  1. Since u're getting lights... for wall lights, I'd suggest to get one that does not have a base, like a hollow cylinder. Reason? Wall lights are usually high and not too accessible. Let it be hollow and bugs won't go there for their burial.
  2. Heyo thanks! Actually there's nothing much in there, I just like it spacious. hehe. Updates 19 June 2011 Just some updates.. no pictures yet. TV Console Installed my TV console already. Kind of regretted the size, think it's too big! Maybe a 40cm depth would have been nicer, now it's 50cm. Sorry no pics yet, maybe next week with the other new junk. hehe. Dining Table+Chairs KODA finally opened it's doors on weekends, but only their old display sets were available. i.e. furniture used in exhibitions and shows, transported here and there. I wanted a thick solid wood dining table, but wife didn't like the grooves it had on the surface. There was a piece of black glass on the center, and she said food will get stuck in there and cannot clean. Agreed on that.. so bye thick heavy solid table. lol. Actually there was another solid one with a smooth top, but that one was slightly damaged with a large crack. This was the original one I was beoing but rejected.. keke. So solid that I'd feel safe jumping on it (okok maybe not jump, but stand) Keen on this too.. but it was damaged and slightly too big for my dining area. 2m x 1m big, leaving only 50cm sitting space on each side. Actually... the bench I bought looks like the one on the lower left corner. In the end, chose a thinner but classier table with round edges and round legs. BUT... some people came earlier and bought some of the chairs of the set, and they only had 3 chairs left to complement that table. They had other designs but I didn't like them. So.... just got the 3 chairs and will source for a bench or other chairs to mix and match. I did buy a bench though, solid oak, different colour from dining table. Not sure where I'll use it yet, can put at dining area first or balcony or even at entrance for me to wear my shoes. Also bought a small side table just to chalk up the bill to get free delivery. lol. Well.. I'll take pics next week after delivery and we'll see! Dustbins Went to King and King Wong @ NEX, quite a collection of household items for those who like to decorate your house like a country cottage. I bought a large classified dustbin (2-tiered). Intend to use the top as normal rubbish bin and the bottom as additional storage.
  3. Things looking good bro! I have the same Godmorgan mirrors from IKEA too, big as **** and brightens up the bathroom very well. How much was your laundry system? I'm looking for one, may do pulley instead also, coz the length is very short and not suitable to remove the bamboo poles.
  4. Heyo. Try to get your electrician to settle these details. An experienced one will be able to determine the route to minimize problems. Even for 90 degree turns (inevitable) if there is ample space, the turn can be made round a larger radius. Didn't go to KODA on a weekday, got work leh. Thanks! Probably coffee table and maybe side table. Will get them along the way as we need them. yupyup!
  5. Probably won't get this... but it's a cute match to my FB pillows. lol
  6. oops forgot to answer the part on the speed, it is 50mbps upload and 50mbps download. It's a magnet, not sticker. So cannot anyhow put outside, ppl can just take it away. It went pretty well! The electrician must make sure the trunking makes minimal bends, and not at any sharp angles. The opennet guys pulled the cables over within a minute. My line will be activated in 2 weeks, so we'll see the speed from there.
  7. Most welcome! Each family has different needs, saw many done up nicely with storage all over the place too. For me, we just want to avoid storing things. Yeah, but can't find the doorbell in sg tho. Had to buy overseas. Fibre $29 @ M1. It was the promo at PC Show, just ended! Giving u inspiration ah? hahaha... Some other weird stuff I put in before to test... Super Mario Tune "who's that? are u a sex criminal?!?!" -- howard's mum from Big Bang Theory Generally voices are quite difficult to hear, esp when I'm in my room behind doors at level 2. Have to make sure its LOUD enough.
  8. Imagine if we had it as a voice screaming "GO AWAY!!" instead. lol. Or just an eerie scream.
  9. Depends on your bathroom. Imagine the existing tiles +a few cm after overlaying the tiles, will it block the current door?
  10. Minor updates~~ Storeroom Racks Just installed. Custom sizing to fit an L-shape into the room. Please ignore the junk. Tiles placed below, spare paint also. Living Room Sofa lilcupcake dropped by today with hubby and cousin to check out the workmanship and stuff, while I was still reassembling the sofa. All done! Different angle. TV console not in yet, maybe delayed. Gonna call carpenter again. btw, just signed up for fibre broadband also. $29 per month, plus $2 for rental of residential gateway. =D
  11. Thanks! We have more funky ideas... haha.. will see how it fits into the rooms when the furniture is all in. We don't have a huge load of things, so nothing much to unpack! Yeah the cleaning takes up alot of time... hmmm...!!! Its just a doorbell that can play mp3, got it from Amazon. Not cheap tho!
  12. Actually... hard to make money... all my games are free online casual multi-player flash games, optional to pay for add-ons. @.@ Only a tiny percentage of ppl will pay $$$. heh
  13. Thanks! I'm a game developer and she used to work in gaming events, will have more geeky stuff in the house lor. haha
  14. Don't worry too much about it bro. Remember that you should try to avoid placing stuff under your fan coil also. If it ever leaks, your computers, TV and what not will kena from the fancoil above if u place there, right? In any case, 25 deg C is barely cool. If your fancoil is not directed to where u are, can just set to lower temp?
  15. Realized that I missed out some misc pictures. Fridge My fridge, very the yandao one. But I didn't do any base. hmmm... i-WashingMachine The crazy things I stick on my appliances. Wardrobe Full View Animation of the individual sections. I get the smallest one on the left, followed by TV/common section and wife's territory The Work Begins... Our selection of cleaning stuff before they go back into the cabinets. (Some) Pending Stuff! Sofa Sofa assembled! But... the installers said cannot do the L shape in the position I wanted coz don't have a screw hole. doh... I will be drilling the hole myself next week and reassembling the sofa. TV Console Carpenter should deliver it this weekend. Just a simple design, white with glass top. Curtains/Blinds Haven't sourced yet. Anyone with lobang? Need for 3 bedrooms and balcony. Earlier had someone quote $5psf for roller blinds, +$10 per top bar. Dining Set Will check out KODA when they open. As described in earlier post, looking for solid dark walnut colour, with round edges, must not have any sharp edges. Proven time and again that I'm a magnet to sharp edges.. lol Coffee Table Will be looking for white to match TV console. Clothes Drying Rack I don't have any hooks on my ceiling yet. Can just buy from DIY shop and cut bamboo poles to the length I need? Study Table Currently eyeing some from V.Hive @ Funan. But wife doesn't really like V.Hive. Anyone with experience with their tables? Internet Plan This weekend is PC Show. Vacuum Cleaner Need something to suck dirt where my broom and brushes can't reach!! No idea what to look for yet though. Shoe Rack/Cabinet+Chair Will place at the entrance (inside). Likely to be dark walnut as well. Realized that rain does reach my porch and dirty it. Won't want my shoes outside then.... Doorbell Already have it... not installed yet. It plays Darth Vader's tune... mwahahhaha
  16. 7USD here! http://www.perpetualkid.com/slide-to-unlock-magnet.aspx Only problem is.. they don't ship to SG. They tend to use big boxes for such magnets since they can't be folded, so think twice if u wanna use something like vpost, the shipping can cost many times more than the product if ill-planned. Yeah true. It's weird, there isn't anything that states that there must be a wire to that location. In any case, its hard to imagine why the next owner won't want it unless there's wear and tear of some sort. Thanks! I shifted 2 toilet door locations, went thru many discussions with my contractor before deciding on the final layout. But I like the outcome, much better than before!
  17. Hey thanks for the comments. Yes, overall, it is narrower, and the rooms a little smaller. Most EMs have a room (maid room?) in the first level too. I had a HDB officer come to check for leaks before, no comments from him on all the coverups I've done, except that covering up the piping is risky, need to dismantle if there's any problem with the pipes. Some furniture already in, doing amendments here and there, so no pics on those yet Hey thanks! I went down to have a look on Saturday. Apparently they are usually not open on weekends, but I saw a guy going in and asked him to let me in to have a look. Nice collection that suits what I'm looking for! Will be back again as they are still building up their showroom as they plan to go into retail. Hi. Well its hard to define how much the actual reno bill is as some people buy furniture off the shelf and have no custom carpentry cost. For me, yes 49k if it includes my kitchen/wardrobe/cabinet/tvconsole.
  18. Hi Yes, the 39k includes all hacking, homogeneous floor tiles, replacement of all doors and windows, painting, etc. Mine is 26 years old, everything went also. But remember that it does not include purchase of lights, sanitary fittings, sink, hood, hob, etc. I only have 1 compressor, but don't think there's any issue if I wanted 2 compressors, 1 along corridor level 2, another 1 at the balcony. Will send u PM in a while
  19. Hi Actual reno bill is 39k. Carpentry separate, about 10k for kitchen, wardrobe, toilet cabinet, tv console. Actually most mansionettes are that old. Many things to consider, like kids, old folks, pregnant wives, etc.
  20. Relax bro, mistakes here and there should be ok so long as they can be fixed. It's all part of the reno process. You're dealing with many people and miscomm can happen along any part of the line. Can imagine your bbq efforts there. ha.. but be careful of the soot, may darken your exterior walls.
  21. Looking for a dining set of dark walnut colour, and rounded edges - clumsy couple la. So far, only found one but it was $2.4k and doesn't feel very solid. Anyone with recommendations?? Same thing for bedside table/cabi.. just want rounded edge. keke.
  22. I'm a geek, welcome to the Facebook room Wanted to buy sofa from IKEA, but went there 3 times, every time no stock. Need to call on the day itself to confirm before going down, they don't allow ordering if there is no stock. doh. But I've already settled full payment with my contractor. All problems we told him were resolved, kinda! The smelly toilet issue was due to a mistake by the tiler. Somehow one of the drainage holes was connected to the sewage pipe, and all the heavenly smell came in whenever my neighbors did their business. Eventually, the tiler came and tiled up the drainage hole. Luckily it was a rather dry area and I still have my shower drainage. This weekend will be installing my TV console (from my carpenter, simple white design) and storeroom rack 125cm x 125cm L shape.
  23. Good to see the updates!! Hope they can still change the door for you, not sure if the holes are at the same places for the long handlebar or else they may need to replace the door altogether. Remember to check all your purchased items bro. For me, they delivered wrong lights, wrong hob, wrong hood. Each time I thought no need to check la... looks correct... but end up still deliver wrong. lol
  24. Alamak. I might as well post here. Basically many sliding windows and grilles are prone to this. Even when the windows and grilles are locked, there is a little bit of possible movement. Exert a little bit of strength in the right direction, and the windows and grilles can be opened in less than 5 seconds for someone used to doing it. I saw it done on my new windows and grilles. %$*#%$^% so much for protection against theft. Some people are aware of this, and slot wood pieces in the gaps to prevent the windows from moving. Cheap and possible solution but ugly and not a permanent one. Anyway, there are some guys going around doing this demo... and offer to install locks against this glaring security flaw. Not sure if anyone encountered them before. So for those with EMs... almost certain that it is a corridor unit and must check ALL the windows facing the corridor.
  25. Heyo bro, Glad to see the updates! Things are shaping up well! Sent u pm about window and grille security, scared the sh*t out of me when I could just push the corridor windows and grilles open if I knew the correct angles. @.@
