Which Color Led Suitable For Reading/study?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, those of you who have used LED downlights. Which color do you opt for your room in which you do a lot of reading/studying?

I've been getting mixed comments.

Some say go for daylight (white), they are the most comfortable for the eyes compared to the rest.

Others say white looks boring, too white. Choose a cooler warm color. More ambience feel also. Soothing for the eyes and less glaring.

Yet others will say, go for the warmest color is the best! You can still read well with warm LED downlights. And it gives you the best cosy feel. But those against this kind of color will tell you NO!!! Warm yellow lighting is bad for the eyes for reading.

Confused now! Hope can get some kind opinions here. Thank u!!

Dear Erwinong,

Just my two-cents worth of thought.

For downlight, it really depends on how do you want your wall & furnishing to look like at night. After all, there should be a continuity from the daytime look? Fo example, if the wall is painted white, of course it is because you like the white-shade look during the day, then do you want to turn the wall into orange color at night by installing warm downlight?

It is your house, others don't live in it, do they?

For reading, better get a proper reading light (3M).

Cheers!

Hi, ErwinOng,

Warm colour lighting induces our body to produce melatonin which promotes sleep onset. That is why a warm colour tone and lower brightness level creates a more cozy and relaxing ambiance. If your space is a purely study area, white colour (6000-7000K or 4000-5000K) light is more recommendable as its high brightness discourages the secretion of melatonin and keep you awake and focused. If you have the habit of reading in the living room where a warmer tone is a preferred, you can choose warm light with high lumen output or install table lamp/ study lamp which project a high brightness area to assist your study/reading.

hope this information helps.
