oh ok, 10 ft sounds more reasonable..just got another quote for the mirror at the same price of $640 for copper free mirror (will not result in copper oxidation corrosion). the quote also gave an option of using conventional mirror at $576. Well, i'm happy that i can get a better price. but this copper oxidation thing might swing the decision towards the more expensive one. i've seen first hand what copper oxidation can do to a mirror and its NOT pretty. as for stevie g, ya i also prefer him playing in the middle. however, he did score the most goals in his career playing on the flanks. and since lfc has such lame widemen, i suppose its a practical decision to play him on the flanks. but centre is where he belongs. el nino..haha don't pray pray. i'm an avid FM player. but honestly, anyone who watches the game or reads TNP will know gerrard's strong traits la. i know part of the reason you're impressed is cos i'm a girl right? - don't deny it!
-
Wah that's mega! i'm quite determined to find a lower price than $640..sounds really jacked for a thin piece of reflective glass! And btw, how can you only like gerrard's long shots?! what about his drive? his passion? his never-say-die attitude? even from a non-supporter, you surely must appreciate those points..

the standalone tub very difficult cos water will splash all over the floor! i need shower curtains leh. cannot la. and the sit down tub is so small and "ji", defeats the purpose of a bathtub la. muahaha $5k tap. buy one and forget about buying anything else for the toilet..lol. i don't intend to recce tubs yet la..due to budget constraints, we're most likely gonna have to just "reserve" the space to put the tub in the future..

hey thanks joseeng! will check it out shortly.. ya, as long as people don't come in here talking about everton! muahahaha..can talk about everton park. cannot talk about everton. ya leh..my hb's response was "Wow" when i told him the price. the price includes installation with backing and bevelling of the edges. and yes, mirror clear glass on flat wall..

cartoon network background?! lol..you also very funny...haha nope we won't be combining the two rooms cos don't wanna affect the resale value as we intend to sell after 5 years. and mr. hdb don't allow bathroom extensions more than 0.6m2 (which is so super pathetic a space they might as well say no extensions at all) so even if we wanted to expand the bathroom into the utility room, it's not going to be (legally) possible. we will try to extend it to the max la but it all lies in the hands of mr. hdb.

lol, sounds familiar.. wah all these talk about food is making me hungry! they don't sound like confinement food leh! lol..you live with MIL? seldom hear MIL cook then dun clean one leh, most of them very fussy about these things.. a change of manager, thats what we really need for the longest time now. mourinho would be a good replacement, albeit a controversial one..haha! they need to get rid of all the deadwood like lucas (omg).

eh your wife is so funny..hahaha..me + my hb also very bathroom "oriented". we spend so much time discussing the bathroom, planning out options etc. i hope we have enough space for a tub..sigh!

hey merydith, thanks! ya its true chinese cooking = oil (most of the time). so very difficult to maintain open shelving, unless you've got a maid la. confinement must eat alot of deep fried food?? the five years have been filled with lotsa joy and frustration..its been quite a rollercoaster ride. we also considered a while ago to buy the shares via the supporters' group. not sure what happened to them though.. well said..and how true too..lol.. i think by adding glass to the top cabinets instead of having all laminates, it makes the kitchen more interesting and not so cookie-cutter and would help enlarge the place if you have a small kitchen. if you use clear glass, then you'll prob need to buy some china or colourful nice plates/cups to display. frosted glass might be a better idea la since cannot see so clearly. we won't be doing any top cabinets so i won't have this dilemma..

can anyone PM me Alex's number? TIA!

wah angteko, your reno progressing really super duper fast! you must be very pleased.. the black kitchen tiles is kinda unique..first black kitchen i've seen so far..would it be very dark? or are you installing many lights? haha..

yep! my hb's been a lfc fan longer than i have though. i only started after watching their comeback in istanbul. will never forget how my hairs stood on end watching that. *shivers* next time no more anfield liao. but if the govt creates a new street/area called "Stanley Park", you better grab! haha... haha, thanks! when i first heard my hb, i also thought it was hilarious! i felt like a bit of a traitor saying "I live at Everton Park" but now there's a new perspective!

Site Visits - Round One This was the first weekend after our first appointment. Very gan cheong to get moving and so, invited five contractors down. Of these five, four already knew what our requirements were and already gave us a preliminary quote via email. We are working on a tight budget and hence, our first criteria is price. Here are the five: 1) Henry from ID Note Henry was late for almost an hour! To his credit, he did apologise several times and explained that he was late because he set his GPS navigator to Everton Road instead. Not sure if that's an excuse cos Everton Road is pretty near to my place, only like a 5 mins drive max. Anyway, we went through my requirements really quickly as I had another contractor waiting. He told me that it wasn't possible to level the kitchen and living. And that if we do cement screeding, the floors will definitely crack. 2) B&E Builders The only lady we met the whole day. She seemed nice, not too outstanding and no red flags either. When I asked if her company had experience doing cement screeded floors, her response was "Of course!", as if I'm asking her if they have experience tiling. She is a sales rep so she spent more time writing notes and making sure she's got our measurement right than the rest. 3) Compact Builders My hb and MIL's favorite. He was the first guy we met, and was waiting for us at the door when we reached. Then once my MIL realised he was Baba, case closed. Sharing the same heritage meant they made easy conversation. Also helped that we shared the same surname. He showed alot of experience in cement screeding, talking about doing cement flooring for carparks and hair salons. Told me it wasn't necessary to lay stainless steel strips - "add cost only, for what?". He say even if crack, also can plaster back. We like him, and as of now, he ranks first. 4) Colorado Design This poor guy came on time but was kept waiting since Henry before him was late. Sounds really experienced, gave valid suggestions like boxing up the kitchen mega pipes since we were doing open-concept kitchen-hall, plus we aren't doing the top cabinets. Suggested hacking only half the kitchen-living hall to create a counter top to put cups etc. 5) Effulgent Builder Responsible and friendly contractor. Shared that most of his clients are referrals and become friends. Sounded like he had alot of experience of cement screeded floors too. Told me he recently handed over a shophouse unit nearby at Spottiswoode Park that he did cement floors for. Said levelling of kitchen and hall floors should not be a problem. He sounds a bit pricey though (even though his first quote was low enough for him to be shortlisted), telling me that his projects are mainly landed houses. Round Two will be happening next Saturday. Hopefully can secure Yeak to come down, he was too busy to make it for Round One. Also speaking to Ossify, hopefully he can give me better prices! Ossify, are you reading this?

ok thanks for the advice! yep..we're thinking of having one in our bathroom too..going to merge the bath & WC into one and expand a bit as well. still in the consideration stages..lol. thanks again for sharing!

hey..sorry i only saw your message this morning so didn't help you to remind henry about the quote! yep, we met with 5 contractors over the weekend. henry was late for almost an hour!! he came with another guy. we were done pretty quick cos since he was late, another contractor was already waiting. sheesh...so paiseh leh.. thanks.. actually the valuation is very high for a 3-rm flat, justifiable only by its location. it's in original condition as you can see from the pics so we managed to nego it below value.

hi el nino, thanks for the info..does $600 include the cost of the tub?
-
hey el nino..i see you're installing a bathtub in your home. mind sharing what the cost of installing is? how much did the tub cost? TIA!

eh rondy!! touch wood, choy ah! don't worry, im not stupid enough to pay contractor in full la. for the agent fee, i also very bei kum wan to pay up all on 1st appt. but that's according to their company's contract (Propnex). they've been pretty decent to us and helped us with getting keys earlier, requesting for earlier 1st appt, gave us their cheap contractor's contact etc. so i think not too bad la.
