  1. ok juz met Henry juz now and had a look @ our hse, nth done today. SS top comin tmr to rectify. I'm told tt they can somehow fill up e hole and then smoothen and cannot see any difference. Hav my doubts if tts possible but shall see since its supposed to be do-able. Tink wifey doesnt feel v good to know tt its a 'rectified' piece instead of a whole piece but i guess since its man made, if they can make it sui sui den im fine. Glass works supposed to be up tmr, painting touchups supposed to be done tmr, carpentry supposed to b totally completed dunno tmr or day aft. New handover date: thursday, 14/10. hope sui sui la.
  2. hmm.. dun recall seeing anyone besides Henry durin tiles choosing.. yea mayb those 2 guys r new.. at least they looked v new! we actually tot they were interns at 1 point.. haha..
  3. yea, works wise are ok la, except for e tiling at the MBR toilet. in fact e rest of e tilin works r still pretty ok. carpentry works are pretty ok too(of cos minus e coordination part by their tou shou), quality ok la i tink. talked to some of e guys workin e carpentry at our hse a couple of times. they're pretty nice n friendly pple. painter still hav to do touchups but till now seem relatively ok. windows, quality nt exactly up to scratch, seems abit shoddy but stil acceptable. Door, my main door still hav to rectify, 2nd time already, cos the top n bottom nt aligned with the door frame, initially top nt aligned, den they came n adjust den bottom not aligned.. -_-", stil yet to adjust again. ahliang e electrician nth to say, yandao, gd, nice, on e ball, love him. floor lamiante pple: pretty ok i guess.. any rectification henry ask dem do they do plastering guys: pretty good, smooth walls all over Solid surface: erm no comments plumber: nth to complain about till now, chop chop work v fast, pipe up e whole hse in less than 1 aftnn. i guess e main ting is coordination on Henry's part. Feels like hiccups can be avoided if he spent abit more time n effort, though i understand i cant b his only customer n he cant spend all his time on our home. but the delays are totallyl unwarranted for i feel. its like 3.5 mths already since start of reno. minus 1/2 mth for e permit application issues, its still 3 full mths! Henry, hmm, he can b truthful to tell u tings like 'u do a 2nd reno u will realise its bobian one' but as consumers i guess we dun really wan to hear tt. credits to him tt he's upfront when sth goes wrong n he's sincere bout it. he's a frank n approachable person la i muz say. but as alw, he has a tendency to overpromise. like HO date for example, 10/10/10 didnt happen. or he tells me tis ting will do sui sui dun worry, u know.. u tend to go ok! steady! n then get disappointed at e end of e day. i tink my main issue overall is e delays la. granted we din set a HO date rite fr e beginning cos we werent in a rush to move but he promised us 2.5mths is e max needed for our hse and its alr 3.5 mths now.... i feel we a little bit more ctrl n coordination, these delay issues wouldn't hav occured. i remem vividly tt our tilin was delayed 1 wk and when i asked him when will start tilin, he told me he's waitin for a better grp of tilers to be freed up to do our hse. of cos i was happy to hav it delay for 1 wk for tt.. but now it seems tt its nt e usual tiler xiao hei tiler henry usuallly use for tiling tt we were waiting for. its 2 unknown fellas who Henry tells me he has fired them off aft doin our hse. so u know, its a big disappointment for us. for some, employin a main contractor = main contractor settle everyth for dem so ur POC is only w e main contractor. i'd say Henry doesnt fall in tt category. Many times, i've conversed straight with electrician, carpenter, plumber. I'm totally fine with it. but i believe Henry could have done more to supervise e subcons to ensure no mistakes occur. ok, long story short. He has his pros he has his cons. But at e end of e day, we become disgruntled when the delays are on gg on gg on gg on gg.................. nevertheless, a smile a day keeps all troubles away. oh ya rite, i kept tinkin we din choose a proper dong tu date, hahahaha! den mayb tts y so sway
  4. nah we din talk to him. rite fr e beginning, we set out lookin for contractor/ID, we went e 'safe' way, we wanted some1 easy to talk to, had a list of customers who vouched for him and had a HDB license. shortlisted based on these criterias. so we din approach jaskel. =) turns out its nt tt 'safe' aft all our criteria. haha
  5. haha agreed! maybe if there's a nxt time, i muz use plastercine make a mould of a tap n put on e hole, make a banner n write big big with arrowhead: "PLACE TAP HERE PLS" yea man, thanks!
  6. oh din see tis, thanks! overall i tink e house comes out quite nice la. at least for me too! haha dun mean any disrespect to Henry or anyth, but cant help feelin y our reno cant b as smooth sailing as urs man.. im sure tt reno sure hv probs along e way but hit forehead on wall also gt limit. skull will break eventually.. gt tt nagging feelin tt he's takin too many jobs till he cant manage properly though its juz a wild wild wild guess. or mayb im juz sway thanks la anyway!
  7. oh sorry ah if i may add, dun mean any disrespect to jaskel. i'm sure everyone can see how well a job he's doing. =) at certain pts thru our reno we gt tink like how come we din get him to be our contractor.. oh well.. feedback to HDB huh.. maybe should la, but i tink their black marks are more for like not adhering to HDB rules, like reno timings, quality etc, less of management issues. hahahaha
  8. initiali, i felt need HDB license to make me feel 'safe'. i mean if anyth sway sway happens, i believe e point of contact if anyth to look for legal sense is to find e HDB licensed guy? any complains fr anyone to HDB bout e reno will also be directed to the licensed guy? cos any reno approval fr HDB muz b fr licensed? i'll feel safer if e licensed guy is e guy im workin with la.. but then totally rite, licensed doesnt mean good work, doesnt mean smooth journey. i can vouch for tt! haha..
  9. yea alr told him bout e SS, he's gg over to see tmr.. yea HO delay **** long alr la. quite bth alr though
  10. 不结不解不解不解不解!!! how is it possible???? kitchen table. Sink installed. Hole cut in wood top for the kitchen sink tap. Solid surface pple come, install SS top, cut a totally different hole for the tap thru e SS and also thru e wood?!? Initialli wanted tap to b in centre of sink, but aft discussions w Henry, decided to put tap at e side to ensure ease of installation and any changes in e future cos not much space left at the back of e sink. So a hole was cut at the side of the sink for the tap. Den today Solid surface pple come, they cut a hole thru e wood centred to my sink . i reali reali tink its like idiot proof la can. 1 hole there means the tap supposed to b there?! Dunno now how, change the whole SS top? **** scared they change will injure my beautiful industrial sink and my beautiful induction hob which they installed alr.. how how how! 不结不解不解不解不解!!! m i really really tt sway mei. all bad tings tt can happen can happen! I tink i can make a movie: lemony snicket's a series of unfortunate events: Simei version.
  11. haha.. okok thanks man.. show some pics of ur hse lei!
  12. haha ive been tellin myself e same ting too.. =) saw on ur signature u bought a woei-lee retractable clothes hangar.. gt photo n review n price to share? we're kinda lookin for 1 tt is cheap n good.. hehe
  13. rotating feature wall at study, e other side is MBR did rounded edges on e rotatin part with what the carpetners terms 毛毛虫 furry liners to cover up any clearance gaps betwen e holes, in case gt peepin tom in our own house peep in fr study room.. haha. and alumix came up to install my WIW yest.. but rejected 1x2-tier drawer set, 1xsingle drawer with the hole cubicles ting, and 1xboard i muz say their worksmanship quite bad, my std VERY low in accepting the stuff but still had to reject those piece as those were realllli realli reallllli v bad. crack wood, glue all over.. they still hav to rearrange a time to come up n do up e rest.. =) feels good to see tings gg.. but still a tad disappointed our HO din happen today. but at least tings are movin.. wifey more sian tt no HO though.. but hope can be done up quickli quickli! so tt i can post final photos!
  14. ok updates. HO didnt happen! last update fr henry is tt mon tue will do glass works. tue wed will do solid surface tops.. aniwae, carpentry is more or less done.. some peek shots.. Foyer, shoe cabinet with DIY-ed stool: Black and white kitchen, minus my glass works: Study: my living room feature wall & tv console: my original tv console was suppsoed to be half e height only, felt it look classier n more modern, but aft all e carpentry hiatus, dimensions were confirmed n conveyed over e phone, told carpenter to do me a standard ht console and he told me e doors would b quite big if did standard height. they tell me if its do from floor up, tis is e standard height of tv console. I asked him if it would look weird if its tis height n he told me it would look ok.. so i said ok.. i should hav double checked myself to make sure it was wad i envisioned.. so i ended up with tis big kinda bulky lookin ting.. was quite disappointed when i saw e final pdt and asked on e spot if can change to shorter.. but they told me bobian to change alr.. sigh.. but our parents all said it look ok la.. so ok then.. aft lookin n lookin it felt ok la. although @ a certain pt in time, e tot of juz payin for a redo tv console did x my mind.. oh well.. its mistake on my part to confirm such a dimension so ok la.. i shall live w it.. any one else feels it looks too bulky?
  15. HMM i also dunno e subcons names.. i know electrician ah liang only. i like him. love him la. i tink he's **** good.. haha.. n **** professional! yaa.. i tink as it went on, we got more n more particular.. hope we're nt overboard in our particular-ness.. haha.. but then yea.. its a big investment~! eek! i also wan an island!! but we didnt have space at all in e kitchen to do it, even knock down walls also gt a beam blockin e way.. so no island.. sadd la.. but solitaire dun like island anyway so oh welllllllllllllllllllllllll.. hmm tink some IDs charge more some dont for e 3x6 tiles.. ID dependent i guess
  16. mayb you can see if urs got uneven-ess n if e tiles are v close to ea other.. if close and uneveness nt much, den should b good n juz banned juz need to make sure his tiler make sui sui can liao. cos e 2nd tiler who came in explained tt if he do, he wouldnt put e tiles so close tgt, if nt sure will hav uneveness prob.. if would put dem wider apart.. den can make dem even.. so mayb banned can check w his tiler see how they do it.. =)
  17. QUOTE (Banned @ Oct 5 2010, 06:55 PM) hmm.. But my reno is starting tml.. not much time left.. And SBH dun have the tiles i wan in Hafary.. Btw neo. did your id say that laying 60x30 tiles more ex den 30x30? any way to confirm this? jus find it very weird.. marshmellow: hey bro, when is the tiles stock coming in? if it's just few days, maybe just wait for the tiles to come ba.... during my reno, one of the tiles also no stock but we were lucky becos the original 300 x 450 one got no stock so we got free upgrade to 300 x 600... keke btw, the price difference between big and smaller tiles is well documentated in renotalk... dun worry ya it's due to more time/effort/attention/skill is required for bigger tiles and bigger tiles are also heavier to carry/handle, hence the higher price in workmanship ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- oh i saw tt comment on ur blog for marsh so tot they did tilin oso.. haha.. paisei if i gave e wrong info if they din do tiling.. but i see their blog got toilet tilin ma! hahahaha =) but anyway it ink lots depends on tiler la.. go niam ur ID to make sure tiler do good job should b fine ? haha
  18. yep, hope quality n worksmanship come out is ok, and i have no problems w e rectifications work.. den everyth will b sui sui and everybd can huat! hmm, i dunno whether its i sway kena bad tilers or wad, maybe marshmellow can comment too? since we both hav Henry as e contractor, easier to compare. Mine e wall tiling was quite bad which even Henry agreed but he tells me its cos of tiler worksmanship no good la.. mayb marshmellow can comment if their wall tiles are v bad or v good? den can hav a clearer pic. =)
  19. hahaha.. ya.. for e 1st time we display traits tt are nt worthy of twins! come, all put ur hands tgt and pray w me tt dun rain tis morn so my carpentry can be finally delivereddddddddddddddddddddd
  20. woah, chill bro! haha, u more ji dong than me man.. well since it ended up tis way, i'll juz let e plumber do e installation, if anyth wrong, change change change everyth! hahaha. chill la bro! im **** +ve aint i? haha
  21. my contractor told me that its more expensive too. reasoning is that its harder for e tiler to lay the tiles properly since its bigger, requires more workmanship so hav to pay more for workmanship. I hav my doubts bout this. My tiles in my toilet in the end came out pretty bad which my contractor agreed in e end. So i believe after rectification, if nt all done properly and stil gt bad worksmanship(very uneven tiles and 'teeth' edges) i'll settle on an agreement with him to hav some sort of discount. doesnt make sense that i pay more for e workmanship but it still comes out bad rite? aniwae, for bigger tiles on walls. my experience with it thru e reno and rectification by another tiler who explained: bigger wall tiles if u place them v close tgt, meaning the gap is smaller between tiles, its harder to achieve a smooth intersection and will have more uneveness. The tiler can choose to make the gap bigger and try to smoothen it. So its a trade off btwen close tgt but comes w more uneveness and u can feel the sharp edges or gap bigger but smoother. tink u might wan to check w ur tiler on that? =)
  22. chill la. at least only TV no stock. if i get 80% of my hse for HO, im **** happy liao. so if u wan to feel better.. juz compare to ur frenly simei neighbour who's house is nt even completeddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd yet.. haha
  23. woah, ur contractor discounted u almost e full amt of $900 u paid extra for e big tiles?! tts like u're doin it free already! haha.. dun tink henry will discount all la.. hahaha
  24. nah, they'll replace what they tink should b replaced. Some not advisable to replace or replace alr will make it worse wont b replaced. Hoepfully those we can get some discount =) . Cos we paid more for e workmanship aft we chose bigger tiles for e toilets as Henry says bigger tiles need better workmanship cos its harder to make the tiling good quality, n aft cehckin, henry and e tiler(different fr original one) that checked concured that the tiler did quite a bad job at some parts. Since we paid more for e worksmanship and they agreed its tilers problem, then those tt cant be replaced we should be compensated in some way ba.. makes just sense?
