  1. Nice buys! I thought I saw the XL lamp cubes somewhere in RT just days ago. Very special The bean table when placed upside down, can double as a seat right?
  2. Electrical Works (DIY) My future FIL is helping us on the electrical portion. we're not going to do rewiring for the whole house though; juz relocation/addition of electrical points with existing wires. And change all the light switches and sockets of course. But even so, it turned out we encountered alot of constraint along the way.. ## Legrand Malia series - We chose white and got it from Choo Chiang at wholesale prices. Finally fulfilled my long-awaited wish of using big-gang switches! ## We have a total of x3 dimmer switches - living hall, dining & MBR. Initially wanted the dimmer in hall for the L-Box lights, but it is so difficult to find dimmable bulbs that are compatible with existing lamp holders.. Only way is to change all the lamp-holders which translates to additional costs.. In the end, I gave up and had the dimmer linked to another ceiling light (that uses halogen bulbs) instead. ## While installing the switches, we ran short of a single-gang light switch and hastily bought one at nearby hardware shop. But we couldn't find Legrand brand and got MK instead. It looks so different from the rest! ## For the kitchen light socket however, we cannot change to the new switches as the wires inside the box are too many.. and not sufficient space for the Legrand switches to be installed onto it. We just have to settle for the old switches... Super Sad!!
  3. Hmm.. the electrical pt and part of the wire of extension cord will be visible, while rest of it to be concealed by placing a furniture in-btw the electrical wall socket and TV-console
  4. Electrical point at that wall already done.. too late But the socket was located juz abt 30cm above the floor. Most probably we going to run an extension cord from that point to our tv-console, and then hide all the plugs behind the console. Lastly place another small piece of furniture to block the wire of that extension cord.
  5. haha.. I crashed into glass panels before too when I was very young. yea.. Safety is more impt
  6. I also model cars too! But mine is mainly tomica series - cheap cheap ones
  7. Impressive concepts u got there !! But i think cleaning will be a headache if all the book shelves do not have glass panels to keep out the dust?
  8. yea.. I agree with jaskel. Most ppl would use that as a study room instead of a bedroom. Personally I do not like this concept as that room would eventually becomes cluttered with stuffs after moving in.. and it won't be eye-appeasing to guests in the living room then. Juz my 2c worth And all the best to your reno. journey! ur ID's 3D drawing looks amazingly real btw.
  9. Wah.. u got a great bargain! yalor.. this type of design always tagged as "designer items" and cost so much more..
  10. u can buy those transparent plastic film from hardware shops as protection. They sell it by per metre length. But need to cut the film yourself and prices not cheap.. (the thicker it is, the higher it costs) My parents' place uses that, and I intend to get it too to protect my high-gloss furniture.
  11. We were looking for a coffee-table of this design! Like the rounded edges.. it gives a modern retro feel. Came across similar ones a couple of times.. but price way off budget. How much did u get it for? =)
  12. Wah.. So Bright! I personally prefer the red-white though. More comfortable on the eyes..
  13. Actually most of the furniture sold in SG, are made in China anyway. Haha.. I'm sure u saved ALOT! * envy
  14. Thanks Bunnymummy & Phintastic! I didn't manage to find in on IKEA website.. but at least now I know where to get it
  15. @ Bluesummerayz & west : Thanks! @ Kobelala : Heh, I also don't have TV feature-wall. Now having heachache how to hide so many wires.. LOL
  16. wow... your place very nicely done-up.. The MBR has the 'hotel feel'..
  17. Chandelier woes.. Around 3 wks before the scheduled delivery of our chandelier, Chan Huat staff informed me that the chandelier which we chose.. won't be available as there was some quality issue and the whole batch of lamps are rejected by Factory. Asked us to come down and choose another model.. This is so disappointing and furstrating!! Despite Chan Huat is a fairly large store, we couldn't find any other models which we like and yet within our budget. (yes.. we're very picky when it comes to choosing the chandelier design..) And so we requested for a full refund. And of course, we all know shops are like that. They are quick in chasing for payment but when something goes wrong.. its very hard to make them cough back the money. The salesperson, though sounded apologetic everytime I called her to chase for my refund, always gave some reasons/excuses to drag the problem - either boss uncontactable or went abroad for business trip.. This dragged on for nearly 2wks before the salesperson finally got back to me that her boss managed to find ONE working lamp in China Factory and shipped it back for us. Wow.. The ONE and ONLY working lamp. It really worries us on its reliability since they earlier claimed the whole batch of lamps are rejected.. We decided to take our chance. Partly I'm also tired of 'pestering' them and just want to close and move on. Hah.
  18. Welcome to RT! and congrats on getting your new home. Just a suggestion.. think you could make ur thumbnails bigger so that we all can view the details better?
  19. cottage country style seems to be up and coming in Singapore. my fren opened a shop selling this genre of products. Quite a wide range of collection. Her shop is @ Tanjong Pagar Mrt stn Xchange
  20. I juz went BHG at Bugis yesterday. Yep.. Large collection over there. Can also consider going to Muji store in Marina Sq, if their style suits you. The prices are abit steep though.
  21. The piping looks neat to me. So far no leakage yet. Nothing I can find fault with
  22. DIY works - Sundays on week 4~6 As my future-FIL is only available to help us out on Sundays, most of the major tasks (electrical, painting works) had to wait till then. ## Wrapping up the aircons ## Preparing for painting - taping newspapers to the skirting before putting a plastic sheet over the floor. ## Spent over an hour scrapping off the old, thick coat of paint from the tv-cable pipe.. so that it would look nicer after we re-paint it. ## The original wooden door was damaged due to water. My dad gotten us a piece of laminated wood cut out to the exact size of the old door. It fits so well that we don't even need to nail it or install door hinges! ## Feeling a sense of achievement scrapping & peeling off the old paint from the bath-tub.
  23. Contractor Report Card! Our contractor handed over the keys to us after 4wks of work. Overall, I would say the reno progress is pretty smooth. Here's the Report Card! Contractor's responsiveness : 10/10 Contractor's willingness to give freebies/ FOC services : 8/10 Tiling : 7/10 (a few tiles abit higher than the rest. But again, I'm doing overlay and the old tiles might been slightly uneven in first place) Plastering : 5/10 (saw lines on walls, ceilings which did not go away after painting..) Piping : 10/10 Carpentry : 8/10 (joint lines not that visible, pretty good workmanship) Solid surface table-top : 6/10 (there were 2 patches that are of lighter color tone..) Laminate Flooring (Vista) : 6/10 (some of the lines between pranks are quite obvious)
