  5. Hi anyone here can recommend me to a good window grille contractor?
  6. Well we should use the Peak's prices as a gauge in the future. That will provide a minimum base for our blocks.
  7. Yalor my kapok army brooks shoes were the first to be stolen..aiyo i think the guy only stole shoes and not slippers and also not women's shoes. I thought it usually happened at night but didnt expect it to be stolen so early in the morning. I thought it might be the cleaner as he would be cleaning the corridors around that time. But cant say much cos no evidence. Either that, it has to be some neighbours' kids. Dont think it's someone not staying in our blocks.
  8. Anyone had their shoes stolen? 3 pairs of my shoes were stolen in the past 2 months. The latest incident happened this morning when i left my working shoes outside for just 10mins. When I opened the door again to leave for work, they were gone! Was so pissed that i went to make a police report. Asked the uncle which cleans our block daily whether he has seen anyone with extra pair of shoes but he said he didnt.
  9. Wah so fast? When I discussed the roller blind issue with my neighbour, also have the same issue as you..ie when to roll up..when to roll down? if roll down, no sun light, no wind..etc etc. also dont want to spoil relations, that's why in the end decide not to do it. there is no warranty period for the blinds? what's that orange splatter on the walls? dont tell me it's the grey matter..
  10. Read this in the New Paper Sunday. Quite useful tips! GRANNY'S GOOD OLD TIPS Savings, with a 'pinch of salt' TIGHTENING your belt for the rough times ahead? Don't dismiss these useful tips from our grandparents' time as old-fashioned. By Maureen Koh 03 November 2008 TIGHTENING your belt for the rough times ahead? Don't dismiss these useful tips from our grandparents' time as old-fashioned. The New Paper on Sunday picks three items off the kitchen rack and tries out some of the best tips around. 'Go green' with salt, vinegar and baking soda (bicarbonate of soda). They don't cost much and are environmentally friendly. 1. VINEGAR (WHITE) A little vinegar added to the rinse water removes water spots in your glasses and makes them sparkle. Having friends over and they smoke? Fill some party bowls with vinegar and it gets rid of the cigarette smoke. You can make the bowls look pretty by adding some coloured stones in them. To remove waterline marks, pour two cups of white vinegar in the toilet bowl and leave it overnight. Coffee stains in your cup or thermos bottle? Mix a quarter vinegar to three-quarters warm water, cover and shake to clean. To add sparkle to clean windows or mirrors, mix a cup of vinegar to a litre of water. Put the solution in a spray bottle and spray liberally over the window or mirror. Dry with crumpled newspapers for a streak-free window or mirror. Use a damp sponge soaked in white vinegar to wash the shower screen, then rinse. It removes all the soap scum and gives the screens a great shine. 2. SALT A dash of salt adds flavour to your coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Wipe greasy pans or pots with a paper towel and salt before washing. If you drop a whole egg on the floor, pour salt all over the egg, let it sit for awhile, then use a dustpan. The egg comes right up without the mess. Remove coffee stains from aluminium coffee pots or porcelain coffee cups by rubbing a little salt on the stain. Soak toothbrushes in salt water before using them - they last longer. To heal the ulcer in your mouth, gargle some mildly salted water. Works great as a mouthwash too. (Do not do this if you suffer from high blood pressure.) Dab salt on wine-stained fabric and leave for about 30 minutes before rinsing it in cold water. Clean your greens in salt water to remove dirt residual easily. Pour salt, followed by scalding hot water, down your kitchen drains every week to keep drains fresh and unclogged. Use salt and lemon juice to remove mildew from your home. To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new. 3. BAKING SODA (BICARBONATE OF SODA) Too stressed or exhausted? Add a cup of baking soda to your bath. It'll help to calm you down and soothe your nerves. Run out of toothpaste? Moisten your toothbrush and put baking powder on it to clean your teeth and freshen your breath. Use a cloth placed in warm water and several tablespoons of baking powder for the final round of your kitchen cleaning. Everything will smell fresher. Baking soda is a good deodoriser. If your carpet smells stale, sprinkle baking soda all over and leave for about 30 minutes before vacuuming. Put baking soda in a salt shaker and keep near your shoes. Before putting the shoes away, freshen them by sprinkling baking soda in them. This is especially effective for sneakers and running shoes.
  11. Looks good, Shivan! I decide not to ask HDB to put up the roller blinds as i dont agree with the Terms and conditions stated in their letter.
  12. Hi all Not sure whether any of you were at home in the morning today. The NEA guys came around our block at 10+ to check my flat for potential mosquito breeding grounds. Reason is someone complain of lots of mosquitoes recently. The guy checked the areas around the kitchen sink, toilet and aircon latch. hope you all remember to clear any stale water from your plants and pails if any. Also some interesting things i read on a boring Tuesday. Neighbour from **** (hope we dont have such neighbours). The Stomper is actually my friend and i really pity him. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singapor...nt.jsp?id=40055 Another one happening at the McDonalds at Toa Payoh Central. The guy in the picture actually posted comments to challenge the Stomper. Wonder what happens to our youths today. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singapor...nt.jsp?id=40145
  13. Another crap answer. What's the oil price at Dec 2007? Is it lower or higher than current oil price of USD 90/barrel? For diesel to drop to $1.19, this would probably require oil price to drop to USD 70/barrel. Arabic nations and Nigeria will never allow the oil price to hit that level. Oil companies would not want it to go to USD 70 as well as their profit margins will be affected. We should not let set it at $1.19 in the first place. Also note the timing when the surcharge is implemented. It is implemented when oil hits a record US$146 then! I guess SingPower is just taking a leaf from Comfortdelgro when they hike the tariffs as well.
  14. I think it makes sense to use Starhub Digital Voice (where it is free till end of 2008) If not, can switch to Skype phone or use mobile phone. Those staying in older HDB flats will be affected as they will be with Singtel fixed line for decades which makes it nearly impossible to switch operators now. Companies who use phones as well will also be impacted severely. For me, it doesnt make much sense to use fixed line phones and pay the monthly subscriptions when my spouse and I are not at home more than 50% of the time every day. This is an amazing time for a GLC to increase their prices when the recession clouds are just above us. It's 18 years since they last raise the charges, why not wait for another 2 years where things will get better? Will their bottomline be so severely affected? Sidenote: yeah i think we should have more parking lots for season-parking holders. If want to park after 9.30pm , i think can only park on carpark floor 4B onwards. Not funny when you are driving with a headache.
  15. More bad karma for the electricity guys when you read this announcement by HK CLP Power (which supplies almost all of HK Island's electricity. https://www.clpgroup.com/Media/CurRel/news/...02.aspx?lang=en Headline: CLP Power cuts electricity tariffs by 3% wef 1 Oct 2008. Seriously, for those in 'power' in RC in this forum. I hope you will tell the top that they are not doing a good job at all. Or are you afraid to tell because they have already gave you your dream home by bypassing the balloting system?
