Post Renovation - Slidearm and HDB Bomb Shelter Walk-In Wardrobe

Yet another surprise Blog Entry lol! :D
Happy New Year 2018 Everyone, how has the new year been for all of you?

Very Sorry, I know some folks have been waiting for this blog entry for some time to see how I convert the
existing HDB Bomb Shelter into a Walk-In Wardrobe, because after all, I don’t have a wardrobe in my bedroom.

So without further delay, here it is.

In addition to the Walk-In Wardrobe Installation, I’ll also be including the Slide-Arm Door Holder installation process because its also done by the same company.

    ============================================================================================

    Slide-Arm
So way back in Oct 2017, if you’ve been following this blog, I shortlisted this company “Smart-Home” and
engaged them to install this Door Holder called “Slide-Arm” and also to install a Walk-In Wardrobe for my HDB Bomb Shelter.

After Renovations was completed, I went ahead and made my appointment with Joe from Smart-Home, and his installer Matthew visited my place.

Below are the pictures of how the installation went.
Installation of Slide-Arm took only about 5-10mins and was completed really quickly. :)

    img_20171122_144748.jpg?w=276&h=494img_20171122_144852.jpg?w=314&h=562&zoomimg_20171122_144951.jpg?w=314&h=562&zoom

Slide-Arm nicely aligned and installed. :)

    img_20171122_152324.jpg?w=1680

Working beautifully today even after 1 month+ after installation.
An elegant and nice solution for holding the door open.

    20180116_164641.jpg?w=1680

In addition to installing Slide-Arm, Installer Matthew also took measurements of my HDB Bomb Shelter
to prep for the fabrication and installation of my Walk-In Wardrobe which took place at a later date.
(He actually came 2 times to do measuring because Smart-Home lost the initial measurements he did and he had to come again.)

    img_20171122_150429.jpg?w=276&h=494img_20171122_150436.jpg?w=314&h=562&zoomimg_20171122_150525.jpg?w=314&h=562&zoom

    ============================================================================================

    Walk-In Wardrobe

It took a couple of weeks for the Pole Wardrobe to be fabricated and once again, Installer is Matthew lol. :D
Below are the pictures of how it went.

This was the line drawing of agar agar how its supposed to look like once completed.

    linedrawing.jpg

Installation of Pole-Wardrobe was significantly longer, and took a couple of hours.

    img_20171214_131125.jpg?w=463&h=img_20171214_140658.jpg?w=314&h=&zoom=2

This is the final result after installation. :D

I really liked how it looks, as it fits in beautifully in my HDB Bomb Shelter.
There are ample areas to hang clothes, luggages, and even 2 drawers. :D

Sorry I wish I own those special 360 degrees ball camera because these
photos can’t really convey how the thing looks like, I hope you get a vague idea though.

Got Matthew to help me leave a little space at the side to be able to store a small foldable trolley.
    20180116_170651.jpg?w=1680

The other side of the HDB Bomb Shelter Wall holds my ladder and ironing board.
    20180116_170726.jpg?w=1680

Even has space at a corner to hold a Toyogo Plastic Shoe Rack.
(Yes, I also kiasu until buy a small fire-extinguisher from Lazada for peace of mind lah) :P
    20180116_170743.jpg?w=1680

Another thing of note, I got this hanging metal shelving from Lazada, and found that it can hang perfectly on the HDB Bomb Shelter door.
No drilling or adhesive required, just simple construction to fit the pieces and simply hang it on bomb shelter door.

While it does obstruct the Bomb Shelter door to not be able to close completely,
I gain extra storage to hang my bags and more barang barang on it. :yeah:

Highly recommended and is a good buy IMO. As of this post, it costs only $14.90

    ============================================================================================

    Final Verdict

    Total Costs:
Slide-Arm Door Holder – $50 (including delivery and installation)
Pole Wardrobe – $650 (including delivery and installation)

Personally, I’m very happy with how Slide-Arm and Pole Wardrobe eventually turned out.
They fit in nicely with my apartment’s aesthetics, looks good and completely functional. :D

However, I find dealing with Smart-Home to be a very time-consuming process.
I dunno if they are short of manpower or what, but Joe, the person whom I’ve been
liasing with takes so long to reply to my Whatsapp messages.

At one time, he even told me he lost the measurements of my HDB Bomb Shelter
and had to get Matthew to come up my place a 2nd time to do re-measuring. Ughhh.

I was especially worried when I paid my deposit, and he took his sweet time
replying to make appointment for Pole-Wardrobe installation. Double Ugghh.

Matthew the installer on the other hand was very good with his work. :)
He is very friendly, and when he is working, you can tell he is very experienced with what he is doing.
It was a joy having him as an installer.

Honestly, I don’t know whether I should recommend Smart-Home or not.
Price wise is pretty good for me personally, and they did do a good job eventually.

I just don’t like vendors who take their own sweet time in replying to messages especially when
you’ve paid money already. (Maybe I was spoilt by my ID Jason who replied to my enquiries promptly lol)

If you engage Smart-Home, I hope you get a better response service from them,
but do take note that Joe will take a very long time to respond to your messages.

    ============================================================================================

And so we come to the end of this Blog Entry.
Not much more entries to add from what I see other then the conclusion of my IKEA Curtain guide lol.

Sorry it took so long, very nua to do blogging now that my renovation is already completed lol. :P
Other then my curtain guide, are there anything else you’d like me to do a blog entry for?

    Please do let me know.
Until then, see you in my next Blog Entry! :yeah:

  3. Hi ,

Are they really a difference between HDB Registered Renovation Contractors and non Registered ?

I dont believe that HDB Registered will delivery a good result and vice versa , anyone experience good non Registered contractor ?

And some how non Registered seems slightly cheaper . Kindly share and for discussion .

    Thanks

    Shower Screen

We did not engage E to install our shower screen as we managed to get it at a good price from a glass contractor. Workmanship is acceptable but one of the wall tile in our master toilet crack when they drill the wall to install the door. :(

    Hi ,

But does it look "flat" on the wall ?

    Thanks

Quartz and KompacPlus are both durable, resilient to wear and tear after years of heavy use. Both of the products are also heat and scratch resistant, easy to clean and maintain. Hence, both quartz and KompacPlus are suitable for wet or dry kitchen, vanity tops, bar counters, and many more.

However, there are a few differences between both the materials. iQuartz have a thickness of 15mm, while KompacPlus have a thickness of only 6mm. Besides that, KompacPlus can have wood kind of design, but quartz can only have granite or marble kind of design.

Both of these beautifully crafted panels have low flammability and do not disintegrate, thus making it the perfect choice for your kitchen.

Feel free to contact Stone Amperor at (+65) 67107168 for more information or queries.

    Hi jojo ,

So Stone Amperor does Kitchen Cabinet too ?

    Thanks

Decided to write up a short blog on our renovation journey, hoping that it will help future home-owners with their reno process!

First things first, contractors or interior designers?

Probably the ever-famous topic for every one. Of course, contractors were our initial plan. Why? Advise from friends & relatives for being famously cheap (cheaper than ID that is). I guess that's one of the main reasons why people opt for contractors instead.

As it was our first house, we didn't really have a concept/theme (which is a problem if we took contractors) other than the usual Scandinavian/Minimalist settings which I prefer not to have because everyone is doing it (don't have concept still want to be different). After probably months of debate (i think?), finally we decided to just go for an ID. Problems we faced? "Why so expensive, you all still take?" "Contractors also can do the exact same thing, but at a cheaper price" "Do you know that some IDs cannot be trusted?" I guess the very reason why we chose ID over contractors was not only because we didn't have a concept, but we were also worried about the liaising issues. Having contractors meant that, we have to liaise with them directly and telling them specifically what we want/do not want. So it still boils down to whether home-owners know what they REALLY want. (very obvious we don't, hence the choice of ID)

After the first obstacle was done, next came the interesting/time-consuming part; finding an Interior Designer!

We didn't really meet a lot of IDs mainly because we don't want to give ourselves too much choices to choose from. For me and my husband, being comfortable with the ID and s/he is able to understand what we really want is the essence of the whole process (of course also making sure that the firm is trustworthy, find reviews!). Finding the cheapest deal is definitely on everyone's list but then again, what's the catch? Make sure to run through the entire quotation(s) point by point, and please do not hesitate to raise any questions (we are talking about a huge sum here). End of the day, cheap doesn't entirely means good.

We met about 4 IDs? End up, we decided to hand the trophy to Jade from The Local INN.terior!

She was the first designer that we met. Quirky, genuine and very confident in what she delivers. She was very prompt in following up too, despite us not signing any deals with her yet and mind you, she was having a leisure trip at that point of time. Other than her quirkiness & funny laughter, probably one of the biggest reason we chose her was because,  not only we felt that whatever she designed/proposed was aligned to what we wanted but she would also input her own designs for our references (if not what's the point of having an ID right?). In a nutshell, she's someone that we can talk cock to but yet serious at the right time.

Proceeded to signing the treaty with her, and down to Hafary for tiles shopping!

    IMG_4161.JPG.dec850cb16aabdf4504546663f1a31f5.JPG

Toilet tiles with Kompacplus & Carpentry Laminate!

    Of course we went together with Jade, and spent a good 2-3 hours walking around choosing the best tiles for our nest! Never did she once rushed to choose the tiles or attempt to brush us off by just choosing those "common never go wrong" tiles. Hanging out with her was never an issue, below is an example of what she posted;

    IMG_4809.PNG.a320ac7e8b5c5e120d647b2ee1f4e31f.PNG

Asked us to pose with the tiles so she's able to visualise how it will look like (where to find this type of ID!)

What comes after tiles shopping? Everyone's favourite; 3D Drawings!

It was amazeballssssss!! :wub:  Even though these were the final set of 3D drawings where she conceptualise the actual tiles and materials to  the drawings , prior to it Jade had already sent us a draft 3D drawings of our house.

Fast forward to taking our keys and house renovation is already on the way (it's only less than 2 months!). Got myself some 'before' pictures of our house! Slipped our mind to snap pictures of the house before any work is done :( But yay to emoticons!

Master bathroom! (i thought the toilet was big.. :()

If any of you homeowners opted for Vinyl flooring, you guys might have to go through cement screeding. However, homeowners are now required to pay for this service from HDB. Luckily, our appeal was successful as we applied for the flat before this rule was implemented. My advice? PLEASE APPEAL! Or at least try even if you apply the flat after they implemented the rule. I have to admit that ID charges a skyrocket high price for this service, hence Jade told us to send in our appeal letter upon getting our keys. She was the one that told us about HDB's new implementation and also advise us on when/how to send the appeal letter to HDB! Honestly, why wouldn't I entrust my house to her?

Although our appeal was successful, but we were required to wait almost 8 weeks for their contractors to schedule a timing for the cement screed. Thus we thought that nothing could be done or at least until the screeding was done, but sometimes Jade seems to be more.. excited/worried about the progression of the house than us. In a short span of 2 weeks or 2.5 max, she did almost everything she could, like; hacking, air-con piping, electrical points, false ceilings, tiling for master bathroom and kitchen! (kudos to her workers too) Both our families were equally shocked too. Spell impressive and efficiency:yeah:

    Ready for some 'after' works?

Mortar base done up nicely in our service yard!

What I really really love about Jade is, she's always making sure that we were kept informed of all the works that were on-going or any hiccups along the way. She even introduced us to an app, Trello. Which allows her to put in the entire schedule of the renovation process, what are we supposed to purchase (even state which is urgent) and what were done already. And yes, she did all these manually for every client of hers (not just us). That's what everyone likes right? Black & white all stated very clearly, and knowing what were the next steps going forward.

Currently that's all I have to offer! Hope it helps someone!

Will come back with more pictures once the screed & more works are done!
