  1. Thks man ... What about the front door ? Must be fire rated ? How do I tell the difference anyway ?
  2. Aiyoh..Serious ehh ? Frame more expensive then doors !! Do they have such a service which they " re-do" the frames ? Like paste a laminate sheet over the old frames ? Is it possible ? And does the new doors be fire rated ?
  3. No budget ... , I didn't wanna take a big loan Thank you for your advise , Now at least I know what to expect !
  4. Hi all.. I intend to change all the doors in my house , I need to know do the contractors remove the door frame as well or is it another added cost ? A total of 4 doors will be removed and changed , 2 bedrooms , 1 store and 1 front door , how long does it normally take to complete ? Anyone has any idea ?
  5. My kitchen is really huge And the full height cabinet and kitchen stove cabinet don't really face each other, coz my kitchen is long. The full height cabinet starts at the entrance of the kitchen and the kitchen stove is more nearer to the kitchen window. It's not really facing each other. At any time , 10 pple can walk around my kitchen My full height cabinet stop directly opposite the fridge Planning had to be done on what I store in my cabinet. Items I don't use regularly are kept in the 1st door next to the kitchen entrance, so I won't block the way when pple are going in and out. And it's items I don't regularly use , I don't open the door most of the time And other misc items are kept on the top section of the cabinet , only items I used regularly are stored within reach.
  6. If you don mind me asking, who was your ID and how much was the reno for your whole flat. They quote you on package price or individual charges ? How was the workmanship and follow up service ? My ID is from Chew Interior. very friendly lady Basically I went to several reno firms and Chew gave me the best price. I came with a list of items I want done for my reno. Most reno firms have several packages with a nett price. They'll try and persuade you to do unnessasary things , but you have to say NO. And stick to what you want. Some packages may be identical to what you want , just some items added here & there. just tell them to deduct the cost or ask for something free, like cooker hood , air-con , bath room accessories , etc.. My total reno cost no more then $16K and worksmanship is very good. She's very fierce with the contractors. She willingly absorbed quite a few stuff for me. It boils down to how you interact with the ID. If your clueless , they'll rip you off. Me & hubby planned this reno for almost a year, deciding on what we want and did research on cost price items like sinks , doors , downlights and other stuff. And I'll tell the ID , don't try and rip me off as I know the cost price of the items. I saved a few thousands $$ , like buying my own kitchen sink , toilet sink , downlights , wiring and lighting was done by my hubby who's a Technical Officer. I just pay for the labour. I understand they need to make $$ too, but if the cost is too high , I'll ask the ID to justify why the item is so expensive. As for the overlay of tiles , if it's an original tiles fron HDB , you cld probably overlay them . But still need to check with HDB coz if not done properly , the new tiles will "pop" out.
  7. The full height build in cabinet is located opposite my fridge with adjustable shelves. It basically acts as my store room. 1 side is used to keep big items like ladders ,foldable chairs , ironing board and vacume. The rest is misc stuff like my precious sewing machine & other stuff. I choose black & white coz it's easy to match if I want to repaint my walls , which I so often do And it's easier to play with colorful accessories .
  8. Hi PinkPetter , Thank you for your advise. But like what you've suggested , I've tried some methods that you've suggested. Like sometimes I'll pick him up at odd hrs when I'm on leave or have taken time off from work ,to see if I'm able to catch the teachers doing something inappropriate , but so far to no avail. The windows will be shut with curtains , so I won't get to see what's happening from afar Once I saw the teacher slap a 4 yrs old gal right across the face , just becoz the girl took a pencil. I was standing behide her , when she saw me , she acted like nothing happened. There were other teachers around too , but most of them wld just ignore it. ( This was about 2-3 yrs back ) Plus it's hard for me to speak to other parents as I normally pick my son and rush back to cook dinner or have an appointment. And I don't mingle with other parents. So it's hard for me to 'collect" evidence I have tried transfering him to another school , but they don't provide all day childcare around my area. And even if it's 3-4 hrs of school , the timing is not convienient. I'm at my wits end of what to do. It's just 3 more mths till my son gets outta that school, but I shudder to think about what the other children will go through
  9. Hi all.. I need advise on what to do regarding this topic. My 6 yrs old son has been complaining that his teachers are kinda abusive. His been with the same day care since he was 3 yrs old. Everyday , without fail I'll ask him how his day was in school , besides the usual routine , he'll sometimes tell me that his teacher wld punish him , like he'll get shouted upon or a slap on the arm or legs. I always try to reason with my son and tell him that maybe he was misbehaving or was not listening and always remind him everyday to behave in school so the teachers won't punish him. I try to give the benefit of the doubt to the teachers, as I understand it's a very stressful job. But time and again ,my son wld come home and tell me that he was punished yet again for something very trival. He told me when he's not able to sleep , the teachers wld pull the mattress off from under him while he's still lying down and wld send him to K1 , telling him that he's behaviour is like a small child, so they'll put him in the younger class. I did ask him , that perhaps he was disturbing other students or was making noise, and he'll cry and tell me that he wasn't. That he knows what will happen if he misbahaves. My son is not an angel but I know that he doesn't misbehave , esp in school. And I always try not to back him up when he is punished in school, as I want him to learn to take responsiblities for his actions. What I want to know is , is it ok for childcare teachers to slap kids around ? On several occasions , my son wld demonstrate to me that he was slapped on the shoulder , arms or legs. Sometimes with hands or rulers. And he'll tell me that other students get slapped around too. What can I do and where do I go to make a formal complain ? I've tried talking to the supervisor once, and she seems to back up the teachers. I feel like making a formal complain , but where do I go and who to I speak to ?
  10. Your reasons for the reno is just like mine. Wanted to upgrade , but the of prices for 4/5 rm are crazy. New flats like Punggol and Sengkang are just too inconvienient for us. And since it's just the 3 of us , I don't see the need for another room, as we plan to have only 1 kid. Thnak goodness my flat is 3A , which is kinda big , that's why we did the reno and stay for good Is your daughter in K1 or daycare ? My son goes to a full day day care as we're both working, the contractors normally stop their work at 5pm. Perhaps you cld bring your kid home after 5 pm , or have the neighbours care for her till you get back from work ? Normally the 1st week is challenging , that when they start the hacking , and if you wish to have your toilet done , the wetworks takes ard 2-3 days to complete. After the 1st week, it's not too bad , all the debris are gone and the reno will start to take shape. Just make sure to keep all valuables like jewellery , passport and all important documents in a safe place , like maybe your parents house.
  11. Most of us wld describe our home as small to medium in size know the importance of using every square inch to maximum efficiency. Rather than making their space look bigger, people want a cozy, intimate feel and prefer to use their space wisely and get the most out of it. One of the great things about small rooms is that they help us think creatively about the way we live. Furniture is a true complement to a small abode – it helps you maximize your space by providing function, comfort and style." AFMA suggests the following tips for ways to increase square footage without building on an addition: Go Vertical Consider tall furniture rather than wide to preserve precious floor space. Use Your Walls Add a shelf or rack to display a favorite collection or for hanging hats, ties and scarves. Stash It in Style Today's occasional tables offer plenty of storage with drawers, shelves and cubbies plus glass-topped display space for collectibles. Stack 'em Stackable and folding chairs are excellent ways to keep a supply of seating for a dinner party, holiday gatherings or drop-in guests. Sweet Dreams Sleep better knowing that you've taken advantage of the valuable space under the bed – in style. Use decorative boxes and storage bins to stow out-of-season clothing, wrapping paper, sporting goods or anything else. Retractable Doors When shopping for an armoire or entertainment center, look for ones with retractable doors to provide more space when the doors are open. Try the Kids' Department Youth furniture is designed to fit into smaller rooms but also accommodates adults just fine. Have a small guest bedroom or a little alcove office? A child's dresser or desk might be the perfect fit. Rollin', Rollin', Rollin' Many pieces of furniture have wheels – whether it is a sofa, a coffee table, a storage shelf, kitchen table or an ottoman. Enjoy extra mobility and function with a wheeled piece of furniture that is fashionable and practical. Don't Leaf It Out If a full-size dining room table is just too big for the dining area, ask your retailer about one with removable leaves. Accent It A mirror is always a nice accent to any room, but especially a small one. Mirrors add light and depth when space is limited. And the right accessories will highlight one's personal style and enhance the intimacy of a small space.
  12. It's possible if you don't mind the hassle. Plus I get to keep an eye on the contractors, make sure they come on time and not skive off work. But we did stay at the chalet during the weekends..
  13. Hi hi ... I have renovated my existing 3 rm flat a year ago and did live in it while it was renovating. I've stayed for 5 years and decided to renovate coz we finally made up our minds to stay for good. My renovations works : Redo my entire kitchen cabinet Redo my 2 bathrooms False celing in living room Feature wall in living room My flooring is Laminate and it was done 3 yrs ago. They did 1 room at a time and they wld move the furniture for me. And it was done in 1 day. It may not seem like much , but there's alot of work involved ! Plus I have a 4 year old son. The whole reno took about 2 weeks to finish. What they did was hack the kitchen and the kitchen toilet 1st. As we were living there , we still need to use the master bedroom toilet. The living room was done last , so all our furniture and misc stuff was moved to the common room. My fridge was in the common room. Thank goodness there was not alot of hacking done as my kitchen florring was overlayed. They only hacked the 2 toilets. As the common rm was not renovated , we slept in there and also hang our laundry there. It felt like we were living in a bangla's quarters. When the master bedroom was done , we moved some furniture , like the bed and stuff to the master bedroom. The sofa and other stuff had to be moved from the living rm to the MBR. Then they proceed to do my false celing and feature wall. Basically , there's alot of shifting of furniture to be done. The most important if to have good communation with the ID and contractor so you'll know what they are doing next to prepare yourself. Overall, the entire reno was an exciting , dusty , noisy experience !! You can view my blog and see more pics there... http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?au...blogid=211&

  20. Well , It's human nature that when there's money to spend , we'll probably spend it. Unless you're loaded. The reason I want most of the profits to go to my CPF is to avoid splurging on unnecessary things. And the added monies will help lighten the burden of mthly loans. Hmm... if my calculations is correct , my outstanding load with HDB shd be ard $95,000 I'm not too sure about the levy and stuff , too technical for me Coz the 1st time I purchased my flat was thru WIS , very easy process., but if Im a 2nd time buyer , there's alot of other stuff involved. So I'm kinda lost
  21. Hi all, I need some advice and help regarding profits matter. I got my flat at $135,000 thru WIS and if I'm selling it at $200,000 ,that means a profit of $65,000. Where does the $65,000 go to ? Will it be credited into my CPF or is there a cheque for me to bank in ? Is it possible to credit for example 80% of my profits into my CPF and the remaining 20% into my bank acct ? I've been staying in my current flat for 7 yrs now and wish to upgrade, coz my mum in law will be moving in, I'm not too sure how this goes . Will HDB credit back our CPF ? Any kind souls out there , pls advise me ~ Thank you ~

  23. Hi all, Just wanted to share a product which I've discovered about 2 mths ago. My friend recomended me this item. A few of my friends have been using this product and results are noticable. I think it's somewhat similar to chemical peels but it doesn't peel the skin. It's discribed as a rapid exfoliator . My skin did flake a lil , but my complexion has somewhat improved. I used to have rather oily skin and acne Plus it's really cheap ! haha No need to spend so much on facials already ! This is the link : www.wix.com/anisee/home
  24. Hi Hi.. The wording is indeed Bla...Bla...Bla... Coz it's the Living room, and it's the place thats the most noisy .
