Hi marcel A memorable way to start 2014. From your choice of dining table, I am sure your final product will be practical and nice. An ID may be able to give you a nicer product but not necessarily practical. Yours would be "aweful" rather than "awful"! (It's awfully chocolate by the way).

[back to Table of Contents] This is interesting. I looked at my quotations. For 13,000 BTU, ME and MHI units were quoted the same. But for 18,000 BTU, both Gain City and another air-con contractor (which I eventually used) quoted $100 to $150 more for ME. But the important thing is that you are happy with your choice, and there are no problems.- 686 replies

In my outdoor patio, my originally ordered piece was delayed by months. To appease my wife, D'Galleria lent us a temporary set. This set was totally different. Instead of the usual wicker design, it uses metal. Ended up we liked it, so we accepted this set in place of the one we ordered. [back to Table of Contents]- 686 replies

These are the two chairs and one small round table I bought for my son's balcony, from the shop in Mid View City, whose name I forgot. I recall they were not expensive. The colour combination is a bit odd. These are the 8 seater Table & Chair dining set and Bali sofa, which we bought from D'Galleria. The table & chair set is quite normal but the Bali sofa is quite interesting. Not sure if you can visualise from the picture, but there are 4 separate pieces and they can be arranged to various configurations.- 686 replies

Hi Harriette We visited many shops that sell outdoor furniture and I cannot remember all of them. Those I remembered are:- OHMM Inspirational at Riverside Point - I recall quite expensive Resortz Living at 50 Macpherson Road - cheapest Eden Lifestyle at Bah Soon Pah Road Natural Living at Upper Bukit Timah Road Chin Ling Nursery at Bedok South Road D'Galleria Pte Ltd at Ubi Techpark I bought 3 sets from D'Galleria. I think the pieces here have better design and build quality. I also bought 2 chairs and 1 small round table from a shop in Mid View City, where Rong Chen Bak Kut Teh is located. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the shop. I you have limited time, then visit Resortz Living and D'Galleria.- 686 replies

One final point about air-cons is the use of single-split (one fan coil to one compressor) versus multi-split units (two or more fan coils to one compressor). In HDB flats, I think there is not much choice but in private homes, there might be a choice. Based purely on my personal experience, a multi-split unit has a number of disadvantages (unequal cooling especially for the furthest room, complete aircon failure for all rooms when single compressor breaks down) with no noticeable savings in energy consumption. By all accounts, everyone says that multi-split units should save energy. The brochure says that the compressor will scale down energy consumption if only one fan coil is in operation. But the truth is that, at least in my case, there is no noticeable energy savings. I don't know if it is the way I use my aircon, or the way I configured the multi-split. My complete speculation is that in a multi-split configuration, the single bigger compressor (notwithstanding the alleged intelligence to scale down) actually consumes more energy than a single split compressor. Anyway, for the current home, I decided to just use single-split for all rooms. What are your experiences?- 686 replies

One thing to note if you are buying Mitsubishi air-conditioner is that there are two Mitsubishi air-cons, one from Mitsubishi Electric (ME) and the other from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). Some less than open sales persons sell the units as though they are all the same, all from Mitsubishi but in fact, they are totally different. ME and MHI are both part of the Mitsubishi group, but this group is a very loose entity. Members of the group do sell similar products and in the case of air-con, ME and MHI actually compete against one another! In Singapore, ME is represented by Mitsubishi Electric Asia Pte Ltd while MHI is represented by the Wo Kee Hong group. If your MItsubishi Heavy Industries air-con breaks down, don't go running to Mitsubishi Electric Singapore, their competitor! Mitsubishi Electric is by: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is by: My aircon installer tells me that ME is slightly better, especially in multi-split but I cannot confirm this since I do not have any experience with MHI. On the internet, you also get people saying the other way round. But generally, ME is slightly more expensive than MHI. Maybe those of you who have experience with MHI units can share with us?- 686 replies

Hi Asking4Help Yes, I just returned. On aircon, I have used the following brands before: Daikin, Carrier, Toshiba, Panasonic & Mitsubishi. These are the more popular brands. I have also known of some people who tried some of the other not so well known brands like Delonghi and it was a disaster. For equipment that you are going to use daily for years to come, I think it is better to stick to tried and tested brands. The following are purely my observations: Daikin - Always reliable. But relatively expensive and seems like design is not as modern. Carrier - Reliable but now I do not know.. Toshiba - Originally not so bad but now the construction so plasticky (my cover hinge broke and I had to sue masking tape to secure it) and the remote not impressive Panasonic - Design impressive but performance fail. Noisy. Mitsubishi Electric - Design and performance good. I am currently using them. According to Jack Neo, you can clean the air-conditioner easily but I have yet to try it. http://youtu.be/NIOGLBMyPfs- 686 replies

If you want to display the image in your post, you cannot use Dropbox. Dropbox does not allow it. You have to use Photobucket and other websites. Don't understand your question on the PC- Samsung phone. Please elaborate.

Hi I am currently using Mitsubishi Electric. The type in adverts featuring Jack Neo. Good & quiet. Not to be confused with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, a totally different brand. Now on holiday. Cannot type a lot.- 686 replies

Kitchen & Bathroom Items...buy From Where?
Ks Toh replied to pda_lover's topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
I support Heritage too! Bought most of my toilet accessories from Irene and Sharrine. Both very helpful. For those products they do not carry e.g. Toto, they can also supply you if you give them the model number. In fact, I bought all my Toto basins and WCs from them. -

For those of you interested in DIY. Most useful would be the impact drill (see my amateur tutorial) and cordless screwdriver (no more blisters putting up the Ikea cupboard).- 686 replies

As water pressure decreases if you pipe water up to higher levels, in tall buildings including HDB flats, a water storage tank is provided at the roof to store water and pipe down the water to the flats. But I suppose you are referring to water storage heaters? This is contrasted with instant water heaters, which you are probably familiar with. In water storage heaters, the water is heated in the storage tank and piped out via the hot water outlet pipe. I can think of 4 instances when a storage heater system is needed: 1. When you need a separate hot water supply - A storage heater system is used when you are using taps and showers with hot and cold water supply inlets. An instant water heater would not be suitable in such cases. 2. When you need plenty of hot water - If you have a bath tub, and you want to have hot water fast, you need a storage heater. 3. When you need a strong supply of hot water -Where you are using a rain shower, I think the water from an instant heater is not strong enough. 4. When you just do not want a heater to be visible.

Hi Asking4Help Yes, I noticed that some toilets flush better than others. For example, I used the Toto CT940 for all my toilets as it seems to flush better. I think the water does not go straight down. It kind of spins anti-clockwise. The shop did tell me this particular model has one of the best flushing systems. This video (not by me) shows what I mean. The other neat thing about this WC is that you can use the Toto washlet. But the WC is quite big and price is on the high side. You can go to Fullsun, the Toto dealer along Jalan Besar to check it out. Their WCs have water connected, so you can actually sit (to see if comfortable or not), flush and see for yourself! Just in case you do not know, not all WCs can fit. You need to measure your toilet rough in i.e. the distance from the centre of your WC outlet to the wall. If the outlet is covered by your existing WC, I believe (but I am not certain) you can measure from the hold-down bolt. I am not sure about the ticks. I think the more ticks, the less water it uses? That being the case, unless it uses some technology that does the same job with less water, less water will mean weaker flush, which may mean you have to flush twice, resulting in you using more water than you would with a normal 2 or 3 ticks WC? Which defeats the purpose of saving water in the first place? Best to just follow this: "If it is yellow, let it mellow. If it is brown, flush it down"- 686 replies

Horse Lamp This is one designer piece I definitely did not buy. I saw it at the shop and went "what the **** is that?". But the shop told me it is a designer piece from Moooi and that I did not know how to appreciate it. Obviously, I am not in the same class as our former shampoo boy turned actresses' confidant, Mr David Gan, seen here riding his S$10,000 horse lamp.- 686 replies

The Bubble Chair My latest acquisition, and probably the most interesting, is the Bubble Chair. Designed by Eero Aarnio in 1968 in Finland it is made of acrylic on steel frame and leather or polyurethane fabric cushions. The chair is suspended from above leading to a floating or bubble-like sensation. It is considered an industrial design classic and advanced the usage of plastics in furniture design. The chair is considered modernist or spaceage and is often used to symbolise the 1960s period. I suspended it over level 2 glass balcony, thus heightening the suspended sensation. The Bubble Chair has been used for all sorts of photoshoots.- 686 replies
