Actually I am not sure if we have made the correct choice on fridge because initially we were looking for one with a capacity of about 300 to 400 litres since we are not likely to cook very much. But this fridge is much bigger. It has a capacity of more than 500 litres which means the power consumption is significantly higher. The reason why we bought it is because Gain City is selling it at a discounted price of $888 when the usual price for such a large fridge is more than $1000. So being typical Singaporeans, my wife and I cannot resist the seemingly good deal and decided to buy it. Now I am thinking whether we have made the correct choice . For windows, we get our own contractor (highly recommended in this forum) rather than our ID to do it because our ID's quote is very high, I think close to $6000 for installing the grilles and changing all the windows. The window contractor whom I engage is only charging $4225. Even my ID admitted that this price is very good. But I must also thank my ID for taking the initiative to remove the balcony windows and grilles that we have asked him to include in the renovation contract so that all the windows can now be done by the new contractor.

Glad to hear that. As you know, my kitchen colour scheme is following yours .

Then I must pray that my ID's carpenters are skillful because I am using 0.8mm laminate .

This morning we saw on the newspaper advertisement of Gain City Expo show and decided to go down to look for cheaper electrical goods. We reached there at 5+ and headed straight toward the air-cons section. Why? Because when we bought our LG system 4 from their IMM branch 3 weeks ago, we have to pay $399 for the 5-year extended warranty. But now the advertisment says it is free. So we want to fight for our rights. Coincidentally, we saw the salesperson Benjamin who served us at IMM right away. I told him that we did not know that there will be an expo show and he told me he did not know of it 3 weeks ago too. But when he saw my slightly blackened face, he quickly retrieved my invoice from his file and told me that he will waive the $399. So our first mission is accomplished in less than 15 min . We next went to shop for electrical goods. After 3.5 hours of shopping, we bought the following: Ariston ARF105 Washing Machine: LG 42" 42LF20 LCD TV: LG GRB207WVQ Refridgerator: So the big items are all bought .

Hi kopi, borrow your blog again . I want to use glossy laminates for my kitchen. My ID told me that the unevenness of glossy white laminate will be visible under illumination of light. So I asked around in this forum if their white laminates have the same problem. A few of them say using thicker laminate (1.8mm or 2mm) will help. So I ask my ID if he can use 1.8 or 2mm laminates. And I quoted from fftw's T-Blog that her ID is upgrading the original 1mm laminate to 1.8mm ones w/o extra charge. But my ID says his laminate suppliers don't have 1.8mm laminates and even 1mm laminates come in only a few colours. Most laminates are 0.8mm in thickness. Yet fftw says 1mm lamintes is the norm. So I am very confused. To all customers of this coffee shop: what is the thickness of the laminates you used for your carpentry? Is it 0.8mm or 1mm?

Is your house locked after the workers finish their work everyday? If it is then the camera should be taken by one of them.
-
My ID says it will cost a lot more, so I am not considering it.
-
Hi fftw, my ID has replied me that all his laminate suppliers do not have 1.8 mm laminates and even the 1mm types are available only in certain colours. So I will be using 0.8mm laminate. By the way he also says that 1.8mm laminates will have more obvious joint lines which may affect the overall apperance of the cabinets.

My ID says he has done glossy white laminates before and he says the result is quite acceptable to him. So I think I will still go for it .

We just went to the house with the window contractor to take measurement. I think many windows are still in good condition. so we will only change the dining room and kitchen windows and install grilles. I think the top up should be about $1500 .
-
We are patiently waiting for the reno to start in about 3 weeks time . So far, the reno budget keeps increasing , the latest being changing of the all windows. Initially, we did not want to change the windows because they are old but still working. But the owners messaged us to advise us to change them since they are as old as the flat - 16 years. So tonight we are going to the house again with our window contractor to take measurements. Another $3000+ i think .

Really no extra cost for changing to 1.8 mm laminates? My ID has warned me of the same problem for glossy laminates and when I told him some people say using 2mm laminates will help, he replied that 2mm laminates are very expensive. I accepted that because 2mm is double of 1mm and logically the cost should be significantly higher. But now Dennis is willing to give you w/o extra charge, so good. I have quoted your case in an email to my ID last night and I mentioned Zara Interiors also. Hopefully my ID will be able to give me a similar upgrade .

Hi butterfingerzz, thanks a lot! Your kitchen looks very very good. I always thought that light monochrome laminates will look boring and so I told my ID to design my kitchen cabinets similar to those of Supersimon's. But after seeing the pics at your T-blog, I was like 'wow, so nice, I like it!' Maybe for my next house I will use your kitchen as the reference . By the way, I read from fftw's t-blog that their ID is using 1.8mm laminates for their cabinets to minimise the wavy effects. Can I check if you use the 1mm type or the 1.8mm type?

No, one compressor can support a few blowers. For me, I am installing a system 4 inverter to support air cons in my 3 bedrooms and the study. The compressor will be mounted outside the master bedroom. I cannot install more air cons because the flat is old and the power cables can only take 8.5A. Too many air cons will cause the power to trip .

Yes, we like the space of the house too. And I prefer EA flats to EM ones because I always feel that having all the rooms on the same level gives more flexibility for reconfiguration. Having said that, many of the older HDB flats, mine included, have one problem - the toilet bowls, which cannot be shifted, are located at a very bad position, making it difficult to construct larger and hence nicer vanity tops. Also, there are no air-con latches and the air con compressors will have to be mounted outside the windows which is slightly unsightly. So your condo have many plus points over HDB flats .
-
Ha ha, I think you have gotten a really good ID , and your reno process will certainly be smooth and enjoyable .
-
Wow, you have spent a lot in renovatng your previous EM and you have stayed there for only 2 years +. What's the reason for shifting again?
-
Hi CJREDDEVIL, since you are knowledgeable in this, can I check with you on this: Even if I have sold my condo for more than 30 months, I can only apply for a new HDB flat if me and my wife's combined salary is less than $8k, right? Any difference for those DBSS flats?
-
I will vote for your choice too because it is nice and easy to maintain. Where is the light shop by the way? I am eyeing a similar light found at lightings.com.sg. The picture of the light can be found at rainbowgal's T-Blog.

Hi amrasenelya, thanks for the compliments. Yah, he told us to get those 3 stoves arranged like the 'therefore' symbol type. The size of the hob is determined by not only the number of stoves but also the space between them.
-
not just the floorplan, also the superb view from your windows .
-
Wow, the completion date is pushed back by 2 months? What happened? Hope everything turns out better than expected for you eventually.

Wow, it looked like a bungalow. Anyone who has lived there before will find it difficult to part with.
