  1. My contribution to this thread. When I recall more gestures, I will post again. My DH travels weekly. In and out at least 2 Asian countries a week. His flight bookings are 2-3 pages long each time. As a frequent traveller, he never wastes time to check in his luggage. And he likes to be the last few to hop onto the aircraft. Sometimes when he gets too busy, he forgets to do his internet check in to secure his seat and also print out his boarding pass. I will make a point to remember for him and do it on his behalf. On longer flights where he can use the "Book the Cook" privilege on SQ flights, I will choose something that I know he will enjoy alot. Even though my DH says I don't have to pick him up from the airport, I will peel myself from bed and zoom to the airport to pick him up (unless the flight arrives in some ungodly hour). The time in the car, we can catch up on what's happening to each other. Friday is our movie night. Sometimes he chooses the movie. Sometimes I choose. And we always share a popcorn even though I think it's fattening. I will then work out at the gym extra hard.
  2. Ahem. I know of someone who got paid a bonus that is equal to 5 years of his annual salary.
  3. ^^ That is so true. IM is not for everyone. The stress, living out of suitcase, company before self .... It takes a superior calibre to be in IM. Certainly not a place for dreamers.
  4. Because of a recent debate about husband working late hours which digressed to how one trusts his/her spouse, I am therefore interested to know what are the little gestures that you do, to show your spouse that he/she is the most important person in your life. We live in a materialistic world. So I am not keen to hear stories about who bought the biggest bling, took you to the most posh restaurants etc. I am interested to hear real, heart-felt stories. I choose to start this thread as inspiration to all the young people who will be getting married, to serve as a reminder that you need to constantly let your Significant Other know how much he/she means to you. If you constantly stick around people who do not have pure hearts, your heart will forever not be pure. Drum roll please ......
  5. I don't see why not. For the roller blind in the living room, if it happens to be the window/balcony door near the TV, you might want to consider the perforated type of material; where it cuts down the glare so you watch telly but still have some light. (perforated curtains: if it's bright outside, you can see what's outside but people outside can't see what's inside) Black out curtains will make the whole living room very dark. If the window/balcony door is wide, you will need 2 or 3 pieces of roller blinds. Then there will be a gap in-between these blinds. You must be ok with these gaps. As for bedroom windows .... same thing. Light can penetrate into the room between the gaps of the roller blinds if your window opening is wide.
  6. snowiee, my Simmons Backcare Ultimate is a Queen size and it's my basic Beautyrest that is the King size. I remember the former to be 3K. It's been too long, so I can't remember well. If you really want to know, do call Taka bedding department to check out. The Backcare Ultimate has a very thick plush layer right on the top. Luxurious is what I would describe it as. I am very tempted to change my King size mattress but I think I will have to wait a bit more. I have so much to do for our new home this year already, so this prospective purchase can wait.
  7. Blanco's granite sinks are relatively new in the market. So I don't think many homeowners have installed these sinks in their new homes. They come with a big price tag, so it's also not everyone's cup of tea. The sinks look very good to say the least.
  8. I have seen an advertisement for a company that does wall to wall type of photos. Very elegant touch. The name of the company is Letchford.
  9. Very strange. Well, I actually own a Brandt and can vouch that you are not compelled to use the hot water feature. So I have no idea what the sales people are talking about.
  10. You can always select COLD water to wash your clothes. So you won't need use the water heater at all. With a hot water feature, you can use HOT water when you need to remove stubborn stains on cotton or bed sheets etc. Strange that the sales person discouraged you. I hope he is not a F&P sales person! It's their newest model. The 7 kg load one, that's advertised with the Brandt Teddy Bear giveaway. The thing that swung me to buy this model is that they have a 30min quick wash option (not every washing machine has this). Most of the time, our clothes are not that dirty anyway. Unless you choose to re-wear your clothes a few times before throwing it into the laundry. I was advised against the 2 in 1's by the SA in Harvey Norman. He said that it's usually the dryer that becomes out of order first, and if it's beyond repair, you will have to buy a brand new set altogether. One thing ... we live in the tropics. Clothes are best dried naturally in the sunlight. We have the sun and breeze that temperate countries do not. Dryers were made for them. It puzzles me why the dryer is so popular these days. Drying clothes in the dryer shrinks them by the way.
  11. A few months ago, my 8 year old Electrolux front load washing machine went kaput. When I was searching for a replacement, I thought maybe I should have a look at the legendery Miele honeycomb (patented) front load machine. It's more than 3K. I could do part with good money for this. So instead, I bought a Brandt instead and am happy with it. So far so good. Very quiet. What I like about it is that it does have the handwash feature, as well as various speeds for spin dry.
  12. That's exactly what I did 7 years ago. Using the Taka card to buy during the Members' 3 day sale. But I don't recall if it was 20% discount. It might have been 10-15% discount.
  13. The list price is $619. So you buy more from Hoe Kee, ask for more discount.
  14. I just bought 2 WCs from Hoe Kee. American Standard. The model is called Acacia. 1 piece. Very nice. I bought this for my mother's house when I helped her in her renovation last year. I looked at the American Standard catalogue and was again drawn to the Acacia. So I decided to get 2! (My current home has Laufen WCs and I don't think highly of them at all). The SA informed me that these days, the distance from the wall to the centre of the hole is 6". Only in old houses/apartments that the distance is further out from the wall at 12". I bought the PVC offset just in case anyway. This model of WC by the way, is flexible enough to be used for both 6" and 12" as it has the right sized fittings for either. When you order the WC, you just need to specify what you need.
  15. It's exclusive at Takashimaya. So if you'd not been to Taka to see this mattress, then I can safely conclude you'd not experienced this mattress at all. There is one variation that comes with a luxurious pillow top layer, like the Westin's Heavenly Bed. The older we become, the firmer the mattress we should get. This is an important consideration. With our constant seating in front of our PCs, and bad posture forming over time, we will all eventually need a back care kind of mattress. So might as well invest in a superb one from the start. Some mattresses are too hard for comfort. I bought my Backcare Ultimate only because it's very, very comfortable. And worth every single cent.
  16. I'm a Simmons fan. Simmons or nothing. I have both the Beautyrest mattress as well as the Backcare Ultimate. Both are 7 years old. If I were to buy a mattress again, it'll be Simmons once more. For better comfort sleep, I highly recommend the Backcare Ultimate. It's patented 5 zoned-sleep supports the curve of your body, and hence gives you perfect comfort. If you are in the market for a mattress, I think you need to look beyond the superficial plushness of the mattress. You aren't sleeping on the mattress directly as you will surely be using bedsheets. It is the structure of the mattress that matters the most. If want plush, go buy a bedding set that has 1000 thread counts. Or at least Egyptian cotton for the luxurious feel against your skin. 17. An existing property is 10+ years old and has concealed aircon piping. Would you consider hacking and replacing the existing concealed aircon piping? Regardless of changing fancoil positions? What are the advantages and disadvantages of re-doing the concealed aircon piping? Thanks in advance.
  18. Xinyi, I saw your "Before" and "After" pictures of your wardrobe and I must congratulate you on a fantastic job there. It looks like the carpenter did a fab job reskinning the carcass of your wardrobe. These aluminium sliding doors are such an in thing these days!
  19. ^^ Ben, is your door hand painted, spray painted to laminated?
  20. ^^ Now that you mentioned it, Karbell's service can be rather horrendous. The first time I went in, the ladies were the least interested or eager to serve me. But after I let my guard now and chatted with them, they warmed up. I wondered who had to please whom! I actually never saw the House of Fabric open, during the times I was there. You know, don't mind these people. Their prices are cheaper than what you have to pay outside. These places are not places you expect customer service. It's for people who know exactly what they want, order and get out of there. No strings attached. I have a suggestion for you >> go back to the bar/pub that you took that picture. Or call them to ask to speak with the manager, and ask for the contact. This was what I did when I saw some children's furniture at United Square's Globetrotter's family restaurant, and that was how I got the little sofa settees for my children's room.
  21. Thank you. Any contact would be great so I can explore the possibilities, although these are not what I am looking for. I only wish to paste these sticker/film at random spots on the glass. Not over the whole glass.
  22. Sorry, zirhk. Both places do have the string curtains though. I'd to review the pictures you posted again to see what you're actually looking for! One of the business associates of Karbell told me just 2 days ago, that the normal string curtains are very popular these days, made popular with the glistening ones you posted. And today, when I was at Tung Lok Signature at VivoCity, I saw the white ones used in their private rooms.
  23. zirhk, looks like you are the only one who can see the woods for the trees and can relate to what I am driving at. I am not going to flog a dead horse. I wrote it as tongue in cheek but I also meant what I said. It's my last post in this thread. The 80-20 mantra ... is very few words ... is very worrying. It is not what love it, let alone marriage. And honestly, no woman is any smarter and comes out the winner with 80-20.
  24. My husband and I have decided to install a huge frameless glass door divinding our kitchen and living room. And I am 100% sure someone will walk right into it. For precaution, we will be using tempered glass and on top of that, put 3M protective film for our children's sake. I want to do one more thing, which is to put some (temporary) decorative stickers on this glass door until such a time that my children are old enough. i.e for a couple of years. The stickers I want need to be classy. I don't want colourful opague ones. I think I will be very happy finding semi see through film ones. (for the lack of better description) Thanks in advance.
