  8. i dun really keep in touch with the latest lenses cos i'm not too into changing lenses while on vacation...but i am looking for a nice wide angle for landscape shots to complement my 18-200mm zoom...was looking at the 10-24 or the 12-24 f4...the 14-24 is too ex...
  9. i've always liked to read Ken Rockwell's reviews on the various lenses, the link below is for the Nikon ones, he also does reviews for Canon etc... http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/nikkor.htm i like my 18-200mm for its versatility (read: sheer laziness to change lens), besides its ability to take superb pictures...i've started travelling with my 60mm f2.8 just for low light and macro shots...
  10. mine has been with me to harbin (-20 to -30 deg C) as well as in the gobi/taklamakan desert ... and everything in between... been very reliable so far the only thing about it is that it's pretty heavy with my 18-200mm
  11. i think kim has a d600...i'm still using a d200 but i shoot a combination of raw + jpeg fine...
  12. ask her colleagues to tell you where the wholesale markets are - they are usually dedicated for each purpose i.e. one for clothes, one for houseware etc...these are either the actual TB store owners or the suppliers to the TB online stores so the prices there are very good but need to bargain... haven't been to SH for a while but the one at 科技馆 sells all the cheong stuff...
  13. U shld order from tb n send it to ur hotel...no harm gg to the malls but u run the risk of bot being able to get one at that price point....then it boils down to whether u hv enuf time for the tb seller to ship to u...unless seller is in sh,u need to factor about 3-5 days lead time... Happy shopping!

  18. actually no...i simply told MDS, "xxx offered me this price, can you match that ?" they had to cos I bought all my electronics from them so they could do that for me...i think my total spend there was like $3+k and can charge to credit card... somehow, i got the impression that MDS is more flexible for pricing than the rest... oh, almost forgot...i bought my washing machine from HN because they had a direct promo with Thomson and their price ended up being cheaper than anywhere else...again, v heng suay cos i went to try my luck during their anniversary sale and got a really good deal... ditto for courts for my electrolux vacuum cleaner... dun complain lah...me too i like the muji ones...

  20. ya, kim, redo ! ! :notti: ong can b ur main consultant, i b his assistant...we v cheap - buy us dinner...
  21. i scouted for all the items i needed (furniture, electronics, bathroom fittings etc) about 4-5 mths b4 i needed them so i oredi had an idea of what was reasonable... in terms of sale, it's v heng suay...i happened to hit the hansgrohe 30% anniversary sale so i whacked them all at a go even before i needed them... all my electronics were bought at MDS - they have a list price, then they gave me a discount (varies from item to item, at least 15% off each item)...then i made them give me an overall discount on top of that i did call up audio house, paris silk etc and made them give me a quote over the phone for every item i wanted before i went with MDS...did not call up GAB cos they probably won't entertain me.. furniture, i faithfully scanned ST every saturday looking for deals and discounts... yes, it's a lot of work but if you want to make sure you get the most bang for your buck, you gotta do this...
  22. just make sure the wireless router in your living (or wherever) is preferably not enclosed for optimal signal strength...your equipment (NAS, switch etc) also gotta make sure there's adequate ventilation as they get pretty warm if they are switched on for long periods of time... in terms of switch brands, those 2 mentioned by lala81 are good, but there are also inexpensive unknown taiwanese brands in SLS that are very good as well...just make sure you get gigabit ethernet switches - remember that to fully optimise your fibre speed, every single component in your network path should be GE compliant, from the router to the switch to the cables to your end-point...
