He said you are very daring to experience with colours. The blue sofa and the red brick wall goes very well and they don't steal each other's limelight.

DAY 28 (31 Oct 12) A lot of things happening today !! We arrange to do the measurement for our curtain and wooden blinds and K brought the carpenter up and we managed to finalised the carpentry! Except for the laying of veneer flooring on Friday, we will begin our long wait for the carpentry to be up. Anyway, in the middle of our chit chatting. The shower screens came !! The Shower Screen in the MBR The Shower Screen in Common Toilet Very good and skilled workmanship.

DAY 27 (30 Oct 12) The Starmex System 4 38k Aircon is up! 18K BTU Blower in the Living Room. We chose this location because it is between the Living Space and the Kitchen. 9k BTU Blower in the MBR. The Blowers in Bed room 2 & 3 are the same but we didn't bother to hide the trunkings. A Close Up Shot of the Finishing at the Compressor. Well wrapped up all the way to the joint and Neat.

Hi Redmoonlight, My veneer is approximately 7mm thick. The stuffs are coming tomorrow and overlaying on Friday. I will go and measure it again and PM you the thickness okay. It just need a even ground to do it but do check with the supplier if they have any special requirement for the skirting. That is if you have any brickwall etc... I understand from my contractor that some company are very particular about it so do check. Bigbull

All the best in your renovation. Hope to see more pics!

Hi Bleucheeze, Thank you for your kind words. Veneer floor is a engineered wood flooring. Here's the description from wiki: "Veneer floors use a thin layer of wood with over a core that is commonly a composite wood product". Bigbull

Day 26 (29 Oct 12) I left work early and decided to go and take a look at the house. And bumped into K while he was going for his rounds !! The house is now cleaned up and a worker came to install the windows for the service yard and the grills for the whole house. The Living Room The Service Yard The rest of the rooms are quite standard so I didn't bothered to take any pictures. My wife and I hate window grills but for the safety of our children, we decided to install it. Just thought I post a picture of my kids doing the Spider Monkey in Ben10... K left the paint of our choice too. Dulex All Sail White... There seems to be quite some works this week so hopefully I find some time to take some pics.

Hi Bleucheeze, That's a yummy nick! Yes, K renovated Pinkwhale and Paloma's homes. Veneer flooring for my Living room, Walkway and Kitchen is $2.8k. You can use it to overlay on any existing tiles but do take note that the thickness matters. If you use the thin ones, you might get the overlayed tiles outline on your veneer over time. Hope it helps! Bigbull

Hi Justinyeo, We are going for mystic grey so as to give a contrast against our parquet floor. I think walnut will make the room look really dark too. Thanks. I hope all will go well and fast fast too. Now the first coat of paint is done and the debris removed. Hopefully can see more after this long weekend. All the best in your renovation too!

Hi Gohlex, About a week. If he is not so pack, probably a few days.
-
Hi Justinyeo, K is quite a friendly guy although he doesn't look one. haha. Feel free to ask him for his opinion. For my WIW in MBR, I have approximately 70cm or slightly more between the cabinets. And yes, you are right about the tight spacing beside the Queen size bed if you choose to put it in the center of the remaining space. Thus, my wife and I decided to shift the bed all the way to the WIW and have a small bedside table between the bed and the window. For the common toilet area, its everything you mentioned. My renovation is slowing down because of my last minute insertion of the overlaying of tiles in the Common toilet. Hopefully, the shower screens can be up by next week. I will post a picture of it when its up so you can see. Remind him when you see him ya. Best wishes in your reno. Bigbull

Hi Redmoonlight, I am not really into it but I think Veneer has a layer of wood (or other substitute) to give it its texture and look. You can see 3ser's reply earlier in this thread. Do you mean Vinyl? I think it is like a thick plastic sheet that is glued on the floor. Not commonly seen in Singapore. The only time I see it is in the Swedish home toilets as it is water resistant and not so cold to step on (compared to tiles) during the winter period. Bigbull

Hi Gohlex, All Scandinavian homes has timber flooring for practical reasons and their love of nature gave its unique style. If you are going strictly to scandi styles, I suppose the flooring does matter. Personally, i suppose you can adapt the style with a little bit of modern or industrial look depending on your budget and taste. At the end of the day, I think you and wife must like the home is what matters most. Maybe you can visit Paloma and Pinkwhale's T-blogs. They retain their floor tiles and personally, I think their home is gorgeous! Bigbull

Hi 3ser, Thanks for the valuable information. I will be trying out a few types of lighting before I decide on it.
-
Hi 3ser, Thanks for the photos. That is so nice of you! Reminds me of the flooring in my apartment when I am staying in Sweden. Lovely! The veneer flooring in the first photo seems slightly darker than mine. Any code number to share? In the second photo, are you using white lights? Bigbull

Hi Gohlex, Veneer flooring is slightly more expensive than laminates. Honestly, I don't quite know much about them except the following: 1. Veneer flooring has the natural look and feel of wood compared to laminated (They are imprinted on it and tend to be very glossy). 2. When you stepped on veneer flooring, it doesn't gives you the squeaking sound unlike the laminates. Some says that the squeaking sound of the laminates will go away after awhile but it doesn't seems like it coz I have a brother in law who has been staying in his house for almost 5 years now and I still hears the squeak sound when I walked on it. If you do decided on veneer flooring, do take note that there are the thin ones as well as the thick ones. My contractor recommended using the thick one coz if we overlay on our current tiles, we might see the tiles outline on the veneer flooring after some time. Hope this helps. Bigbull

The following are the Veneer flooring my wife short-listed. We kinda prefer the one on top.

Day 14 (17 Oct 12) My wife and I went up to our place to take a look at the sample veneer flooring that K left for us and we were surprised to see a worker still working !! The Common Toilet with Subway Tiles. The worker will be coming back up tomorrow to finish up the toilet and hopefully after that, a lot of the other works can begin. Just thought I mention something about K's work. He was talking to me about re-doing the cement creed wall at the MBR toilet and I was confused, thinking if something has happened. He told me the texture wasn't right and I went to compare it with the kitchen cement creed wall and realised that it is really not as nice. Kudos to K for his quality of work !!

Day 13 (16 Oct 12) Today the Citygas came and installed the gas pipings for my Stove, Heater and Dryer. The Citygas contractor was very nice to accomodate my request to try to make the pipings to be as neat as possible. We ran into some problem because the builders did not cater a hole for the gas pipe to run through to the SY. They drilled a hole for me and solve the problem straightaway. It will be less visible when the SY windows are up. Kudos to them! The heater and dryer connection. Later in the afternoon, K managed to hijack the Carpenter to our place! The following is a sneek preview of what the carpentry may be like. Behold, the carpenter's graffiti on the wall: The Shoe Cabinet The Kitchen The WIW Hope to see the real thing soon...
