  1. Bought most of our electrical appliances from Unilite and our mattress from Cheap Mattress Centre @ Macpherson. Impulse buys to some extent especially we haven't even received our keys :D I think we are one of the most kiasu couples around LOL

Now only left TV, sound bar, Ikea stuff for the living room & store room, sanitary wares, bed, drawers, bookshelf, lighting & switches!

Wa, you so fast bought all your electrical appliances liao! So did u bought smeg fridge? :sport-smiley-018:

  2. Hi Bleucheeze, most welcome to help you. Good to know that you had the intention to engage network contractor to fix up the wirings for you.

Back to your questions, buy a strong signal router & place the router in your study room. I presumed your study room & living room side by side & MBR opposite your study room.

Your intention of 1 point each in living room & study room was to link them up via wired access. If I had interpreted correctly.

Here you go on the route.

Open net point->fibre modem->cat6 cable connected to your living network port aka RJ45>>(your contractor will setup a LAN cable link from living room to study room)->study room network port aka RJ45>cat6 cable connected to your router->2 type of access to answer your needs(see below)

    1) wired access

Connect your laptop to router ports

    2) wireless access

Enable your wifi in your router

Now, why place it in study room. Centralise your wifi access, signal will be stronger near your intended wifi zone coverage. Your mobile devices, tablets, pads, smart phone will received better signal that way.

Do note that if possible, place your router as high as possible, never below your human height level. Reason being, at that level, you had placed pretty much blockage at that level, being your furniture & fittings, cabinets, chairs, table etc, they does affects the signal. The higher it is, the better signal it is.

Of cause, your wired connection to your laptop might be un-glam, for that you need to brainstorm. :sport-smiley-004:

Which brand of router to look at? Asus RT-AC66U if budget allows, I do remembered that if you signed up fibre plan, discount will be given, should set you back at $200 range. Official retailed price at $289.

Alternatively, Asus RT-N56U, it is pretty decent, discount should set you back at $100, retailed price at $159? If my memory served me right.

Feel free to hit me again :yamseng:

alternatively, u can do TP -> fibre modem (provided by ur fibre provider) -> router...you need a router before you can setup an access point, some routers can be configured to be either but not both...

if u want to do wireless mostly in living, then i would say put the router in the living room instead of the study which will have the wired connection...strength of signal to your mbr depends on how many walls ur router gotta go through - put in study may not give you best signal strength...different type of walls will behave differently...killers are fridges and that nice solid wall of the bomb shelter... :bleah:

u can consider doing powerline networking (aztech is good) or simply put a wireless repeater to boost the strength...wireless repeater best to get same brand as your main router but not impossible to do...

to test your signal strength and to see how the signal strength varies, use one of your mobile phones as an access point...then install this app, called wifi analyzer for android (sorry, i dun hv any apple devices, can't help you there)...connect to your AP and see how ur signal strength is like as you move through your house...then u know where to site your router and which channel you should set on for maximum signal strength...

wireless router, both asus models are good...my cisco ea4500 cost me $199 on a special deal from M1 when i signed up for my fibre plan....

Thanks ongcs & dragonnite for sharing. Actually my network is done already (fibre and LAN), just pending Starhub's installation of modem cum router (i believe it's 2-in-1 model). My house is still under reno so can't really test now.

Back to your suggestions, I'm still not very sure what to do, so please pardon my somewhat ignorant questions. Does router need to be connected to modem? Cos thinking of putting router in study, one RJ45 port will connect to my laptop wired, and can switch on router's wifi to use in study and mbr, right? However, if router needs to be connected to modem here, then I dunno what to do liao :dunno:

My opennet point and starhub router/modem are right beside my main door, so it is some distance away from living room, plus they are cordoned off by a door, so I'd prefer not to use the starhub router for wifi in living room. Since i have a LAN point in living room, what device do you guys suggest I use if I only want wifi in living room (that is no need wired access)? My network contractor says I can use this device called wireless access point (IIRC)... Should I use this or router?

  3. Hi ongcs, can I seek your advice on home network too? My Opennet point and modem/router will be installed in db box area which is near my main door. Got a network contractor to set up LAN with a RJ45 point each in living room and study. I intend to use wireless only in living room. And for study, I hope to have both wired (connected to my laptop) and wireless (hope to use in mbr opposite). What device do you suggest I buy to set up the wireless? Is it a device known as Wireless access point? Thanks in advance!

  4. should i order big mirror fm TB,they have nice frame big mirror

    what you gals think?

I think you have to check with seller if they ship to areas in China outside where they are located. I think i've seen somewhere in TB whereby sellers not willing to ship mirrors.

  5. that's y i always say, talk to the seller...and stress to them that u r sending it overseas, they're usually more careful then (packing etc)...like i said, i've ordered countless times, usually they won't get colour etc wrong - the only problem usually is quality... :sport-smiley-018:

I blur blur didn't know that May doesn't repack / inspect, otherwise I would have tell all sellers to pack well. Sigh :bangwall: I only told a few of them whom I ordered fragile stuff from. *fingers crossed* My previous batch of lamps I ordered via Daigou came very well packed and those are original sellers' packaging.

  6. Does anyone have Hettich contact? They moved from Jurong to Ubi, and I can't find their contact number online. Tried emailing them but haven't hear from them for very long. I'm hoping to visit their showroom and will like to know their showroom's operating hours.

  7. Amcon is helping me ship stuff to Singapore. Just wanna share, actually they don't help to inspect the products, be it quality or colour. Am surprised to hear this cos I always have the impression that they do, or perhaps I remembered wrongly.

  8. Your choice of laminate colours is definitely bold. And I think together with your accessories (or future ones) and wall/floor tiles, your kitchen will be very unique! :sport-smiley-004:

Not sure what handles are available here, but I feel it'd be good to use one-of-a-kind handles with your cabinets. Otherwise, no handles imho.

Ya, most probably go without handles. I don't dare to buy any kitchen appliances for now as I would want to match with my future kitchen colours as much as possible! Luckily the eggplant colour Staub pot and WMF pan I bought some time ago can match... :sport-smiley-004: Didn't have that much colour coordination problems in day to day life, even in clothes matching :P

Love the tissue boxes we got for the house. Took a while for us to find a simple tissue box that we liked. Muji had one, but it didn't fit the conventional tissue size (buying their tissue refills just to fit their tissue box would cost us a bomb :P)

May I know where did you get this tissue box from?

  10. Nice colors! Your suggestion of 2 orange tones sound good. I can't remember but do people laminate the doors only and the side and inside are of the usual white?

    How about handles or no?

Mint green Kitchenaid would really be loud against the orange!

But not burnt orange... Will a loud orange like this be 不耐看 in the long run?

My bottom cabinet sides and frame are white tofu tiles. Only top cabinet, one full height shelf/cabinet and another full height cabinet require side laminate, for which I'd probably choose same colour as the door laminate.

Not sure about handles at this point of time... Will have to see the handle designs carpenter offers. Otherwise I may do without a handle also.

  11. Oops just googled and yes, cool white seems to be between white and warm white.

Edit: oops I'm confused. Some says cool white is between, some say its higher K than daylight. :bangwall:

Bear in mind different brands' bulbs colour temperature (that 'k') differs slightly too, at least that's what I heard. I like cool white but the problem is cool white bulbs are not readily available at supermarket, hardware stores and even homefix diy, but only available at light shops. So next time if *touch wood* light bulb spoil, have to go all the way to light shop to buy. :dunno:

  12. Very fulfilling day! :sport-smiley-003: Went Crestar and 3 laminate factories all in one morning! Then headed to Philips warehouse sales and Mayer one in the afternoon. Resisted buying Kitchenaid cos I still prefer mint green which is not available at the warehouse sale. My loots for today - 3 ceiling fans, 1 iron and 1 rice cooker! :dancingqueen:

We haven't met the carpenter yet but I thought it might be better to choose my preferred laminate first as some may affect my design of the cabinets. Took many laminate samples!

    laminateassorted_zps92b19727.jpg

Now headache over my kitchen laminate selection... They don't have burnt orange so considering glossy orange. Should we go for two different orange tones - darker one on bottom cabinet and lighter one on top cabinet? Something like this:

  13. Hi Bleucheeze,

So not worried about scratches, dents, stains etc..?? I wanted to choose solid also but everything all over that it is very easy to scratch , stain etc... I decided not to use Solid Surface. Trying to figure out if there is anything better or I have no choice but to use Quartz. =)

I heard there is no seams / grouts if your counter top is not very long for Quartz.

My kitchentop is L-shape, so there will definitely be a grout line. Not worried about stains and all... in fact, the only thing i am concerned about is scratches. but since mine is white, i hope scratches won't be that obvious? If I rem correctly, you can also choose to polish your solid surface a few years down the road if you think the scratches are unbearable. :sport-smiley-004:

  14. wah! google queen! yes i think it's that one. the catalogue book is in one of the cartons so it will take me some time to find it (like i took hours to find my remote control today).

    Thanks ment0s!

I'm looking for a burnt orange laminate but i think it's a tad hard to find.. may consider yellow instead. Anyone who happens to spot burnt orange laminate please let me know! Thanks!! :sport-smiley-004:

edit: I think this SNS may have what I'm looking for...hmmm...but must see the real sample piece.

  15. Hi everyone,

Can I ask what counter tops did you'll use and why?

If I want some light colors like white what choice do I have ?

    Appreciate your views and opinions.

    Thank You.

I am also using white. I think for white, basically there are two materials to choose from, solid surface and quartz. I didn't like quartz cos there will be an obvious "grout" line, so it came down to just solid surface for me. There are various price points for solid surface, I suppose different price = different quality? I chose Samsung brand solid surface, price is in between normal solid surface and quartz. Erm.... but don't ask me how much cos I don't remember :P
