As to your question on whether Esther is new, well, I'm not sure. But my friend's place was done up by her more than a year ago. My renovation was quite extensive. Took about a month to complete.

Kerene, Dont let this renovation hiccup get to you and dont get stressed. Like all things in life, learn to take it in your stride. Like one of the forummers said, if got hollow tiles, change tiles. So long your contractor is willing to rectify the defects for you, let them do it. Better get this over with and move on with the next (more important) stage of your life.

Hi Newly.Wed2011, Yes, I've used Esther before and she's good. She was recommended to me from a friend whose flat has been done by her too. We are both very satisfied with her work and ideas. To be frank, I've moved house 3 times and renovoated 3 times and this time, I had the most hassle-free renov experience. As for comments about her? Well, we particularly appreciated her design ideas and her frankness about what can/cannot be done (ie, she doesn't over-promise and under-deliver). Cannot do, she tells you straight in the face cannot do. Some people might find it offensive but we prefer an honest chap lor. As for workmanship, well, we were generally happy that the renov was completed on time and were particularly satisfied with the tiling work, carpentry works and ceiling works.

Not sure if you want to consider Ideal Homes. Have just completed my home renovation with them and am very impressed with the quality and especially with the service of one of their designers, Esther Chay.

I've always been very skeptical of contractors. Heard numerous stories of friends who were lured in with low quotations and eventually having to pay through their noses because alot of things are not included in the budget. However, I had a surprisingly pleasant experience working with this lady ID, by the name of Ester Chay from Ideal House. I'm was very happy with the quality of their renovation and especially with Ester's service. As I had a very tight budget, she has been honest in her quotes and even in advising me what should and shouldn't be done, where best to cut cost and where I shouldn't be stingy. I would strongly recommend her to anyone!
