Easy-going Contractor's quote

Recommended Posts

Finally! I have just received keys to my 4-room resale flat with an area of 101 sqm. This is the start of my renovation journey which I can foresee is gonna give me many many sleepless nights.

I intend to meet up with a few contractors, all recommended either by my friends or relatives. Contractors that I know won't take my money and disappear...haha

My encounter with the first contractor Mr C was quite a good one. He seems rather earnest and experienced. His company, W, has been in the business for 16 years. On our first appointment, he came to my house and had a look at the place. He did not really take much measurements but just went around looking at the place and knocking on the walls. I met up with him yesterday and he gave me his quote. He took about a week to come up with the quote. When I went through the items on his quote, I pointed out that he has missed out quite a number of items. We added in the items, made some adjustments and the total cost came up to about 44k. There were things like socket points, hacking of cabinet and shelves in room that I requested him to put into the quote. But he said these are small things and he can do them for free. His quote on cabinets also do not take into account actual measurements. I'm not sure if I can trust his words although he really seemed like an honest guy. Is it normal to receive quotes without measurements taken?

Could you guys please take a look at his quote (see my link) and advise? Thanks!  Im sorry... cant seem to upload the jpeg file and therefore have to link you to my blog.
