Construction Of A Small Home

Recommended Posts

Sharing our Taobao lighting buys today. Fortunately for me, the hubby is into Taobao shopping and I just have to give him the link and he will do the rest. Including comparing the pricing of forwarders. He managed to find out that Peeka offers sea freight based on actual weight if you are using their forwarding service. This definitely saves us a lot of money because some of the lights are packed in bulky packaging for protection but aren't really heavy. Because of this, we saved about $60 for the shipping of our dining light. The hubby also prefers to order and send stuff in batches, he says, "don't put all your eggs in one basket."

hi huiqing,

Congratulation for your new place :D .

Love your selection of the lightings. The simplicity of it really suit for industrial scandi or industrial minimalist theme design.

It's doesn't matter for starting off with a small or big house, more important is not to overstretch the financial limit.

To be honest, we will be getting a 3rm replacement flat too (under SERS program for my neighbourhood) and still a long way to go for my flat selection and signing of all documents.

As you can see, I'm kinda kiasu person :P . Even since we had completed our renovation in end 2009, I was like quietly fade out in the forum.

So everything has to be restart again, reading old and new T-blogs, taking notes on the ID's info, checking designs online and save in our mood board, calculating how much we need to spend for reno and other things. My friends (all staying in the same neighbourhood) are like: ''huh!? why now? Still a long way to go and it'll be in 6yrs down the road". But think about it, reading a ton load of materials were not an easy job. Plus my sis BTO flat will be completed in another 1.5 or 2yrs time. All these will be handy in the later part.

Sorry for the long nag.

Love to see the complete reno of your place. Do update us with more reno photos and review of your ID.

P/S: Do you mind to share/pm the contact for your electrician? :)

Hi Pomme,

Yah, I agree it can never be too early to plan for something big.

Plus, there will always be introduction of new things along the way or our lifestyles may change.

I've PM-ed you the electrician's contact.

Our lightings came last weekend, all is well and we are very satisfied with the what we got.

Just one hiccup, one of the glass panel of our dining light broke. But luckily the seller was super nice and volunteered to replace a piece of the glass.

Just fingers crossed that they are lasting.

Finally, some works have started. Cement screed, shower screen and cabinet bases are up.

Vinyl will be laid this Saturday, air-con first installation next week.

Exciting times ahead!

We have been really lazy and have not been to the new place often considering it's just a 15 minutes walk from where we are now.

Thankfully our ID sends up updates.

Ideally vinyl shld be laid 3 to 4 weeks after screeding is done to allow it to be completely dry....

Oh dear, read your reply too late and the flooring is up. We went over to look at it, seems alright. Hopefully nothing is wrong.

Floor has been laid (we absolutely love the colour, perfect tone), aircon pipings are up. Floor has been protected.

We are looking at having the painting done and TV feature wall up this week. Progressing slowly but steadily.

This aircon drainage is a little of a joke, it's really an eyesore. We have requested our ID to make it the mirror image so it will not be so obvious and slightly blocked by the curb.

The aircon guy says it's best to have water draining straight into the water trap, if not water will always be landing on the tiles and long run it may leave a stain and cause some water proofing problem.

Guess no best of both worlds.

hi! super love your concept. may i ask which floor you're staying? looks like above 30 to me, the view is spectacular! mine will also be a 3 room BTO but will only collect the keys probably end of next year :)

can't believe the tolix chair is so cheap on fortytwo.sg, but its sold out. i wonder if its difficult to sit on? i've seen those with an additional wooden chairpad, have you seen this before?

From whom u fet the vinyl flooring from? Evorich?

Hi Sappyd, ours is from Floor xPert but arranged through our ID. The only reason why we used them is because of the colour. They have the exact colour I want. ID told us every brand is about the same the quality.

Hi matchakatte, I've seen the one with a piece of wood before but not so keen on it because afraid of splints in long run. Hee hee, don't wanna risk my bum bum. We have not opened the chairs because it came nice wrapped, we just chucked it into the bomb shelter. It looks like what we see outside thou. We are staying on the 27th. The first time I went to look at the 3rm flat I got a shock at the size, after a few visits I am accustomed to it. Easy to maintain. Hee hee.

Hi tellmiwhy00, we actually made an appointment with Andy from my friend's recommendation to view the sofa and choose the fabric colour. Our sofa is not here yet as renovations are still underway. Lead time is 9 weeks, we had our eyes set on the sofa when we first saw it online and we were not wavered when we visited the showroom. Chose the colour and paid a 50% deposit. I would say the service is good at the showroom, but the showroom is quite packed on the Saturday we went. I encourage you to go and take a look because the colours are really a little different from the website, it's a very nice cozy little place.
