  1. didn't know Chan Huat is like this... For the last reno for my family, I bought 4 ceiling lights from them and then my bro didn't like the designs and went to change. But there are a number of branches, so its hard to say... I also worry about my lights casing rusting. I bought those bases with cords to fix the bulbs on, then it was only on the nite before the electrician was coming to fix that I realise there were some spects and pop up bits and uneven surfaces. contractor said its spray painted and he can't be sure if it would rust. so I'm going down to exchange. even buying lights so problematic... I'm very tired of going down to Balestier.
  2. Thanks Sygnur. Juz met my contractor, he say skirting r all done like this now. If I can show him other places not like this, he will admit is his fault.
  3. Thanks all. Anyone could help by posting a photo of how the corner of ur skirting look like?
  4. Serious issue here. ok, you can't see any problem with the photo, but when I walk around my bedrooms' floor, I can feel the unevenness almost every step. and its like the type that feels sharp to the feet. the grouting is also uneven, some areas you could see the grout properly filled up between the gaps, some areas you just see the gap and not the grout. then for those areas filled with grout, some are light grey in color while others very dark grey, though they could be side by side. contractor said its moisture and common issue for using cement as grout or even color grout but this is ridiculous. I've never hear anything like this before. As for the unevenness, he said its the tiles issues and can ask the tile companies down to explain to me. Since all these were over the phone, I'll just see what the contractor got to say when we go down to my house tomorrow. and for the corners of my skirting, they are really ugly, you can see a grey exposed area whenever there is a corner. Is this the norm? pic before painting. anyone experienced issues with tiling before? I thot laying the tiles evenly, and doing the grout grout properly are very basic expectations. I'm not even complaining that they did not arrange the running tone tiles properly to ensure the color and lines flow properly.
  5. That's cool. I confess tho, by the time I come to purchase lights, i'm already too tired to do any simple diy or buying shades n light codes, so I got a simple round light for my bedrm. Perhaps when I do my second house in future, I could save more time n money in certain areas and do more fun stuff.
  6. Thanks... Actually I went down last Sunday to Hafary, LSH and another shop that stretch. Confirm they don't sell grout, all referred me to Buildersmart, which unfortunately is not open on Sunday. Now my very kind colleague going to help me buy some color grout from the sources he has. But hopefully, after the contractor washes the floor, everything will look acceptable and I don't need to insist that they change the grout. btw, I like your mbr bathroom. color theme very much like a spa and the "indent ledges" by the 2 sides are nice.
  7. terrible people. hope you get your things completed properly soon and never have to deal with them again.
  8. Thanks Sohnice. You are right on that point. Furthermore, the thief may spot the peephole cam but if a really kiasu person also install other cameras inside the house, then they may not be able to spot it and these usually can be internet linked so I presume the image is already stored some where whether or not the thief tackles the camera. Will ask my contractor if can add one more point near the door.
  9. Thanks Sohnice. Sounds good, but this one doesn't have internet connection so I can't see when not at home... So this is not so much for break in cases but to see if your neighbour do funny things? Cos if break in, the burglar could take away the sd card or device too. Not sure if I understand the device correctly. Do you plug in to the power point to save battery? I don't have a power point near my door. not sure why I didn't install one power point there everytime I thot I plan properly but always got problem with electrical points. Could you also pm me the price? Thanks.
  10. Thanks for ur advice. So sad that my contractor and tilers so jialat. When I choose tile, the contractor say will choose matching grout. When it comes to actual doing, he say he only got experience with white grout. So now I going to get my own color to test out n show him.
  11. Was searching for a nice wall light to put above a collage. I thought this black slim wall light looks just right: (image from Whitewoods) Lovely styling by Whitewoods. I felt that the light really added points to the atmosphere. While the sliver and bronze picture lights could be found in most shops, I couldn't find one in black. Anyone know where to get this? I think this is just used for styling by Whitewoods. The silver/nickel plated picture lights look fine too but not so matching with my hanging bulbs (see earlier post), which is more industrial style while the slim silver picture lights look more classic. Then I saw this cute light. No, this is not a picture light but perhaps I could just shift the picture to the right of this lamp, put a simple chair under the lamp, then create a niche corner? Any comments? This is my last outstanding light. Has already overshot my budget
  12. I don't have false ceiling and my ceiling is only 2.4m. How high is your ceiling? I'm putting these as the first light of the living room rather than dining. Hopefully 1m works. should have ordered longer cords but didn't think of doing that till someone suggested + I see your drapping effect is nice.
  13. Hi Sohnice Could you share how you find your peephole camera? Angle wide enough? Any issues? How did you decide on this model? So far happy with it? Thanks! Originalbread
  14. Any one used Fujioh NL900 or F99 before? Didn't see much review for F99. I need one with chimmey as I have a beam just above my hood and I'm not doing kitchen cabinet above the hood. I think visually it will look better with a hood with chimmey but I do not want to choose a hood based on looks too. Btw, I used a EF brand chimmey hood before and its really almost useless. thanks!
  15. Hi restlessfeet May I know how long is your cord? I thought of doing something like yours for the light I bought, but the cord is only 1m. not sure if it is possible to achieve a nice effect. thanks.
  16. It doesn't look big to me when I see it in the shop, but when I check the official website, it says 510mm.
  17. Thanks. Yes I drew it myself. But it took me many rounds of drawings before it looked this way. I'm pretty bad with such things. I realise I shouldn't have kept the previous owner's stove and sink top. It makes it very difficult to design. A friend told me last Saturday's Straits Times has some feature on kitchen designs, perhaps you could take a look? But I missed that feature.
  18. Hi May I know which grout you picked in the end? my tiles are greyish, cream and light brown sort of color and I picked grey grout. See pic of tile here. The contractor say to use cement directly since i want grey and cement is more lasting. in the end it turned out very very dark and looks really ugly. I'm waiting for him to clean up the whole place before i confirm if i could accept it. in the mean time, i'm thinking of trying out on my sample tiles a more matching grout color but i'm still searching for a hardware shop that sell grout.
  19. I'm still considering. Because my kitchen doesn't look as clean cut, it has a beam running across, just above the top of the hood and unfortunately, the hood that I like doesn't have a chimmey too. Posted my kitchen sketch here.
  20. Thanks. Looking forward to see photos of ur place with the furnishings in.
  21. Yes, the sales person said this should be more ideal than the other pendants. No I don't have downlights too. The round light you bought fr lightcraft is the one you mil says will create a softer look? that's nice too, but the pleat like pattern around the rim is fabric? I also concerned about dust sticking on fabric hard to wipe off. That's why the Chan Huat round light seems like a gd choice. Anyway, if I can't find suitable light for the mbr, got to ask the contractor on whether he can do for me later...
