Hi Downlight is a way of fixing the light to the ceiling. Normally, use when you have false ceiling. Halogen light is a type of light bulb. For downlight, you can install halogen, compact fluorescent light bulb or traditional incandlescent bulb. I think more people install false ceiling, it is not suitable to install normal circular lamp fixture, it will make the ceiling look lower. Most people prefer halogen bulbs because the light looks closer to sunlight colour. For dining area, it is great. However, for reading purpose it is a bit to yellowish. forkie 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 Downlights is light fittings normally on false ceiling. Pendent lights are those hanging down from the ceiling. Halogen lights are the type of lightbulbs used. Pretty popular in the past coz of the warm white color which make ur hse cosy. However Halogen does take in quite a amt of energy which is why pple tends to go for PLC energy saving lights.
