  1. haha ("selling hubby backside") good that you've found a contractor for your renovation! hope it all goes smoothly! when do you start?
  2. as long as the contractor doesn't add on a lot of other things along the way, it should be okay right? you're not doing anything to the staircase?
  3. Our ID informed us that ours will take 3 months. They're a small firm, so they don't have the same extensive resources as bigger ones I guess. We had most other places telling us it'd take 2 months, so I guess that's the average.
  4. Haha, same view, but different place. We're close in terms of location I guess! One train station's difference, haha.
  5. Your layout is almost identical to mine! Except for the balcony shape. Haha Congrats! Hope your renovation is going well!
  6. This question is not entirely useful, and may seem a little retarded, but.. Anyone knows of a nice way to reject other IDs? Hahaha
  7. Not exactly sure yet, but the ID is going to get back to us with more accurate designs after today's measurement. But we gave a firm budget, and they promised to work with it. We'll see where that takes us Yup, hdb loan! Our COV is less than 10% of the purchase price, so we have to pay within 10 days of our first appointment. And there's something about whether you're engaging your own lawyer or using hdb's legal services.
  8. Your 2nd appointment is almost exactly a month away! ours is on the swimming pool side, but not very near, I think. Can't wait to get started on the designing and drawings!
  9. We picked Artist Room in the end. Hope it goes well!
  10. First appointment done, COV and fees paid, measurements of the house complete, deposit with ID made. Second appointment set on 20 December. Yay! May the renovation process go well. Fingers crossed.
  11. Play around with shades! Your house will be very unique
  12. The 100k ones are mostly engaging IDs. Contractors should charge considerably less..
  13. Must your blue be dark blue? Or as long as it belongs to the blue family? if you can play around with shades of blue, you can opt for the much lighter and pastel blues! Those wldn't make the house too dark, and adds character too
  14. My new place is in yishun My reno looks like it's going to be around 90-100k for an overhaul. That includes electrical rewiring, plumbing and installation charges. Your window, grilles and gate quote seems alright (but that's just comparing to mine). Mine is about $3k, powder-coated aluminum, no color limitation, the whole house. Some are casement and those facing the corridor are sliding. So far, my cost for hacking, waterproofing and labor are mostly lump sums. The per foot run is only displayed for carpentry, rebuilding of walls, tiles, doors and all that. Hope this helps!
  15. Seems like all EM renovations (overhauls) are about that number eh! Makes me feel better Great idea to knock down the parapet at the stairs, by the way. I was inspired by your idea and went to a few IDs with the same idea. But unfortunately, it would make the cost go up even more. Cannot take it anymore How did you manage to do everything without PE endorsement? Read that you negotiated with HDB, but isn't the settling of permit and all that done by the ID?
  16. Gathering some ideas for the toilets that we decided not to overlay (can't hack because of recent toilet upgrading). Our tiles are the same blue. Want to keep it clean and simple like in this picture, with minimal built-ins. Need to find a way to incorporate our shoe/outerwear/bag area into the apartment. This would be ideal. Trying to figure out what tiles (color-wise) would be best for the first floor. White? Darker floor to give the place more character?
  17. We have the same type of view from the balcony! Good luck with the renovation!
  18. Looks like we're going through a similar process. Haha May both our renos go smoothly!
