  1. Newbie question: What does those red and blue (tape) markers in the toilet denotes? I can see it in your photos, and in others' as well.

The only logical thing I can think of is that it denotes hot and cold water pipe - but we don't usually have heated storage tank installed, so... :dunno:

  2. 1 more trend I noticed (it was 2 but I forgot what's the 2nd one zz )... Most, if not all have cove lighting - be it living, bedroom or both.

1st thing I can think of is the cleaning - How much cleaning will we need to do!

  3. ong check with u...in HT pre out is it call zone huh ???

It should read as pre-out, not zone. Zone are like zoning where you can add in additional speakers and you can pipe music specifically to that Zone.

  4. You are using which service provider?

I got no idea, I never did mine. I didn't heard about it will slack, my friend did it. Pretty decent.

Viewquest. Ex, but well, seems to be better than the 3 telcos.

So you also did not have window grills? Hmm... Wonder if we can do without it too - my unit will be rather high floor - but don't know if there is any "batman" or "spiderman" that can get in leh.

  5. ya...and both routers must be configured to use different wireless channels to prevent conflict...

Of course. Er, I thought that was pointed out before by ong (or was it you?) so don't have to make that point again. :bleah:

Erm.. is this advice for me?

Anyway, will take a picture of the db box hopefully later and post up here. Thanks guys!

Er... I think so, you looking at 2 wireless routers/AP, right?

  6. Hmm... Depending on the ONT - if it is also a router, it would be better to setup your 2 other routers as a past-through so that the ONT router is the one that assigns the IP addresses and you would not have issues with IP addresses clashing when devices are connected to the 2 routers.

  7. I chose AMP for its quality. Other brands are decent, slightly cheaper though, just my personal preference. They are not over-priced if from local distributor. But if via retailed, so much expensive, 100% markup at least. Let me go and dig it, will forward to you soon.

Even if you are not going into analog system. Run it for future proof, no harm since your place does not equiped with flooring. Haha...whether it is 5.0/5.1, purely personal, can alwways add in at later date. Yes, that is right, for NAS, not just Video contents, can do picture & music contents. Enjoy your upcoming holidays!

100% markup!?!? Ok, how you managed to get from distro - you got load of spare cables?!!! :notti: More reading stuff, ha ha.

True, now that you have mentioned it - should at least plan for such possibilities, so that if it does becomes real, got the location/stuff for it. More things to plan, but got the time. So, ok, will keep that in mind.

    Thanks!

  8. Yes Yes, run a dedicated power line, if possible 2 for your HT system :good: 1 for Digital system & 1 for Analog system.

Nowadays, HT needs internet access to be SMART mah, can utlise the online features. :notti: As for my Popcorn, I can stream contents easily if my NASs are located elsewhere. Never stream contents on wireless, not as good as wired though. Not sure whether you are into media player :dunno:

I know someone stream via wireless, Dragonnite lo. But her WIFI coverage at her place is good, not much blockage.

Analog system!??! LOL! Where got $$$ for that after the HT! Now with the looming reno cost as well, need to save save save (in order not to disrupt my annual holiday plans due to this)!

HT already busted my budget because I decided to go with the BP7006 floorstanders instead of my original plan of 5 small speakers with a sub. Since the BP7006 has a small sub in their floorstanders, I got 2 small sub in replacement of that 1 big sub - Heck if I really want, I could also connect to the center speaker's small sub to make it 3 small subs! However, I am not too into those big "thumping till my heart also goes with it" bass, as long as the entire sound is good, with enough bass when needed in the movies or concert I am happy. I guess I am one of those that is not totally poisoned by XP people. :bleah:

Not into streaming... But maybe if I hooked up correctly, I could pull photos to be viewed on TV directly from NAS instead.

Hmmm... One more thing to research when I get back. Now busy tying up knots so that I can happily go for my holiday that is in 3 days time.

  9. Don't remembered listing them down. I want AMP, so I bought my Cat6 cables, 1/2 gangs network Cat6 plugs & faceplates from local AMP distributor.

The quote on laying networking cables? Per point should be $90-$100 excluding materials. $100 for patch panel.

Why AMP? Good price value for the materials used in that cable?

Actually was asking about the whole house, not just network.

  10. Talking abt running cables, since you have insisted on your list of materials, did you put the list here? Don't remember reading that list - can share?

Oh, possible to share your quote from your ID/contractor, if not here, can PM me?

More reading material to go through once my holidays are over...

  11. Back to your concerns, your project comes with flooring? If no, quite easy to plan. However, since you are into HT, better to plan how you want to maximise your networking synergy in your new place.

Nope, it's standard, so no flooring done in living and bedrooms (so it's good to go with concealing the LAN cables in the ground!). Kitchen/Service yard/Shelter comes with glazed porcelain tiles (why?! Isn't it slippery when wet?!), bathroom with ceramic tiles, walls for those areas are ceramic tiles - according to the sales brochure.

Yeah, which is why I am asking around about the points and concealment of wiring and how network cables can be laid, although I do have time on my side since it will still be a while before I even smell it! Even electricians would ask, "Huh? Why need to lay LAN cables? Only private properties need lah!" (That's what they heard when they first request for it during their reno, but got them to insist on getting that done. But I forgot to remind them to make sure it's not running parallel to the power lines! LOL)

But what has HT got to do with network - You talking about those network HDD players like your Popcorn?

I should also see how I can conceal the wires for the surround speakers (if it is possible at all).

  12. I am currently using powerline at my current place and it sucks! When someone on/off a switch, you likely lose some data package, so I get problems with iTunes downloads of podcast or apps - have to restart them everytime. When another pc using the line at the same time, I can get disconnection from the router. So these are some of the issues you might face using this method.

No issues when i was on cable/adsl as i had pts in my room, so modem/routers were in my room. The current setup started when they put the fibre TP in living room, and ONT has to be in the living room near the TP. Since I am not going lay LAN cables here anytime soon, it's the best solution... Which is why LAN pts will be part of the plan in the new place and hence those questions on how best to lay it.
