Dear All,

I've signed a contract with one of the ID firm. Was told to sign first and pay a deposit (kitchen package) so as to capture the GST waiver and free gifts.

After signing the contract. It takes quite a while before the ID get back to us for a meet up.

After viewing the quotation it was way over our budget (almost 20K).

Thus we went around asking for quotation from other ID as most ID could give us a lower quote and close to our budget.

We got no choice but to chose the ID which could provide us with the lowest quote that's closest to our budget.

But the initial ID that quoted us the sky high price was not willing to return us the deposit. The service they provided was also far from satisfactory.

Example: Arranged meet up but the ID was not around resulted us making the trip from west to east.

For the requote after we said that the quotation was too high, the ID actually did stood us up 3 times again.

Anyone had the same experience before or could provide us with any advice as what we could do to get back our deposit.

Thank you.

Why in the first place will u sign up without even having to look at the quotation yet. In this case, just ask the ID to do up the kitchen package that it offer will do. The rest look for another ID or contractor to do it. :yamseng:

Did it say the deposit would be refundable in the 1st place? If not, I think it is tough...

But since its probably a gone case, just try ur luck.. I suggest tt u tok to the BOSS and DWELL on those 2 points u mentioned abt the ID (wasting ur time n made a wasted trip and the ID stood u up 3 times). Tell them tt for those reasons, there is no way u could trust the ID or the company to do ur reno anymore and therefore u insist on the deposit to be refunded and u will rest the case. Tell them it is for the good of both parties that u dont use them as u r already experiencing so much problem at this stage and u cant imagine how bad it could be during the reno stage.

If these dont work. How much is the deposit? Perhaps u can INSIST from the boss tt u will juz do the minimum works to use up the deposit like hacking, plastering etc..

Do not give in to any pressure from the contractors. Dont place deposit UNLESS you are sure that u will use that contractor OR unless it is refundable.

Hello,

Check on the T&C behind or below the contract / quotation that you've signed. If the piece of paper did not mention that "Deposits placed are non-refundable", then maybe you will have a case.

If it is stated clearly, then you may not have it, becox I would assume that you signed the contract under normal circumstances (eg: under no undue influence, not drunk, and whatsoever).

Last question, you mentioned that the quote ramped beyond your budget. Did they revise the quote. If they have revised it, you're not oblige to accept the new quote, and rely on the old quote that you had signed initially.

My 2 cents worth. Good luck ... =)

Btw, will you mind sharing with us the ID Firm / contractor that had done such a thing on you?

This is so that others can avoid engaging such an unethical ID Firm / contractor.

Thanks a bunch mate ... :)
