Rubbish Chute Door Handle Design not properly sealed against cockroaches

My house recently changed to this kind of rubbish chute door (refer to pic). The problem is the handle of this chute door allows cockroaches to enter. When I seal the chute on fumigation days, I place a piece of tape across the handle and it ends up catching a lot of roaches that are trapped at the handle part. (The other sides are properly sealed too, and they end up catching some small roaches as well.)
My question: anyone has a similar rubbish chute door and similar problem with catching a lot of roaches at the door handle?

also, do roaches enter your house other than on fumigation days through the chute and what can I do to prevent that?
