Tips to select furniture for small spaces

Recommended Posts

If you live in a house or an apartment that doesn't have much space then it's not that easy to find the right kind of furniture. Here are a few tips to keep in mind before you go shopping for furniture:

1) Corner Shelving: This is a great way to put your pictures and books without cluttering up the living room. Corner shelving with five tray-style shelves will add an additional display space as well as complement the decor in your home ( http://www.surplusfurniture.com/blog/furniture-for-small-spaces-you-have-more-room-than-you-think/ ).

2) Coffee Tables: Select coffee tables with bold angles and sleek designs. The glass insert on the cocktail tabletop creates an extra addition to the living area.

3) Keep it Slim: Select furniture that is slim and will suit your small living space best. Picking a sofa with skinny arms and tight upholstered back would be better than choosing a sofa with fat rolled arm and multi-cushioned back ( http://www.bhg.com/decorating/small-spaces/strategies/furniture-for-small-spaces/ ).

4) Look for secondary storage options: Small homes do not have much of a storage option. That's why it would be better to select furniture with has additional storage included like tables with drawers and ottomans with hidden compartments.

5) Reuse: You could use a Trunk for a coffee table and even put in a lot of stuff under tall beds.

Choose lightweight and compact furniture.

Use wall-mounted furniture.

A piece of furniture such as a sofa that doubles as a bed  would be an excellent addition to a small room.

Coffee table and desk combo for the living room.
