  1. Hi Jinnous, thanks for your photographs. From your photograph that shows the top most 2 hinges, those 2 hinges are obviously coming loose & not properly held in place with screws : Have those screws for these 2 hinges been replaced before? I could see from your photograph that 3 out of 4 screws for each of these top most hinges are newer.
  2. Hi I found out for you that the main doors, including door frames of HDB flats are to be fire rated. In our case, we have a very old labels from both SISIR (now privatised & known as TUV-SUD) & the fire rated door supplier, Kim Lian Seng pasted at the side of our door next to door hinges as shown below, stating that there's a half hour (0.5 hour) fire rating for our main door: The contractors who were involved in the renovation of our flat said that when your main door "dropped" down to touch the floor, they assumed that there are 2 possibilities that caused "movement": - hinges are faulty (if this is the case, you need to get door repair guys to replace hinges) - door frames are not installed properly to the adjoining concrete (which is unlikely)
  3. Hi, it sounds pretty complicated in your description - no photographs to look at with just description... To clarify what you are saying, does that mean that there are 2 issues now? Namely, your door grilles to the corridor which u would want to realign becox it doesn't allow u entry into your flat by just opening one panel & your main door which is a HDB fire rated door that dropped down on the floor becox the metal door frame couldn't support its weight?? I would suggest that you call up HDB technical officer for your flat to see if he could conduct an inspection for your main door problem. Based on my understanding as a home owner, all flats in relatively new estates come with a fire-rated metal door frame & doors. The contractor cannot simply hack off the door frame & attach the door to the concrete. There has to be a door frame, you can't simply attach the door to the concrete without a door frame. It doesn't work that way. And hacking off door frames would damage your tiles... I knew all about this because our flat had demolishing works done while we are still staying in the flat. The HDB technical officer for your block would be able to advise if the metal frame belongs to HDB or it was replaced by your owner. He will have records of their renovation & what's done in your flat's HDB case files. Please get a professional to check if it's your door hinges that are spoilt and replace them before doing anything drastic - if you know of any door contractors who had previously replaced any of your other doors, you could get them to step in out of good will to take a look becox they normally don't entertain repairs unless doors are installed by them. I would also suggest that you consult your HDB technician for your block & get him to inspect your door frame - I found it odd how come your door frame couldn't support the main door! The ones which are originally installed by HDB during construction of flats are supposedly sturdy. I even get bruises when I accidentally knock against our metal door frame (main door). As for your metal grille gate issue, please contact Roger from Metalworld Pte Ltd - they have to assess to see if alterations could be done. If it couldn't be altered, they would let you know after they make the site visit. Please note that they do not deal with repairs (unless the gates & grilles are installed by them). However, they do take up alterations even when the gate & grilles aren't done by them. Hope this helps!
  4. Hi cozy dreams, did your ID show u the colour scheme for your house before renovation? Or did u agree to the colour scheme in the first place? Do u have a photo of how your altar looks like? It might not be as bad as u think if it's just accents of black on white. Must see photo then can advise further. And what type of deity r u going to place on your altar? If it's 神, not advisable.
  5. Hi folks, I am a new collector of Maneki-neko which is commonly known as Fortune Cats or 招财猫. If you are interested in reading up more about my fortune cats, please visit the following links in my blog: Maneki-neko 招き猫 (Part I) : Peony & Koban Maneki-neko 招き猫 (Part II) : Sakura (Please note that I am not trading or selling fortune cats.)
  6. I acquired another beautiful she-cat & named her Sakura. Isn't she cutez looking too? But I am saving her for our new home in the near future as it's really dusty at our current place. (Please take note that I am not trading/ selling in fortune cats.) If you are interested in reading more about her, please visit the following link in my blog: http://barbettey.blogspot.sg/2013/09/maneki-neko-part-ii-sakura-twos-company.html
  7. Hi folks, Lately, I went on a fortune cat spree as they are too cute to resist not bringing them home. It also took me quite a while to figure out where to place these fortune cats as I was told by the sellers that I should be placing them at wealth positions in our home. Afterall, they are wealth-related products & auspicious in supposedly promoting wealth. However, our wealth spot is such that it is impossible for us to place any figurines as they would have served as an obstruction to anybody walking within that vicinity. Hence, placing it at our wealth position is out of the question. Initially, I place it on shelving directly behind my headboard. However, something just didn't "click" when these darlings were put up at that location. The thought of 2 huge cats seated at the headboard made me feel uncomfortable. My idea is such that the bedroom is an abode of tranquillity & serenity. The fact that we had to still think about wealth while sleeping seems forboding. It's as if we still need to worry about money ($) when we sleep. And there's also an ancient saying in Chinese "梦中得宝" i.e. getting rich in one's dreams, which meant that one gets rich in his dreams & wakes up becoming the opposite. That seems such a bad omen! As such, I have decided to place them right on top of my shoe console since the shoes are hidden with doors inside the cabinet. And I am proud to present a candid photo of this couple (Peony & Koban) in my home ... aren't they cute looking? Kawaii! (Please note that I am not trading/ selling fortune cats.) If you would like to read more about them, please feel free to visit the link below in my blog: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7428/10035111825_1ac14d895c_z.jpg Please feel free to debate on appropriate places to display such fortune cats. I know for sure displaying fortune cats are extremely popular with shop owners & restaurants as they are harbingers of good luck & an abundance of wealth.

  10. Hi folks, I have finally settled down to having my full length curtains (for our TV room) customised by a small shop located in a heartland region (Tampines Street 43). Although I am no expert in curtains, but the workmanship & quality of fabric seems to have exceeded my expectations even though I am a very fussy customer. You could size up the extent of my fussiness by just reading through the other renovation related topics in my blog. And given our fengshui requirements, we opted for gold curtains which would have cost us a bomb should we purchased them elsewhere. I would like to share a few photographs in this thread: If you are keen in reading up more details about our gold tone curtains with an embossed fabric texture, please feel free to visit my blogging entry on this topic at the following link : http://barbettey.blogspot.sg/2013/09/my-newly-customised-curtains-from-hong.html Cheerios!

  12. Hi please advise what do u require his number for. If it's for price comparison, ah cheong's quotation wouldn't be the cheapest u could obtain on renotalk forum. I seek your kind understanding that his work schedule is extremely packed. As such, he has no time to hand out quotations for the purpose of comparing prices. Should u still be interested in touching base with him, kindly pm me directly. Thank you.

  18. I bought it from Chinatown. There were red tassels attached to it but we removed them. I think the brass types r still found at shops in Chinatown. But strange thing is that some of these baguas came in round shape instead of the typical bagua shape. I also saw those brass types with fierce looking faces of a lion (or is it tiger??) biting a sword. Any idea if that's a bagua too? And for what purpose?
  19. Tx for enlightening me. the bagua I used in the past is the brass type without any mirror.
  20. Hi une Thanks for emailing me at my personal email address. I have forwarded u a few contacts. Please check your mail box. Best wishes!
  21. Hmmmm from my understanding, baguas r used for warding off evil spirits. Not used as a fengshui cure.
  22. Hi thanks for pm-ing me. Please check your mailbox for ah cheong's contact number. Best wishes!
