  1. Yah. We met quite a few IDs, and it was more or less all around 80-90 (there were some who told us 30-50, but it sounded too good to be true. plus they gave zero input during the discussion). And all these IDs don't include electrical and air-con in the quotation. Our ID was the only one who included everything in the quotation (except for the air-con, which they gave us separately on another sheet of paper for us to see and use to find other providers before we decide who we want to engage for air-con). All the best with yours! Start your t-blog soon!
  2. Have you decided on your ID yet? We are also a couple moving into our EM with our dog (and cat, guinea pigs and hamsters)! Be prepared to get most quotations around 70-90k. Unless you're doing minimal changes or going straight to a contractor, then I don't know
  3. Yah, tell me about it We're consoling ourselves with the thought that we're not going to move anymore, so we'll do up the place and live in it for good. Unless we get chased out
  4. You mean the wall that has the metal towel rack in your picture? Are you only hacking part of it? Because if you hack the whole thing, it will lead you to the master bedroom bathroom right? From your floorplan, it looks like you enlarged the master bedroom's bathroom to create a bigger vanity! Interesting If that's the case, then yeah, I guess there won't be space anywhere else for you to have a bigger vanity in the common bathroom upstairs, except for that space below the sink. If you want, you could buy something off the shelf and place it along the wall on the other side of the toilet bowl? Or if you need more storage, you can consider having mirrored cabinets on the wall above the sink? Just throwing out random ideas. Quite noob
  5. Yup! I'm trying to console/deceive myself that it's not too bad because it includes electrical and aircon. Hahaha. Come to think of it, it won't be 93. Haven't added the blum stuff. So it's around 94
  6. Hahaha, on the bright side, bread's not too bad la. Can spread nutella/peanut butter/jam Hope your renovation goes smoothly! Then it'll all be worth it
  7. Eh? That wall can be hacked? If you hack it, doesn't it lead straight to the master bedroom? Are we talking about the same wall? Or maybe our EM lay-outs are different. Hahaha
  8. Thanks Happy Ang! And yeah, tell me about it. Our savings will be completely wiped out. Totally going to just eat bread for the next year or so after renovation
  9. We didn't shift the toilet position for our common toilet on level 2, but for a bigger vanity, we are building another vanity on the wall on your left when you first enter the common toilet, in addition to the small vanity that we have under the sink. So we essentially have a wet vanity and dry vanity, if that makes sense, haha
  10. Yeah, understand. It can be quite daunting thinking of engaging a contractor, especially if you're planning to do a lot. At least that was the same consideration for us, haha All the best with your renovation!
  11. We get perspective drawings, so I guess it's not that difficult to visualize? But then again, we haven't seen any results yet, since renovations just started. Hopefully, we don't get any (unpleasant) surprises! If you're using a FSM, does having an ID still help? From what I understand, if you follow the FSM closely, there will be quite a lot of restrictions for the design?
  12. Hello Our renovation's final quote... I think it will eventually come up to about 93k. It's 90k now, not inclusive of air-con and some other small things. Don't have any 3Ds to show because my ID draws and colors details by hand, and will only release the drawings after the renovation is done. I hate it when there are standstills. Can imagine what you must be feeling. All the best with your renovation and hope everything flows smoothly!
  13. Finally! HDB replies and says that hacking of the last wall is approved. No need for PE endorsement, yay! Looks like it really does help to call in ourselves to make some noise also helps that our ID worked fast and submitted the detailed drawings for the technical department the day they asked for it. May everything continue smoothly!
  14. Congrats! Your turn to start renovation soon Happy 2013!
  15. Another public holiday means a chance to go down to the place to take a look (because we always feel like we're in the way if we go on days when there are workers) Imagine our surprise when we found workers in the house. On a public holiday! The boy went down on Sunday to take a look without me, and he said there were also workers doing electrical work. I should be happy that they're working hard on our place, but I feel so bad knowing they're working when they should be resting New walls are up. Balcony is looking good! New master bedroom, debris cleared. Panels of leaves in the toilets removed, ready for new mosaic tiles. May everything continue to go smoothly! Lights shopping this weekend with the designers.
  16. Yah, we pushed. Still waiting for response. Oh well All the best with your renovation when it starts!
  17. We got a King sized bed. $3849 after discount. The good thing is we can just place a refundable deposit to secure the price with Robinson. If u change ur mind, just cancel and get the deposit back.
  18. Agreed! I spent most of my life sleeping on a very low-end mattress, so I have no idea what's good and what's not. I only know that I felt a stark difference being on a tempur bed, so we caved in and got ourselves a tempur from robinsons. The service was good, so you can consider if you have a bigger budget allocated for the mattresses! We got a tempur for my mom too, but she decided on a Simmons in the end as she still preferred mattresses with springs.
  19. Not yet! He insisted on us getting a PE endorsement, so we called in ourselves and asked for a reason why we have to when it's just a simple installing of windows. We were eventually directed to his supervisor, who is now consulting the technical department for us. Our ID is currently rushing them for an answer. Starting renovation right after you get your keys?
  20. Got our beds from Robinsons Centrepoint a few days ago after a few rounds of testing mattresses in various stores. Robinsons is having a Christmas/End of the Year sale, with discounts off all their mattresses. Most places we went to required us to have the beds delivered before the end of the year to get a discount. Robinsons was willing to hold the beds until our place is ready. Put down a $200 deposit for two beds to secure the prices. Shall continue looking around for other good deals (if any) before it's time to make our payment in full, since the salesperson informed us that the deposit is fully refundable if we do change our minds. Sounded like a good deal to us. The kids are going to enjoy the new beds!
  21. Some of the local collectors charge really exorbitant prices for their "antiques"! But your collection must be lovely
  22. Popping by to take a look at your t-blog! Love your thermos flasks!
