  1. Haha! Cafe curtains usually just refer to half curtains that only cover half or less of the window I think. Any type of cloth is possible
  2. Seems like we're entering the last stages of our renovation. Left with carpentry installation, window works and decking of our balcony, then it'll be washing and moving stuff in. It's a headache trying to race against time because of the upcoming CNY holiday. A few places have stopped taking in orders. 1. Our main gate. We are changing our main gate, but will have to wait till 20 Feb for the new gate to arrive because of CNY. 2. Curtains. Went down to T____ W_____ Curtains on Sunday after reading a t-blog that mentioned that the place was quite "scandinavian". The outlook of the shop was interesting as the walls were tiled with craftbricks. The auntie was extremely busy, and when we called to let her know we wanted to pop by, she even said she was thinking of asking us not to come because she's busy rushing out orders and isn't taking any new orders until after CNY We told her we could wait till after CNY and went down anyway. Picked out some cloth, left our windows' measurements with her and asked her if we could get a rough quotation before we bring our IDs down to confirm the cloth. She said to call her back the next day, but when we did, she said she hadn't had time to calculate. Called her back again today and she still hasn't had time to calculate. Asked her how long later should we call back to get our quote, and she replied, "I can't tell, very busy." Asked her for an idea of how long we'd have to wait, and she said, "Maybe 1 or 2 days later." I get that she's busy, and at least she spoke to us politely and not curtly, but how difficult is it to calculate the rough cost of making curtains for us Would have loved to work with her, but we don't really appreciate feeling like our business doesn't matter to her. Guess we may end up going with our ID's contact after all (our ID asked their curtain maker and they apparently can deliver the curtains before CNY). Our cafe curtains for the study's window are giving us a headache as well. No traditional curtain maker seems willing to make them. Still have to purchase our TVs, washing machine, laundry solutions and bed frames. Racing against time!
  3. All the best with your HDB approvals! Ours gave us a headache. Good luck with your renovation when it starts! And looking forward to reading your t-blog!
  4. Good looking place! Love the use of wood for countertops and super like your yellow main door!
  5. Any saving helps! If you cut a little here and there, it all adds up, even if it's not a huge difference. Good luck for your reno! Have you started your own t-blog? The colors closest to the natural wood tone, of course!
  6. After scouring multiple shops and looking at countless armchairs, we finally found an armchair to our liking! Living room armchair, found. 1 more armchair (for mom's bedroom) to go! The boy found his chair for the study/work table. He's into industrial stuff (while I'm into wood), so this metal chair makes him happy. We got it in white to match my chair for the study/work table. My chair for the study/work table! Fell in love with it when I first saw it in the catalogue.
  7. Met the IDs in their studio to pick out the material for variation order. First hiccup: Our Accoya wood decking apparently got held up at customs in Thailand, with no idea when the shipment will be let through to Singapore. No more Accoya for us then. ID picked out another material for our balcony - Evorich outdoor decking. Picked out a new main gate for the house. The laminate for our study table. To contrast with our IKEA legs. Confirmed the colors for our bedroom/study. Confirmed the color for one wall in the living room - Gentle Tide. Carpentry goes up tomorrow! ID says that the carpenter should take about a week to complete the installation, so hopefully more things to take pictures of next week!
  8. Does using the same color for the bathrooms cut down costs? Didn't know! Good luck with your renovation!
  9. We were quoted a lump sum of 3k. Not exactly the best price I think. Our ID is slightly on the higher side for each item, that's how they earn their designer fee I guess.
  10. It's the usual EM stairs, we didn't change it except to overlay parquet strips and plaster smooth the risers. I guess you could consider my mom elderly? She can still climb stairs right now, so we'll work something out when she can't Our renovation is currently at the 90 mark, but that doesn't include variation orders. Think it'll most likely go up to the 96 mark (the sum includes everything except off-the-shelf furniture) Just make sure you do up what's important now. And the areas that would cause too much trouble to renovate later (can't imagine living in a house while renovations go on around), unless you have another place you can stay in during your 2nd round of renovations. For us, to help ourselves feel better about wiping out our savings, we're planning to leave furnishings that we have no urgent need for till later. Move in with what we have first and see what else is needed to make the place feel like home. The ongoing sales make it a little hard to keep to that resolution though Good luck with yours!
  11. Cool! Is your place under renovations currently? PM-ed you, by the way
  12. Thank you Miss Razzberrie more pictures coming up when I get down to uploading them! Carpentry delivered tomorrow and should be installed and complete by next week!
  13. Your house is lovely, but you've heard enough of that to last. What I want to say is, your photo angles are gorgeous!
  14. If I'm not mistaken, hansgrohe is the scarier one, grohe is actually more affordable in comparison. When we went shopping for our bathrooms, we popped by the hansgrohe store around robertson quay area and the prices were We got grohe in the end at a store that our ID brought us to. They usually have packages (mixer+rainshower head+removable hand shower head+tap) so it was much cheaper. 1 set was around $700-800.
  15. No worries! We're using it as our kitchen backsplash though. The savings were too good to resist (the usual subway tile we were going to use was $16/tile while this tile, because we got in on sale, was $6/tile). All the best with your renovation!
  16. No worries! Hope you find what you want unfortunately, I'm not at my place because it's still under renovation. you can go here for a picture. it's a panoramic shot, so just zoom in.
  17. You do have a t-blog! I didn't see it until today Hope your renovations are going well! Aiming to move in before CNY?
  18. Yup, the surface is not completely flat because the tile is slightly raised in the middle, with bevelled edges. Looks something like this - http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OtqZCLV3LCU/Tf5mUeHwDvI/AAAAAAAAA4w/eCpK4Q22gR0/s1600/IMG_3522.JPG (that's not a picture of the tiles I'm using, but it looks quite similar). The only thing is, its dimensions are larger than your usual subway tile. You can take a look at the website - http://www.rice-fields.com/nostalgic.html The tile is called Pun White (at least I think so because it's the only subway tile Rice seems to have on the website). I don't have any contact though. My ID found the tile and recommended it to me because it was on sale in Rice end of last year.
  19. Rice Fields has it. But in slightly bigger dimensions than the usual subway tile.
  20. Interesting! So you're going to hang the poles parallel to the window outside the first floor bathroom? We're planning to hang our poles perpendicular to the window, so I guess we didn't think of the length for hanging indoors (parallel to the window). But you're quite right! I see it now that you've mentioned it. Good idea for your house! Our ventilation opening is going to be quite big (I think), so I guess that's why it can fit the louvred panes. But if it's going to be an opening, then yah, no need to do window panel. More pictures of the process please!
  21. Coincidentally, today the ID called to let us know that the window maker suggested we have louvred frosted glass panes instead of a single frosted glass panel on top of the bathroom door for level 1's bathroom. He suggested it for ventilation purposes! It was only then that we thought about it and realized the bathroom on the first floor doesn't have a window. You are much wiser than us
  22. Totally agree with you. I'm not the sort who likes moving, so I knew from the start when we were looking for our own place that I'd want to make it exactly the way I need it to be so that I'd be happy living in it. I simply can't imagine staying in a place that I won't be happy with! So I think you and your wife made a great decision We also hacked many walls in the house, made our master bedroom bigger and sealed the walkway to the common bathroom upstairs so it becomes the new master bedroom bathroom. If it's to our liking and we're totally happy living in it, who cares about resale value (especially since we're not planning to move. New houses are so tiny!)
