  1. Stay firm and insist on making the last payment only when everything is rectified. He asked me for the last payment and said the same stuff which I did not agree to. He gave in eventually. That said, after I made the last payment, I did ask him to help me touch up some stuff and I haven't heard from him since more than 2 weeks ago. Thankfully it's only a minor touch up.
  2. For the doors, I also got nyatoh and I got the same catalog as u. I believe the catalog colours are not accurate. Thankfully I was there when they install my bedroom doors. I was able to choose between a few shades of brown. It looks different because, according to them, the wood itself is already coloured and when painted, if will look different. That said, we should have been informed earlier. For the "grout", mine is also like that... Sigh..
  3. Hi, I would like to find out too. Anyone that knows how?
  4. Hmm, I was quoted 160 for some china quartz by Alan. Not sure if that's a mistake. On the contract he stated iquartz (160psf), but installation is another brand...
  5. I was using a file to smoother it a little and then sandpaper to sand it. For the holes, I think they were using grey 洋灰 (plaster).
  6. For mine, because my parents were down monitoring closely, the extend of the damage done was sort of controlled. Most mistakes were rectified. Until now I am still asking him to make rectifications. I have given up on asking him to make smooth some surfaces already. Better do it on my own than to beg him. I have a hole mended with cement in though. He claims it's HDB but it clearly chipped by his workers as all defects were rectified by hdb after I reported them. That hole is hard to mend now with all the cabinets up... Sigh......
  7. well said =) I too had my fair share of nonsense from Alan. That said, both my wife and I made it a point to right decisions already made. One of those is engaging Alan. At the end of the day, I thought we should not let him affect any relationships. He has already done enough damage to whatsoever. That said, my reno just concluded and thankfully major issues were rectified (my tiles were laid wrongly!). There are still some chipped tiles here and there which I hope he will rectifying it soon. In summary ... Does he rectify errors / poor workmanship ? Yes, but not without having to go through lengthy "discussions". Will I engage him in the future ? No.
  8. Before we sign... he told me the comments you see on renotalk are "misunderstandings". So many people cannot be that wrong ... He even said, he will pop by every now and then to check. I never met him since I passed him the second payment. Sigh, and he has been making quite a few empty promises ever since ... Given how hands on I was with my project, I thought I can be a main con already. Those considering, think more than 3 times. That said, his carpenter is very detailed, but credits go to the carpenter. Not him.
  9. thanks for the advice =) My electrical was pretty straight forward and I was there when they did the work. So thankfully nothing went really wrong. One thing though, one of them had the cheek to ask me... whether to carry on installing the heater switch when the light for the heater switch was spoilt. The switch wasn't even installed and changing it simply means unscrewing the connectors and using a new one. It was changed eventually, but I dont understand why he asked in the first place.
  10. i will be having my plumbing done by alan's workers this week. will make sure I pay extra attention to the connections ... mind sharing any other stuff to look out for? I must admit i'm getting worried and maybe paranoid about his quality. sigh ...
  11. inthechouse, mainly the dimensions and measurements. For example, 1m became 1.1m base, cabinet height 34" became 35" even though this was written on paper and on the wall, and even drawn on the floor. I asked to leave 32" for walkway, became 29". Actually to be honest, I'm not pissed off at getting these things wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. As long as it is rectified properly, I'm cool with it. However, it is the attitude that he gave (makes me feel like he is more of a customer), and even telling us off saying we kept having changes (when he got the details wrong), that irks me. Not to mention the numerous things forgotten. Sigh. Don't know how many more surprises I'm gonna get.
  12. Sigh... I've been holding back not wanting to post but I have been getting quite a bit of "surprises" from Alan and felt like grumbling a little ... Numerous mistakes was made by him and now he is saying we keep asking him to rectify and change. The last straw came when he asked me to look for my own plumber to do the job ... Big sigh My first post and it's such comments ...
