  1. Infrared can go travel over bends and sometimes even thru walls, but RF signals only travel straight without blockage.
  2. You need a quotation to have the bank's reno loan approval. How did you get a quotation without engaging the ID? I supposed Mr K did not want to take your project because of his time constraint lor; I understand now alot of projects rushing for deadline before CNY. Somemore you wanted him to meet outside, you are busy, etc, so he could have decided not to take lor, gotta consider his other projects on hand also mah. Why not you move on and find other ID instead? Don't insist on the ID who does not want to take your project; end up even more problems.
  3. For the people loitering, sad to say, unless there is a crime committed, the police will not do much - just say will 'try' to frequent patrols but whether really got patrol also cannot enforce. That's how our civil service works; there is no justifications for action unless something happens. Or perhaps unless it happens to someone important lah, hehe...
  4. Well for export set, or parallel imports or 'water goods', every purchase is a 50/50 risk lor, cannot compare. Even if its like out of 50 sets only 1 spoilt, how do you know you are not the one?? For me, I would buy it if its not a necessity; ie if it really spoils then bo pian, just do without it lor. But won't risk such things with essential appliances like washer/dryer/fridge, etc. Home theatre still ok... Just make sure the package is not tampered with, some parts replaced or refurbished set. On the other hand, even buy from HN, courts, etc those big big stores with warranty, also got risk. Never spoil never mind, but spoil already, this one not covered that one not covered, end up still got to pay for repair. Like my dad always tease the salesman, is it warranty until spoil? Once spoilt then no more warranty already?
  5. Hey sorry guys I fell sick yesterday, lying on the bed whole day. Now managed to have strength to get up, so come in here post abit...hehe... Did you guys managed to meet up? I will see you all next weekend ok...
  6. Think you already should be quite clear that its not allowed right? Why still want to try your luck and ask here??
  7. No they cannot cheat your money. Technically speaking, the deal had bust when the OTP was not submitted to HDB on time. They will have to compensate you 2 x deposit amount if it was their fault for failing to submit on time. You have every right not the sign the new OTP with new date, and demand for your money back. However, if you really like the flat, then you will have no choice but to sign the new OTP right? So that's where they can lead you by the nose lor.
  8. Woah, good think tomorrow will have quite a few people huh?? Shall we arrange for a time to meet, say 3pm at sheng siong or at koufu or something? GTeton, just come along for a drink and introduce yourself lor; you can go see some of the neighbours' reno mah. Most of you staying at Blk 91, I am one of the odd one...hehe... Erm, concealing wires is against HDB's regulations hor... Your contractor is probably trying to play safe and not tamper with the original switchpoint provided by HDB; but it would be very ugly lor. Imagine the pinhead and wire on the switchpoint, then the wire suddenly disappear into the wall. Lastly, is there any beam at the top where you want the switchpoint to be? If so then maybe cannot hack lor, so cannot put there. But if there is no beam, then I think its just an excuse for him to be lazy lah; it very tedious to hack a line to conceal the wire, somemore so high up.
  9. Huh you all mean 5-rm flat the rates for utilities are more ex?? Or because 5-rm flat consume more energy?? BTW anyone will be at Tanglin halt on Sat or Sun?? Thinking of meeting up again leh...got to know two more owners, one is my new colleague (small world), another one is a forummer here, but think she doesn't post alot in this thread. Come come and make them feel welcome in our 88 TANGLIN estate!!
  10. Just to let you in on some tricks by all these chao agents: HDB's OTP has a standard validity for submission (think 14 days or 21 days, can't remember). The agent must either submit the documents personally to HDB's dropbox, or apply thru ResaleNet. If no submission is done within that period, the OTP becomes null and void. If submit personally, then they cannot bluff and must submit before the deadline. However, if the agent apply thru ResaleNet, then they can play with the dates because HDB won't know when the OTP was signed; the original OTP would be submitted only during 1st appointment. In this case, the chao agent would ask to meet you earlier that day, then give you a c*ck & bull story that his admin lost the original OTP and get you to sign another copy with a new date. By which time you will probably sign it, because you already waited so long, tired of looking for flats liao plus you really want that flat mah, so you got no choice. The common reason why the chao agent did not submit the OTP is because of the sellers' situation; they might need to go search for their new flat, pending loan approval for their new flat, etc so the chao agent is holding on. As for your recourse, you can demand for 2 x deposit amount paid, and also *maybe* can sue for damages in delay. But the latter is more difficult, because you first have to provide a tangible amount for your 'loss' (eg opportunity loss, buy another flat more ex, bank loan cancellation charges, etc), also I think the OTP got state that the liability is only 2x deposit. BTW have you signed any commission agreement with the chao agent? If so, then quickly take it out to check; most agencies do state that in case that the transaction is cancelled, then you got to pay half of the deposit to them as commission.
  11. Huh really ah? I only use once every week, only sometimes use twice per week. No other special appliances, normal-sized fridge and small wine chiller. How come so much difference... Do you switch on your aircon often? For wifey and me quite pampered, everytime I am in a room, (eg study/bedroom) i will switch on. But that's usually at nite leh, like after 7pm+. Sleeping time sure switch on all the way. And for my tenant, she is really ok one, she goes out early and comes back quite late. Think she even more energy-saving than us!! I suspect she doesn't even switch on the aircon at nite, cuz sometimes can hear the wind inside her room. Erm, where am I supposed to read ah?? Hehe...
  12. My bills had been making me very stressed; 1st bill $50+, 2nd bill is $300+ and now 3rd bill is $200+. Wifey also becoming very paranoid - go around the flat to switch off appliances and even try to unplug the tv and home theatre. She would have flicked the main switch if I had not reminded her about the food in the fridge... Haiz... But did notice the 3rd bill says 'estimate' also; hmmz, so exactly how long more to see the actual consumption ah??
  13. Wow the answer to your question is very long and technical, plus alot more info is required than what you had said. Suggest you go read up on HDB website first and if anything dun understand then post here lor... For starters you can read this: http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10203p.nsf/WP...ew?OpenDocument Also rem to go thru the procedures, policies, etc on the left column.
  14. On the webpage: http://img257.imageshack.us/my.php?image=floorplannercu1.jpg 1. Scroll down to the end and you will see various ways to link the pic. 2. Copy the address from the column that says "Direct" 3. Come back to this forum, use the "Insert Image" button (the one with a tree graphic besides the envelope) and paste the address in the pop-up window. Click "Ok". There you are!
  15. Huh your grilles are on the aircon ledge windows already?? Then how you expect the aircon man to work man?? They have to climb out for installation one leh... Please dun ask the man to climb out from the kitchen window; your flat is also quite high leh...
  16. This is as true as those fuel-savers for automotives, which claimed to have IMMEDIATE EFFECT, improve petrol consumption, increase torque and reduce engine wear. They also have 60-days money back guarantee, but only those who had tried will know how 'easy' it is to really get your money back. Basic common sense tells us, if it works, why aren't the carmakers pre-fitting them in their rides and increase their sales? Same for these power savers lor; if it really works, why aren't the electrical appliances pre-fitted with them??
  17. Wow, didn't know so many people also have this problem - I used to file my bills for an unlimited period of time until one day I thought to myself, "whatever for??" By that time I am looking at a few cartons of bills, dated as far back as 2001! Then one day I came across my accountant who gave me the most wonderful and 'why-didnt-i-think-of-it-earlier' idea - scan them! Yes my accountant literally scans each bill, invoices, receipts, etc, keep them in the PC and keeps the hard copies for no more than two months. One file is only 100kb+, doesn't take up your harddisk space at all...
  18. I dun remember that the parents have to present at the 1st appt, but I may be wrong. Why not just write in to HDB and ask for a written confirmation? Remember do not ask over the phone; you ask 3 times will get 3 different answers... And if its true and your parents need to sign some documents, then further check if your father can do a power of attorney for someone to act on his behalf. All these info can be gotten from HDB...
  19. Read the letter of offer carefully; is it an irrevocable offer? If so and they suddenly reject your loan application at last min, you might have a legal case. But I am afraid the bank is smarter than that; the letter of offer would always be subjected to hundreds of clauses to be changed at the leisure of the bank. But fret not, if you and your husband's credit status is ok, then there is no reason why the bank would refuse you a loan; they also want to earn interest mah. Just keep your fingers crossed for now...
  20. You still need to wait quite a fair bit before the water becomes warm, although not as long as storage heater. However, gas heaters work on water pressure; ie when you turn on the tap then it switches on, unlike storage heater you can switch on and wait for it to be hot. Thus if you are like me cannot bear cold water in the morning, then you will have to leave the tap running until it becomes hot then start to bath. So got to compare overall; storage heater wait for it to warm is waste electricity, but gas heater wait for it to warm is waste gas and water at the same time. Erm you better check you heater if you can smell the gas; mine does not smell of gas. But have to admit the 'pop' sound when it switches on is quite irritating and scary...
  21. Condoms given out to guests at wedding dinner. How can? STOMPer Chia said her daughter returned from a wedding dinner and left a small box on the table. "My guess was either it's chocolate or keychain, as these are popular wedding gifts for guests. To my astonishment, I found 2 condoms in it!" she said. In an email this morning (23 Nov), the STOMPer said the couple had spent some money to print their own boxes as it has their picture and names on it. "On the back of the box, it says B.L.I.S.S. which stands for Beautiful Life Is Safe Sex. I found it weird to have such wordings on a wedding gift, but understood what it means when I opened it," she said. "I do not, and cannot understand why people would want to give such things as wedding gifts," she said. "When I asked my daughter, she said the box is on the table and everyone has one." The STOMPer is concerned about who the table gifts may end up with. "What if children got it? There must be children attending weddings...It's so embarrassing. Parents will have a hard time trying to explain to them what it is. "What if teenagers got it and out of curiousity decided to try it out? And what about the older generation who is not as open-minded? "Are the younger generation really so open-minded to do such things and is it appropriate to give condoms as wedding gifts?" The STOMPer has digitally masked the couple's faces and names to protect their identities. "I just hope to let the younger generation know that such wedding gifts are really not that appropriate, no matter how open-minded you are," she said. ---------- To Stomper Chia: The couple is actually trying to say, "Don't follow us in having a shotgun wedding. Practice safe sex!!" The couple also one kind lah; want to give, also must be Durex strawberry or at least Okamoto with vibes lah... Give people this kind of SAF-issued standard condoms for overseas trip??? Haiz...maybe the husband working in the SAF store, got free access...

My wife got a biz diploma from TP, then a few years after working she took one and a half yr part-time biz course from SIM, under RMIT. She graduated and used that to apply for a job in HP. Now she is happily working there, somemore doing quite ok. The course did say only eligible for those above 27 yrs old, with poly biz diploma, and a certain years of relevant experience. However not cheap, think near to $20K to be paid within the one year. Not sure if this is still available now that its called UniSIM...

Yes, most companies do discrimate on how long you take for the course, whether is it distance-education and if its from the original school. Realise that when you fill up the application form, the education section always ask for the year, "From" and "To". Some forms even have a column for you to tick if its "on-campus" and "off-campus/distance learning". Eg there was a time when Thames claimed to offer a degree program from University of Cambridge, but very soon everyone realised that its actually a Thames' certification and they pay University of Cambridge to mark it. After realising that many students actually dropped out when they found that very few employers would honour such qualifications.
