  1. Let me share too... I have yet to do any renovation but I have asked some contractors and ID. This is the first quote that I receive for kitchen cabinets and so I share lar... To fabricate and install 20ft kitchen cabinet. using post foam work top using solid timber door carcasses using laminate finishing with ABS trimming Free choice of selecting alloy designer handle To supply and install 2 set of frosted glass panels of glass door To supply and install 1 set of cutlery tray $1488 To fabricate and install additional 5.5ft kitchen cabinet from above package. $550 Cheap or expensive?
  2. Thanks for the advice.... haiz.... we are trying to cut down on certain things so that it can fit into the budget.....
  3. Thought of sharing my experiences with two ID that I met up with. First, CI. He very sales person, everything also okay.... budget can can... no problem.... cheap cheap achievable..... My hubby thinks that not sure he can anot.... But he ID leh, end up is what we want, we tell him then he say can can.... not much ideas from him..... 2nd, II She is very considerate... even to the smallest details... tell us that budget not possible... give some ideas.... try to input her own ideas.... tell us that something that we want, cannot do... must improvise...... Generally, my hubby likes the 2nd one better... but well, have to wait for her quote..... In the mean time, I have to study for my exams then meet up with a few more contractors and IDs for quotations.... hubby flying off for work soon so well, its me and me only doing the major sourcing.... haha.... Powerful me... hopefully, I dun end up being swayed into more nicer things... hehe.... Hanni06, Not sure leh, my hubby likes the idea of the down lights and L Box but he still insist on his two main ceiling lights and ceiling fan with light in the centre.... hmm.... I think the reason is that he scared he cannot see me when we get old lar.... haha..... BRIGHT BRIGHT that SURE CAN SEE......hehehe
  4. Though I am not looking for any flats now but a friend of mine just bought a four room flat.... Valuation at only 265k and paid 22k cash... well, though it seems alot but it is fully renovated and she do not have to fork out any cash for renovation. Corner unit, mid floor and only less than 10 minutes walk from bukit gombak MRT...... Take more effort to search and I am sure can find de.... In fact, she just bought only on the may day holiday only leh
  5. Hi pinkdewy, I know about false ceiling, the ID did say but she also mentioned that the ceiling will be lower then I decide not to... L box will not need to lower the whole ceiling mar... haiz..... think the ID more efficent than me.... suggest the things, he can take it more... haha....
  6. aiya... my hubby reading too... he give me those " you know what i mean smile" but well, since he promised, then I am going to have my glass doors... hehe.... any of you done epoxy painting for the walls? I really curious to know... cos one ID actually suggested that to me..... I think my hubby "fell in love" with the designer sia... keep telling me that if price competitive, he prefer to use her to do the renovation rather than contractors... faintz..... My hubby now tell me, " you know, her idea of L-Box is quite good leh... i like spotlights too... but just that I also want ceiling lights and fan...." faintz... haha.... I think budget bursting...... the ex owner actually used the balcony area as a rest and relax area last time... put those picnic table and chairs and a punching bag there for the hubby to train.... haha.... for me, i converting it to become my hubby work area.... cruel to put him under sunlight... haha... I told him, at most, i provide curtains lor...
  7. Skywolf, Yup right. will probably use that as the children room if we have any... hehe.... thinking far to the future... The plus point of that room, it already has a nice walk in wardrobe done by the previous owner... hehe... but we be installing aircon so think its okay bah.... hanni06, Hubby refused to let either parents take the study room cos its the smallest... he has the belief of respecting the elder... haha... Haiz... he is the eldest son mar... then my parents favoured him so much more than my elder sister's husband so they want to stay with us.... so I LL lor.... what can I say? Yup... since now after talking to IDs, have some good idea on what we want... maybe i will ask a few contractors for their quotations then I decide......
  8. I totally agree... told my hubby le... he says I can have it unless i promised that if ever it breaks, I must clean it up... which of course is yes lor... haha.....
  9. The toilets are the killer... my hubby hates the separating wall and dun like the position of our toilet bowl and basins... So the floor of the toilet will need hacking and re-lay and hack off the wall and design abit.... so the toilets is a killer le. but no choice... I hate the wall separater too... haha... the toilet suddenly seems small with the separater... when the ID says that actually our toilet is twice as big as others... haha.... She even commented that the wall cannot hack off the whole thing... probably half cos need to protect the sewage pipes.. haha... so I suggested that make it look as though as one side is purely shower area.... like when we go hotels, they have a door then shower area.... She suggested glass doors... but my hubby keep saying glass will break... he wants plastic shower curtains.... haiz...... he scared.... Then the kitchen... the wall with window, we also intend to hack the top part away... then the whole kitchen becomes much brighter le... she suggested lar... but we worried the hanging of clothes... confused... haiz....
  10. hello.. here are some pics of my place which we took during 1st viewing... The view of Woodlands MRT from my place... The present Kitchen.. The present MBR.. Haiz.... hanni06, I cannot hack away any rooms... cos my parents want to move in with us... then my hubby is the eldest son so must always be prepared that his parents might move into our place..... Left with only one extra bedroom and decide to leave it for children if we have any.... Hmm... yesterday met with an ID... they suggested epoxy painting to cover my ugly kitchen and toilets wall tiles.... Then new kitchen cabinets.... Then they suggested L-Box for our living room... but my hubby hates the idea of using down lights only... he wants to have ceiling lights and ceiling fan... so that will be bright and windy.....so well, not sure who is right.....??? Then probably a dream bar counter... my hubby wants in the living room.... A WIW.... hopefully... cos it will make my master bedroom smaller... still thinking... Then a total change for both toilets.... and a study area for my hubby..... probably the master bedroom balcony.... haha... Everybody say I very cruel..... house so big but only give him balcony to work.... hehe.....
  11. Only been to them... so far, havent really source..... Havent got quotation but is curious to know if they are good... anybody used them?
  12. Hi, Went into inside living today.... Just curious if anybody used them before? any comments?
  13. Tofler, softballer, Well, honestly, I bought this flat at a very affordable price.... hehe... we bought just before the sudden rise in property prices... probably a week before... the news of the crazy prices in HDB... So we paid 270k for our flat....then after all the grant of 40k, well, you calculate? hehe.... Skywolf, Love your idea.... but well, my hubby only gave me 20k budget and I need to get the whole renovation up.... so think I must work within the budget... haiz..... Btw, I finally managed to convince my hubby to go with me to a ID today... They suggested epoxy painting to my kitchen and toilet wall tiles... isit good?
  14. I cannot hack any rooms... cos my hubby is the eldest son and has promised to let his parents stay over when they want... My parents also want to stay with us... so we are only left with one extra room and decide to make use of that room for children in case we have any..... I was thinking of hacking the non pillar part wall of the storeroom... then that will only be part of the WIW... the other part will be from the door of the masterbed room... so in all it will be the size of two storeroom.... But my master bedroom will become smaller lor... so really still thinking if it is wise.......
  15. We bought a Jumbo in woodlands last year.... so its quite big... about 133 sqm... but the issue is that we are only planning our wedding end of this year and therefore, I am starting to research about renovation now!!! Not sure how much to plan? When to start? what exactly to do (though I have some plans)...... Haiz.... people say, decide on the design theme... for me, I want it to look big and spacious.... and bright.... haha.... My hubby says.... so big le still want it to look bigger? Any body got some good contractors, good IDs or good ideas to contribute? haha... my hubby not free so leaving the renovation wholely to me... I think if I am the one to meet the renovators, sure kena chopped de... Haiz....
  16. Thanks.... hmm.... I hope to find out more and ask for quotes... but now preparing for exams and everything is just guessing.... haiz.... Also need to know how long to do all these? haiz.......
  17. city plaza? where is that? see lar... I lady... not too sure about all these... but got to learn... haha... cos he not free....
  18. Hi BunBun, realised from your information that you bought your furnitures from JB. I am considering to go JB to buy furnitures too. Is it cheaper? Where can we go to get furnitures and is there any installment plans?
  19. Great!!! happy to know that Ikea is more expensive so if I get from outside contractors then should be cheaper... hehe hmm... think you are right.... I guess wall covering is not a good idea... wanted to save money for my hubby mar.... I laying over wall tiles actually. I dun want to touch the floor, unless no choice, like the toilets... cos if reposition then they got to hack the floor to redo the piping? Then I probably go for the tiles that the contractor have bought in bulk previously... I think its cheaper like that.... Not really very picky as long as not slippery.... My hubby not free to handle the renovation and letting me take charge completely... so thinking and thinking how to do it nicely and yet not so expensive..... cos my budget is only about 20k.......
  20. Thanks mattmatt for your reply..... We are kind of cash tight so I think I will lay over. How much to lay over? the range if I take the cheaper ones? How about wall covering? those wall papers for bathrooms and kitchens? anybody used that before? isit lasting? I heard that the material is called Vinyl. I went to check online. It is not too expensive to buy but the issue is that if I buy online, the contractor or ID may do a shabby job cos I dun let them earn enough...... As for toilets, think if hack away that wall, will need to change positioning of my toilet bowls and basins, so have to hack away floor tiles too... correct? So is it true that hacking away a wall is the same cost as hacking 3? Lastly, is ikea more expensive than outside? I wonder they quote me 5.5k, is it reasonable?
  21. Hi, Feeling very troubled by the $ issue and would like to know how much should I put aside. My hubby and I bought a 5A unit but actually, it is a Jumbo, (2 3-room flat merged into one by the government) so we have a big area. 133 We are planning the following changes. have a bar counter in the living room. take down all the existing cornices Redo some wiring Kitchen Take down all the cabinets Build kitchen cabinets. (BTW, my kitchen floor tiles are blue in colour, what colour should I look for my cabinets? Poor with colours) I hate my kitchen wall tiles so I need to know Any of you kind souls used wall coverings? lay over the tiles? or hack? Which is the cheapest and more effective way? Bathrooms My two bathrooms are those old type and so have a stupid wall in the centre. My husband hates it and want it hack off. I read somewhere that hacking of one wall is the same cost as hacking of several walls. Is it true? I need to hack off the walls of the bathrooms and redo it again. And as the kitchen wall tiles and toilet wall tiles is the same set, need to either do wall covering, layover or hack? still not sure. Can kindly advise? anybody did similiar things? Master bedroom I have a balcony at my master bedroom and intend to change it into a study area for my hubby to work. So got to custom make a table and cabinet. I wish to have a walk in wardrobe. So hope to hack off part of the storeroom wall, seal up its orginal door and make it part of my WIW. If I go for contractor instead of ID. would it cost alot too? I am getting worried. I went Ikea and they quote me 5.5k for my kitchen cabinets alone..... Kindly advise? Any advice would be appreciated.
