  1. Woah...is that DAC the last part of the puzzle or you are looking at digital transport for sacd/dsd?
  2. Yup, it is, you going to buy this for your HT setup?
  3. Nice!! Have fun audition your AVR. Do share on your purchase when delivered. Happy shopping.
  4. GAB's operations are very simple & straight forward, if they don't have the products, they can check the prices & quote accordingly. They remained as an old traditional outfit. With regards to free delivery, back to the your purchased product vendor, ie; Hitachi fridge & samsung tv might be delievered by their own team, not even MDS. So far, I dont remembered paying any delivery charges. You buy more items from them, they will try to waive for you if possible. Make sure you do your homework, the savings on prices are more important than vs delivery charges alone. If possible, visit GAB since you are staying near to them at the moment. Do call them on opening hours to avoid hitting them when they are closing the doors for the day.
  5. If on budget, you can use your AVR as music streamer, again, it depends on what kind of format you are streaming. He is using the same AVR? I dont really get you.
  6. It should be music streamer->stereo amp->speakers(2.0) At HT, Bluray player->AVR->stereo amp->speaker(2.0) & AVR->3.1(your center & rear speakers & subwoofer).
  7. Nope, it will not, does not overlap any at all.If you are looking at 5.1 setup, you can consider AVR or if budget allows, go for pre & power amp 5.1 setup. If you wish to utilise your stereo amp for music playback, do check if it allows HT bypass or it does have pre-out. If looking at AVR, do consider 1 with pre-out, which make sense for your case since you are holding onto stereo amp at the moment.
  8. For such store like MDS, always got margin to allow for discount. They may charge cheaply for - item but the rest may not. Got to play around with bargain as usual. You guys really going all out to shop in Amazon, I'm holding myself back. As always, happy shopping!! The slogan remains, 'Sharing is Caring'
  9. You can consider this streamer.http://www.pioneer.com.sg/storefront4/ProductDetail/default.asp?ProductId=1304&CatId=64,9,228
  10. Yes, each point requires 1 cable to route it.You need to consider whether you are going to house the Fibre point at Hosting area. A point to note. Good that you leave them exposure, but do consider the fact to clean them easily, move the NAS at ease. Can't be too high up as well. For maximum cooling, does not have to high up, you can install electronic fan, low voltage type. To house the router on top, will increase the signal level of your router to the rest of your house. If you are heading toward network wiring, why even consider home plug? Wiring your place up will be long term, home plug mainly for short term solution. Wear & tear, the need to replace when new models are out. 1 router will do, no need to buy another for your MBR. Your intended placement on your floodplan seems ok to me. DAC is not a music streamer, you should look at digital music streamer/transport with build in DAC instead. DAC is digital to analog converter.
  11. If he really cook, eat lo, if I hit the toilet hard, he will get if!! Nice!! enjoy!
  12. Ya ya...no home cooked meal hor.
  13. Want to buy stuffs, value for $, think no further, follow dragonnite's method. Confirmed will not 'lugi' much. Sure got some $$$ for WANTS but not NEEDS.
  14. here you go.http://jplay.eu/forum/computer-audio/sacd-isos-and-flac-conversion/
  15. GAB's service pretty straight forward, typical neighbourhood store. Can bargain if you are looking at more than 1 item.Show proof of transacted price or quotation something like that. I happened to be in the store, encountered people doing it, personally, never tried before. I had been monitoring prices before my renovation roughly 6 mths, if I find the prices decent & good, I will locked it for good. Never look further. I believe in such cycle. When you want it, can't find it, when you don't need it, it will comes to you, so take chance when offered. Short & sweet. That's me again.
  16. Yup, Norah Jones if I remembered correctly. You can extract iso to dff right?
  17. As for electronic stuffs, just freq Best Denki or Mega Discount store aka MDS for an idea on pricing. Generally, MDS willing to match the price if you can prove it. If you really know what to buy, just need to call up the store with regards on store promotion or any GSS promotion during this period. Save the hassle to visit the stores.Alternatively, if you are not looking to clock rebates/points for credit card, cash basis, can call Goh Ah Bee in Kovan, prices can be quite comparable. No experience on Parasilk so no comments.
  18. Bigger screen to shop also mean greater risk to buy more. Been out of touch. Usual suspects will be furniture malls. Buy straits times on Saturday, scan through the advertisements. Also, can try to scan through those websites, if there are any promotions around. In general, you should be able to take advantage of GSS, problem is decision must be swift due to low stock at times unless you can sit through the lead time.
  19. If your budget allows, go for 2 network points each at 1) TV console, 2) Studyroom 3) Hosting area 4) MBR if possible. Of cause the later, can be 1 point if you really see no need for it. Just a quote, to add 1 switch easier or a point earlier during renovation stage if the future additional is only 1 network point. You can always re-locate your NAS to Studyroom if needed with such plan in place at present. For starhub setup box, don't bother to provide Internet access for it IMO. Further, what kind of broadband you will be using? It will also affects the route as well. Provide as much information of your intent as possible to discuss. The 2 brands are decent, you can always upgrade to quality ones in future. Now just make do with what your budget allows, with regards to custom cabinet, make sure you provide ample space allowance for housing your gadgets. You will never know what is your next upgradeable gadget's dimension. Trust me, never go precise on such details. Not just that, make sure you provide allowances for cable management, to house your power adaptor etc. 2nd that on Dragonnite's suggestion. The key to maintain your gadgets equal good ventilation in place. Do consider at ease for cleaning(easy for Missus to clean ) to avoid naggy comments from her.Back to setup, make sure all your stuffs are gigabit certified, if not, transfer speed will be affected. You can re-do if you are keen.
  20. That depends on you. Simple solution, buy 12/16 ports switch, place it at the location where your NAS & router. Link all your points to that switch. 1 cable to interconnect from switch to router, as router only got 4 ports.Or, like me, install a patch panel, connect the switch to the patch panel, build a cabinet to conseal those messy cables. Having patch panel, you can always relocate the point from A to B. Can also further use them as telephone points. To network your home, consideration will always be messy cables at central hub. Need to mitigate the eye sore effect for your Missus if you get my hint
  21. If privacy is an issue, better off to host another NAS offsite at your folks place.
  22. Yes, need 2 pcs, TV->AVR->Setup Box. Sorry, not sure whether Starhub offers free Hdmi cable, maybe you can check with their customer service, as I'm not their subscriber. Nice! Should sounds better!! His 2.0 setup very expensive, his speaker very slim. If you read back my tblog, you will find the answer.
  23. Since when did I mentioned Raid is backup? Nowadays, no need to backup so many copies. Run raid 5 with 2 pcs of redundancy. Easy & straight forward. That's the purpose of having NAS, running big sized storage. If the hardware choose to fails, no matters what, will be wrong.
  24. Fro cat6 cables, buy locally will do. Can try LHS in Sim Lim Tower for custom length. For HDMI cable, can try these 2 brands, Aiborg/Monoprice Redmere, try Xtremeplace forum. Im using this, pretty decent. Buy longer length, can cut off any excess7 & recycle the balance.
