  1. I am no longer able to measure the distance. This was my previous place. But as can be seen from the picture, I recall the space was just wide enough to put a small dustbin (from Howards) and a toilet roll holder. I recall that I had to specially choose a toilet roll holder where the roll is placed vertically (usual is horizontal). Although there is sufficient space to mount the toilet roll holder horizontally, it would be difficult to insert the toilet roll. I do not remember any problems with the leg space.

On shifting the WC, I have no idea how people do it. The WC outlet is bored through the floor slab (into the unit below) and so the location of this outlet is fixed and practically impossible to shift. The most that can be done is to orientate the WC to face a different direction, while still using the same outlet. Or alternatively, if you place your WC at a different location, you need to have some fairly large PVC piping to carry the discharge back to this outlet. Side elevation drawing of a typical WC here.

thanks!!! u have been a great help!! =) shifting WC? leave it to the plumber! hehe..i did shift one downstairs.. to create a yard area.. will update more when time comes..

  2. I had space constraint too when renovating my place and went ahead to shift the toilet bowl. Doing so, the leg space for the right leg is cramped with little space (as the picture shown here):

It was what my architect designer proposed. Though it was with heavy heart to go ahead, looking back it was the right thing. It was just a matter for me to get used to it. The reason was to create a space for the shower area. As in the picture below, the glass door of the shower area swings into the shower area. It can't even swing all the way in but enough to get me inside.

thanks!! btw your rug looks super fitting!! care to share where u go it! hehee

i like the idea of a plant in the bathroom!! thanks for sharing!

  3. My ID remind me lots of time to tell me if I can't take hairline crack I can't go for cement flooring, so I am well prepare. I just take those hairline as the pattern of the floor lor hahaha.

I looking at louvered blinds with ball chain system instate using the string pully thingy, I love blind just that I think is much more easy to maintain just have to wipe down and dust it than will be all good.

I am sure I will need to host some friends and family during CNY, why ah? want to visit me ah?? hahaha

wow!! i am looking forward to see your blinds! sounds super cool!!

i dun mind visiting to see your place! hehe.. so i self invite.. :notti:

Sorry, not able to take a complete picture of the toilet. Camera not wide angled enough. To the right is my vanity top / basin. I took this picture from the toilet door. For the shower area, I only have a fixed glass panel that prevents water splash to the rest of the toilet.

Looks good! If I take the same design will means I have to shift the WC..do u mind sharing how much space u have bet WC and the glass screen?

  5. Kitchen tiles

initially decided on these for the kitchen flooring

    kitchen%20tile_zpscayhp5ke.jpg

but atlas my floor is too small and ID has already ordered and he showed me it was not possible to see the design i wanted and asked if I wanted to think twice before he lay the tiles..He then offered to let me change my tiles and he will think of ways to return the tiles back to the shop and order another batch! :good: to his service!

so now i chose these instead.. black and white combi... hope it will work out nice..

  6. master toilet

Today went down to discuss with ID how to solve the WC position. the leg space bet WC and shower screen is very cramp that's y he proposed

to put 3 panels of sliding door to the shower area. so when not in used the screen can be open n the area will be spacious.

we decided on bifold door but i will try to ask him on the few suggestions ricepapergirl and kstoh suggested to see if it's feasible. =) personally i still prefer swing door. just my preference.

Now I have another issue due to this, he is not able to put in seatee anymore coz it's not nice and very cramp in the shower area.. =(

guess i cant have the best of both worlds? or anyone out there can have any good suggestions?

  7. I never used my Brandt hood (coz I use my outdoor kitchen). So I have turned it on only a few times for the past 2 years. But just the other day when I turned it on, it suddenly stopped. I had to call the extended warranty hotline to arrange for repairs. I think the repairman said something to the effect that "the starter spoilt". I do use my other Brandt hob almost every day and it is working fine. Brandt is ok. I think it is the less premium sister of De Dietrich? i would say all cooker hoods spoil after some time.

Yes, if the horizontal fixed glass panel is long enough, past your body and usual landing zone of the water spray, you do not need a door on the right. I have done it before. But you do need a kerb (unless your shower area is stepped down) to prevent water from flowing out.

thanks for the hoods review! =)

yes. my shower area is stepped down.

can share pic of what u have done? =)

  8. Alternatively, maybe try a sliding door instead of a swing door for your entrance into the toilet? Maybe slide towards your vanity if towards the right is not possible (I'm guessing those are pipes the box with the X on it). You mentioned your vanity pipes are in but the actual vanity isn't yet right? Can mount slightly away from the wall so that the sliding door can fit inside?

sounds like a good plan! will talk to my ID to see if it's feasible.

  9. Hi twinklecloud!

Yeah I was thinking if you didn't want to feel so cramped you could just have one fixed shower screen (not L-shaped) because actually the spray from a showerhead/rainshower wouldn't go super far and at most you need a screen to shield the sidespray onto your WC or your vanity. Also less glass to have to clean.

For us, we are keeping the original configuration of the MBR bathroom so we are just sticking the shower area in one quarter and not building any shower screen at all since the bathroom is so big.

thanks ricepapergirl! now the tiles and pipes all done.. it's kind of hard to switch.. have to think of new ways to solve this problem.. =(

  10. twinklecloud, thank you for the compliment.

I have to say on photo it good great haha, but cement screed floor I have to deal with the hairline crack lor, if you ok with it is not a bad idea. But I love the wood like tiles you have at your place as well.

Ya plan to move in by end of the month, so now have to push for all the item to be in on time, I still yet to order my blind yet, hope can make it on time a bit gan jiong and stress now.

Nextstep, dun stress.. take it easy..=)

I cannot take crack line that's y i dun have it in my place.. hehe.. i just cant stand cracks! oh.. the wood like tiles?hehe... not completed yet. thanks for the compliment. now my turn to stress... facing some issues... need to think of how to solve the problem..

what kind of blinds u looking at? i am also planning to blinds my whole house. will u be having visitors during CNY?

  11. need some advise/input if any

facing some problem with the master toilet combination. the tiles has been done and now it's either we change the position of the toilet or change the swing door to bifold but somehow i still feel the whole bathroom is very cramp..

can anyone advise how to get the best out of it? the pipes for the vanity has also been done.. =(

    refer to pic

    mastertoilet%20plan_zps3rqv30dk.jpg

which one is best? i find all three still cramp even when switch the entrance swing door to bifold door.

  12. Hihi!!

Haha I saw some of the photos already ( :P)! Looking good! Andrew says if I want to see his workmanship I should just wait till your house is done and I come see yours? Heh heh.

Oooh! You bought your recess area? But keeping the louvre window wall? We decided we wouldn't buy our recess area muahaha but still use it to store shoes anyway. :P

As for lighting at the staircase, our own preference (but of course doesn't mean it's the best) is to get LED lights which are uplights and downlights concurrently, and mount one above the staircase mid-level landing, and also one on each side of the Void area next to the staircase. This way they will work to light up the staircase area as well as provide lighting for the first floor at the edge of the dining room and the living room. And then wall lights on the second floor landing.

Uplight+downlight LED light something like this? We saw what we wanted from Chan Huat but no pictures of it:

    7607.jpg

I was quite interested in a good hanging light from the ceiling but we really couldn't find one that we liked that would be easy to clean. And if it was a normal ceiling light it might be difficult to reach in order to change the bulb next time or do any kind of maintenance. We did think the along-the-stairs lighting effect would be good but that's way too many lighting points to do for us, not to mention we intended to just keep our staircase as is mostly without needing to do much to it.

wow! u got the first hand view! hehe..

the downlight and uplight looks good.. i may consider it thanks for sharing!! your research is progressing very well!!

  13. Would like to ask anyone has any ideas what is nice to light up the staircase
Option 1 . hanging lights for the staircase (pic for illustration, similar or different)

    hanging%20lights_zpsvysldb6l.jpg

Option 2. Wall light (see the light mount on the wall of the staircase)

    wall%20light_zpsz53fp5lv.jpg

Option 3. Small LED bulbs along the staircase to light up the stairs way (something similar to the one below)

    Maisonette-Loft-Design-Lower-Hall-Decorc

Which one is good? Any comments anyone? hehe.. jump so fast to lighting.. hehe.. thanks all

  14. Hi twinklecloud!

Wow! Heh heh. Is Andrew going to do your kitchen up then? Does he do it with Kompactplus or with something else for that wood-feel countertop? I was quite set on my dark-coloured cabinet doors and my wooden countertop because I was worried about discolouration of the cabinet doors and didn't want a white (stains easily) or a black (cannot see stuff like ants or water on it) countertop!

For the countertop, not going to use the wooden kind... I'm using quartz but I do hear that kompactplus is quite good too! U can explore the possibility... =)

Wow.. So fast u r already into electronics and sofa... I haven't even started hunting for mine.. Haha...
