the wiring work to instal the heater switch etc? May I have a quote please. There are 4 in family - 3 persons use one bathroom and 1 person use the other bathroom. This is a condo. We use 2 bathrooms and there is existing 2 existing old storage heaters, one in each bathroom above the false ceiling. Is it more cost efficient to have just one big storage heater instead? Or would the installation and piping outweigh the costs savings? the bathrooms are not next to each other.

My Indo helper has finally decided to go home and get married in June/July. She has been with us for more than 6 years. I am thus looking for a maid to replace her. We have moved into new house for 6 months. Recently, I noticed that there was "blackish mould" in the silicone sealing used for these 2 areas: bathroom sink to join with the bathroom tiles; and the area joining the showerscreen to the aluminium lining on the bathroom floor. This "mould" can be seen but it is trapped within the silicone and cannot be scrubbed off. We complained to the contractors cos it happened within 2 months. They said yes will fix it , then came to re-do new silicone, but warned us that the problem will recurr and it did after a few months, even if they use the best silicone in the market. Any advice? I'm flabbergasted!

It has been a few months since our renovations are completed. We had installed brand new shower screen in the bathroom. Recently we discovered that the "stainless steel" border at the bottom of the shower screen appears to be rusty - with a brownish discharge. We are trying to contact our ID to look into this. Is it possible for it to be rusty? Any forummers with experience in this aspect?

Hi Bepgof, Obvioulsy you are very experienced. After reading your post, I am very worried. I have already fully paid upon completion of renovation works about 2 months ago. However, ID has arranged for repair works FOC, I think, cos there is no mention of costs. She had previously told us will guarantee rectifications within a year, and so far has not reneged on this verbal agreement. But if this "cracking business" is going to recur every few months, then I doubt she will keep getting her contractors to come down to do free works.

Now some cracks in the paint have been spotted around the hacked area. We had also removed a door between the toilet and a bedroom and re-constructed with wall. Now, long cracks in the paint are spotted all over the "new wall" . We voiced our complaints to the contractor and he said he will paint over it. May I seek the advice of more experienced forummers: 1) Could the cracks be due to more serious underlining reasons? 2) If he just re-paint, won't the problems recur in a few months time? 3) How can this problem be best solved? replaster and repaint? Will be grateful for any advice
