A Simple Place @ Bedok =)

Recommended Posts

I more or less guess was that blk!! haha! Like out of nowhere HDB just decides to rebuild a new blk in the midst of all the other old blks! Very busy location wor.. with the new expressway exit nearby. I used to stay at 132!

Yeah, I have the same question in my head, why all of the sudden got a new block... Anyway, I am not complaining since it is going to be my new home. :)

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

the same spot used to be a 'no room no hall' (hokkien) rental block. well, under the first crass gahmen objective of maximising land use & profit, it is now a block of 4 & 5 rooms. the next plot of land awaiting new flats to be built would be near blk 85 market, previously occupied by blk 83, next to the long staircase mrs piglet used to climb in her teenage days. :)

skyblue, yours a good choice of newer flats in Bedok besides block 10 at Bedok South. Longvale at Bedok Reservoir is quite inconvenient in terms of transport and amenities, while blk 180 to 185 are quite small being flats built abt 5yrs back. your block is within walking distance to post office, dry cleaners, GP & specialist clinics, 24 hr coffee shops etc etc. Excellent!!

Thanks for your compliments and the information in your first paragraph, DL838. Let me now elaborate a little more from my first post. Initially, I was only targeting at point blocks (such as 413, 414, 415, 417, 505, 506, 516), but the prices were just too steep and they are all relatively old, thus I sort of hold back first. Sometimes, I just called to check the price, and if it was too steep, I didn't even bother to view it, since it was beyond my budget, so no point viewing.

Then came this block that I bought, and after checking it out, like what you said, it is totally a good choice to get around within walking distance. The only "problem" is - should you take a bus back from interchange, the bus stop that you alight will require you to cross the road with the overhead bridge (by the way, I drive). This is fine for young adults, but for the seniors, it would be rather inconvenient. So, I told my mother to take bus 222 from outside interchange so that when she alight, there is no need to use the overhead bridge, just that the journey is a big round about. Haha... :)

By the way, I was wondering if anyone can help me with some suggestions on the type of curtains/blinds for these two rooms below?

Bedroom 3 - my own study/work room (opposite master bedroom). I was thinking of roller blinds, is this a good choice?

Wk6_DSCF2756.jpg

Guest/game/study room - beside the main balcony. This room could be study room for my nieces, or games room (mahjong) for me. I was also thinking of roller blinds, what do you guys think?

Wk6_DSCF2754.jpg

Or would curtain be a better choice for the 2 rooms?

Also, anyone here has good recommendation on where/who I can approach to get curtains/blinds done up? Appreciate your help and suggestions, thanks in advance. :)

Congrat skyblue, it is really a major overhaul :)

I got the same downlight as you (the one **** and study), also got the same light as your kitchen one, I bought it for yard :D

I like your private balcony, what do you intend to do with it, cozy corner?

After all the hacking, did it alter a lot on the floor plan? Can you post the latest floor plan to show the difference...

Thanks, bigcat. At the moment, I have not thought of what to do with the private balcony, do you have any great ideas? :D

Creating the latest floor plan on my own is a "difficult" task, anyway I've done it, hope you all can still understand and pardon my unskillful "drawings"...

This one is original from HDB:

This is what I had "done" - latest:

Can see the difference I hope. ;)

Hello again,

preciousjam, your suggestion can be considered. ;)

It was so tedious to upload the photos, took me about an hour to do so. Anyway, today is end of week 8, and there’s lots of photos to show – mainly toilet fittings and carpentry works for this week.

End of Week 8 - Part 1

I believe I left out this particular light previously, installed at service balcony.

Aircon installation

Aircon compressor installed in the private balcony. The whole block of my unit had the aircon compressor installed in the private balcony, thus taking up quite some space and this balcony is not so "private" after all. By the way, I just realised that this door also can open inwards (besides outwards), I'm slow, haha...

Aircon installed in the Master Bedroom, above the bathroom door.

Wk8_DSCF2805.jpg

Aircon installed in Bedroom 2.
