Design phase. Choosing an ID wasn't difficult. We have an ID friend that has done up 3 of our friend's houses and we like the consistency in quality so we went with him. We did look around to check the market rates for reno stuff and this forum was particularly helpful in this area, and found our ID quite pricey. So after a bit of bargaining and a lot of consideration, we decided to go with the quality we know we will appreciate in the years to come. After many revisions in the design, we settled with this. Our ID still says that he didn't contribute much in this phase cos we pretty much did all the layout planning ourselves. But looking back now we really couldn't have done without him. Apart from just getting everything in place, our ID sorted out all the necessary lengths, heights, recommendation of colour schemes, materials... Final touches that we "untrained" people will not realise till it's too late. We never got a proper rendered 3D picture but this was fine. The reno stuff in general are: - leaving the rooms almost untouched - hacking away the old wet kitchen and wall - build new dry and wet kitchen, separated by a sliding glass door - remove all existing flooring in the living/dining and corridor - hack into the existing balcony and incorporate it with the living - redo both toilets

Greetings. I've been wanting to do a T-Blog from the start of our reno but never got to it. So now we're at the end of our reno, this just a recap of our journey. This is my floor plan. We were hunting in the mountbattern area for at least 6 months and finally settled on this one mainly because of the floor plan. These are the other 5 rooms we checked out in this location. This is in the newer block. I liked the distance of the block to the station but not this floor plan, especially the narrow living room. And this one has a nice big living and dining.. It was a toss up between our final choice and this and the one... The bigger mbr and toilet location was the deal clincher.

Boil water in 1+ minute! Love it. Well you can boil water just as quick with an electric kettle but the cool factor is not there. Haha. Other pros are: 1) Super easy to clean. Just one wipe and it's brand new. 2) never run out or gas or have a gas leak. 3) Instant temperature adjustment which the other electric cookers don't have. 4) No heat loss. When you remove your pan the heating stops until you put your pan back. And cos there are no open flames, your surrounding stays cool. Cons: 1) price is definitely one. Especially if all your pots and pans cannot work on induction 2) uses a lot of electricity..

Haha. That is true. But oh the joy of finding a good deal. I bought mine at home-fix too during their sale and got 10% off I think. But I know there are some smaller shops that sell them for a $10 discount. The only shop I saw with this discount was at ang mo kio but it closed down already. Maybe someone else can chime in?

This is my floor plan. Quite similar to most 5 rooms in cassia crescent. We were hunting in the mountbattern area for at least 6 months and finally settled on this one mainly because of the floor plan. So since you're interested in floor plans around our area, these are the other 5 rooms we checked out here. This is in the newer pine close blocks(your block too i think).. I liked the distance of the block to the station but not this floor plan, especially the narrow living room. And this is in the older pine close block. Super nice big living and dining.. It was a toss up between cassia cres and this and the one, and the bigger mbr and toilet location was the deal clincher.

Yeah I'm at Cassia. Almost done with my reno but haven't got the time to start the t-blog. maybe in the next week or two.

So many of you guys in the area ah. Please share other secrets about this place leh.. Do you guys know what's happening to the badminton hall?
-
I find the pau there a bit over rated though.. considering Tanjong Rhu pau is just 5 min walk away.

Looking good! Can't wait to see your oak floors done up. I'm actually in the same area too and will be doing a mini T-blog soon. BTW, have you tried the zhi char at 34 cassia crescent, it was featured on the Sunday times last week. Super yummy.. You can even phone in your order and just pick it up. Love the location!

Love the scanteak furniture.. They always add some class to the room. Any pictures of the kitchen?

on a similar note, check this foosball table out... Don't think it's for sale though.

Where are you planning to put the Foosball Table? Are you getting one with the coin slots? I wanted to get one for my house too.. wanted it to be like the house in the "Friends" sitcom where my guests can entertain themselves when I'm preparing dinner. I was even thinking of the coin slots version like those you see outside cos that will make it more authentic and fun and my guests can end up paying for the machine too(eventually).. but after some research I found out that those with coin slots are a lot more expensive cos they have a build in "safe" to house the coins are built differently, mainly heavier so people cannot carry them away. haha. Eventually we gave up the idea cos we don't really have the space. Oh wells.. Can't wait to see yours!

I'm also interested to find out more about this Karcher SV1902. Can it really steam clean carpets like the professionals?

Wow! Definitely a breather from the minimalist houses we've been seeing. Very nice indeed. Your ID must have put a lot of work into this one.

Where To Buy This Replica Counter Stool
whitehousey replied to whitehousey's topic in Home Furnishings
Thanks Andreja. Yeah I'll go check that out. But I think I still prefer the Hans Wegner one, or maybe one with 4 legs. -
Hi everybody, I've been looking around for barstools and this is the only one that caught my eye. Saw it at that posh German kitchen shop along Armenian St, and they are selling it for $2000+. Anybody knows where I can find a replica of it? I've been to Lush-Lush & Comfort and they don't have it there. Thanks. http://www.danishdesignstore.com/collections/designer-collections-hans-wegner/products/wegner-ch58-counter-stool

This one from scanteak is nice too. Solid teak is always a winner!

Hdb Floorplans: The Best (And Worst) Layouts In Public Housing
whitehousey replied to PublicLife's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Thats a good workout for your kid every time he/she needs to take a wee. I really like this one. The living room + kitchen is huge when combined. Great for an open concept and you'll have no problems even with 20 guests at your place.
