Hall Pillar Ideas - Plz Suggest

Hi All,

We just bought a flat and want to demolish the wall dividing the hall but not sure if we will get the permit from HDB to do so due to pillar / beam. Hence, if the permit is not approved we decided to demolish the wall but keep the pillar.. Any ideas on how to make this look good?

for any hacking of wall need to get HDB approval..

go your ground floor at the same area see if there is any pillar lo. if at the same spot the pillar is there most prob you cannot hack away.

but by the looks of it, you should not have any issues hacking that away.

spots that cannot be hack are all those in black and those surrounding the house la..

Here are two ideas,

1. Make it into a statement. Perhaps you might like to thicken the pillar a bit, and paint it in an outstanding colour, or clad it in a material like wood veneer.

Over here, the stairs are done in such a manner that they become a statement piece in the house.

2. Hide it.

I have a feeling that behind the picture on the middle section of the wall is a pillar. You could extend the pillar a little such that it becomes a narrow wall, which you can use to hang pictures etc.

From floorplan, no problem to hack away the 2 walls which make up the study room, no pillar or beam at the centre. You are referring to the pillar near store room?. This pillar on left after entrance? It is well located ! It is the "eastern green dragon" in term of FS which has the "stabilising" function.

The folyer is rather short with big "throat".

Morning sun from 2300mm(10ft) windows, orientation correct?. You can't put TV set against wall of study room, because of rm 2 & rm 3 = sofa no backing. Sofa best to put against wall, but.....quite odd.... may be put up some wooden pillars as divider somewhere in the hall.....

The 2500mm (7.6ft) may be can put a 1.6/1.8 meter long dinning table with a mirror on the wall, may need to extend the pillar slighly longer towards the hall. Put photo frame or pictures...
