  1. For better security and sound insulation as well, get laminated glass. Because of the film holding all of the glass together, the intruder will basically have to kick the entire piece of glass down before he gains access. Muilti point locking on your doors are also a good thing, called espag locks. Single point locks are easy to disable. Sapphire windows managed to provide all of this, albeit a slightly higher price because it is an imported product from europe.
  2. Should have added some info one which glass type is useful for what kind of insulation, like heat or sound. Most people don't know these performances. For example, if we talk about heat insulation, the solar film on a single glazed glass does not perform anywhere near a double glazed of configuration 6-12-6 (6mm glass - 12mm air - 6mm glass). We are talking about 3-4 times better insulation for using double glazed as compared to single glazed with any kind of film
  3. Hi guys, Actually double glazing is more for heat/thermal insulation. If you want good sound proofing, you should consider laminated glass. I don't know why there is a misconception that it is better for sound proofing. It does cut down sound, but that's not the most effective way, plus it is more expensive than laminated glass! Coupled with uPVC windows, it can have a STC (sound transmission class) rating of about 36 dB, which one of the highest you can achieve locally. Just saw this thread or I would have definitely advised against double glazed for sound proofing.
