  1. hi Rossng that's exactly what I felt too - that ready made ones give nicer finishing. Is it true that if get ready made tv console and custom made feature wall, wires will not be concealed? Because I believe this is the whole purpose of a feature wall right? To conceal wires? Actually for custom made console and wall, how does the wire run from one to the other? Are these 2 things one piece? I also wonder if it will be difficult if need to do somethng to the wire connection if everything is behind feature wall?
  2. ha ha, this is true .. but also true is the fact that all the mattresses feel somewhat the same when I lie down, only some softer or firmer than another.
  3. really not sure the "name" except that it's maxcoil. assuming if it's really the maxcoil panatech, what kind of mattress is that? I think i like to believe forumers here than to go ask the saleslady at the shop!
  4. Hello everyone Can some kind souls help me - how and what to look out for mattress? I know a good mattress does not come cheap, but don't know the "inside" story. So was shopping for bed some days back, and was pleasantly surprised that a shop is offering bed frame + mattress for only $899! I asked what kind of mattress, and the saleslady said "spring pocket", and she added that "this one orthopaedic, some more anti-dustmite, anti-something else (i forgot). I thought pocket spring mattress sounds good, but the price tag just makes me suspicious. Later at another shop, a "kinder" salesman said "pocket" got so many type - individual pocket or side pocket? When I told him about the orthopeadic etc etc, he said all mattresses these days are orthopaedic, and these are all sales terms and names to entice "blur" people like me lah! Come home and try to read up - wow - so many types - latex, foam, spring, memory foam ... all confuse liao. Anyone can enlighten? btw, the brand is maxcoil. also did a web search on maxcoil http://www.maxcoil.com.sg/products.htm and realised that there are so many types under one brand alone. Is there a kind of ranking? or at least in terms of price, what would be the mostly costly, and what are mid range and at the bottom? thanks so much!
  5. Hi found this while reading up old threads. thought of bumping it up for "newbies" like myself who are on first reno journey! And for anyone with more to add to the list ..
  6. decided to do with ocbc, since we already have acc with them. Hope that minimises all hassles and give us loan quickly
  7. wow, you place outside the main door - not afraid that it may be stolen? the bench for putting on shoes? ready made kitchen cabinet and wardrobe a bit hard lah, but tv console possible, as long as the right length and colour scheme matches can already. Was at IFC this afternoon, and saw more consoles going for between 500+ to 1000+
  8. wah that's even lower than ocbc's 5.8%!
  9. Hi duan can i ask what is RHB's rate like? Am also looking for a bank to loan
  10. hmm ... interesting .. seems that most of you think that custom made cost more than ready-made? I also think should be that way. But at the shop, I saw nice consoles at around $1000, and that's the same price I am quoted for customised one. Unless my quote is too high? $1k for a 7" suspended tv console?
  11. Hi Bepgof correct me if I am wrong, but I think carpenter cannot make the kind of finishing we find in ready-made. Somehow it's smoother looking. Even the ABS trim still can see join lines, but some of these at the shops, totally like seamless. Anyway, also cannot ABS trim the whole console right? The cracking of suspended items is one of my concern too. Nowadays, so many things are suspended - from tv console, toilet cabinet (but this one ok else wet and base will rot), worktable, even kitchen cabinets and beds!
  12. Which is better for tv console? Ready made from furniture shop or custom made? Went to a few furniture shops today, and found that price of ready made is about the same as custom made one. However, I find the design and finishing of ready-made ones to be nicer, while custom-made ones are usually quite straight forward - suspended 3 or 4 comparments, laminate finishing. thinking hard now if I should go for those from the shops. Any comments? will there be a problem with "connecting" wires from feature wall to the console if one is not done by the carpenter?
  13. why is that so? I thought if you mount tap on solid surface, it will actually be higher than mounting on sink?
  14. Where is a better place to mount the kitchen sink mixer and soap dispenser? In terms of durability and maintenance? On the solid worktop or on the ss sink itself? For the first, sink shape is usually those "diamond" designer type, where there is no edge round the sink to mount anything. So got to mount on the solid top. Just wondering which is better before I place my order for sink thanks
  15. Hi 15May Looks like your reno will be going full steam from now. Can share what is the work schedule like? Also, how come must pay 60% upfront? Has work started? Is this the norm practice? Choosing colours must be both fun and headache, nonetheless, I am sure you will enjoy the whole process - just like the stage when you are preparing for wedding!
  16. contract only states that interest at 1% per month for late payment. have written the letter already, and sent out via registered mail this afternoon (must do it while still feeling hot, otherwise once i cool down i will start to think twice before acting), so now only can wait for their reply. I can imagine a black face agent on second appt .. but don't care lah! I am not ever going to meet her anymore from that day!
  17. ok, think I will write - like you said no harm trying. So sian, gone through this twice, both times kanna **** agent. Wonder where the good agents are? Wish me luck!
  18. Hi Bepgof we meet again here! want to check if I can bring up my case - do you think I have a case against **** agent? Remember my story? I applied BTO flat, have been informed by HDB (at the time agent was selling my flat) that probable completion is Mar, but not been asked to collect keys. Agent knows about this. When seller asked for early move in, agent did not advice us that since keys still not ready, we should ask buyer for extension, instead of allowing them to move in and incurring costs on ourselves to rent and find storage of our stuff. I mean, which owner would do that totally illogical thing? Thought of writing to agent company to ask for discount on comm and allow late payment due to: 1. agent lack of professional advice, resulting in us incurring extra which would have been agent comm $ 2. negative sale - agent witnessed us returning deposit money to HDB at first appt I feel that giving out appropriate advice, and advising the client to make decisions in favour of their position is part of the agent's duty, as a professional. Surely they are not just there to do paper work - this one I can easily handle myself! What do you think? My reasons valid or not? Getting more pissed with the agent, esp after meeting up with her again at first appt when she said some stupid things.
  19. but agent's contract stated clearly to pay comm at first appt, else interest chargeable every month thereafter. how?
  20. Hi 15May can I ask you something off-topic? Windows are our area is 3/4 height right? Haven't got my keys and can't tell from the outside. Can you tell me what is the height of the window (the part that opens)? Does that make sense? Basically, I am thinking if I should put grilles - just wondering if my kids stand infront of window, how much of their body will be "above" the open part of the window? thanks so much!
  21. Hi Possible do you know the address of tien seng? I searched the internet but they are in sungei kadut. Also went round Defu but area is quite big so unable to spot Tien Seng. Any idea? thanks
  22. my design? Still in my head only. i am in the process of finalising contractor, so after this can start posting my reno journey ... can't wait! but dropped the idea of getting loan for house, so will have to wait till second resale appt is complete
  23. Hi can anyone who have done cove light + ceiling fan share your experience? Will cast shadow or not? I hear differing view from different ID/ lighting shop, so not sure who is right now. we were thinking of having cove/L-box/ceiling fan for the best ambience, but if shadow is an issue then will have to forego the cove light. Unless when we use fan, we turn off cove light lor! thank you
  24. Wow your mbr looks stunning! wish I could have this size too! yup, full length mirror are so costly - am also thinking hard if I want to have that at my dining wall. but I guess it does the place look bigger? I love the floral design on the wall. How will that be achieved?
  25. Hi Ngundi So how? did you get to try at S&C today?
