  2. Peeeaccce to Blk 677A... hopefully, it will last..
  3. Since they just moved in, take the opportunity for some casual chit-chat ... maybe it's a just a move-in ritual they have to practise for like "seven seven forty-nine days".... Hope some Hindu friends can clarify... I'm curious too..
  4. Hi Jas 83, Do you intend to place the purifier in the bedrm or living rm? Maybe you want to take into consideration the coverage area and air change cycle. The Austin Healthmate is not really very big… as compared to the Bluair range and it comes with wheels.. can wheel around. My boss is using Austin Healthmate in his office and he seems pretty satisfied with it since he has pretty bad asthma. The hepa filters lasted him pretty long, close to 5 years.. so the maintenance is pretty minimal. Was told that for ppl with asthma, is not advisable for them to have the ionizer function. So, what set me aside from the Austin are the price and the lack of ionizer function. I have gone thru the germitrol brochures…and found that it is better for killing air-borne germs that causes sickness (maybe good for swine flu?)… but I will need the machine to pick up dustmites, moulds spores and other allergens in the air. We have looked at a few models from Bluair, Honeywell and Sharp… Bluair is super quiet and has very powerful air suction but at the same time, filters need to be replaced very frequently…9 months to a year.. and the size is real bulky. While Honeywell by far is the noisiest when we tested it out at best denki.. I think is not so ideal for bedrms. Now we are considering the Sharp FU-S51E.. the suction is not bad, relatively quiet and considering the price, it is made in japan.
  5. Get those electric bug zapper....usually in a form of blue-light lamp or the "tennis racket" which you practise your tennis strokes with...
  6. Ya... there are many sizes available in the market.. we got our black marble coffee table from Harvey Norman. Harvey Norman has a range of sizes, shapes and quality... the showroom one can be quite nice but when we go down to their warehouse to pick.. choices very limited unless you can wait for next shipment. Our neighbour got their white marble dining table from Leads Furniture, not sure about the price but must say the marble quality is very good. Your budget of $600 can be quite tight... you may want to try Silver River at Paya Lebar, we came across their black marble coffee table at around 500+ only..
  7. Oh.. the 7-11 is opened... i think overall response is good huh.. haha.. we went down to buy papers in the morning to find Sunday Times all snapped up.. end up we have to walk back to coffee shop..
  8. Fanco is not bad.. using the model: FF9 close to 5 months liao... for us, we usually on the medium speed.. the low speed not useful while high is too high, newspapers starts flying.. maybe we have lower than norm ceiling bah
  9. saw the little shop space next to 7-11 is also doing reno... is it also under 7-11 huh? or another new shop?
  10. tsk tsk tsk... how can Ikea do business like this?... gonna boycott their so called stainless steel and wood stuff for a long while... did I mention the 2piece wooden chopping board.. it turn mouldy at the sides after few uses... another boo boo...
  11. Thanks yoongf was looking for a air purifier and now I've got a air steriliser... had requested for a quote and shall wait and see if the price is right. Notice it function by trapping the micro-organisms in the filters and killing them in the UV light chamber... it's works alittle like the pest killer i'm using...
  12. Trying to find out more about Air Purifier in the forum but find the older topics are being deleted... Anyway, everyone care to share/recommend the brand of purifier you are using at home? Intending to get one to clean up the air in the house... have been suffering really bad nasal allergies every other day, once I get off the medication ... did wat we could, thorough housekeeping every week etc.. but seems like I'm still allergic to my house.. Currently looking at the Austin Healthmate purifier. Anyone using this? Was told that the conventional purifier with ion and UV functions produce small amount of ozone. Small amount but is still harmful to our lungs if we inhale it in the long run
  13. Agree with the ikea cutlery!... since there's only 2 of us.. so we took out 2 sets for our daily use, the remaining few sets were washed and placed nicely in the cutlery tray in the drawer for guests. To our horror, for no reason those in the drawer started turning rusty... & the cheap sauce pans and pots we got ikea started to tarnish after few use... really disgusting... so we heeded one of the forumer's advice... got ourselves a WMF set.. no regrets..
  14. Hahaha... the light colored walls.... reminds me of kids playing hide & seek during housewarming ... we had to wipe off the hand and footprints after that.... furniture wise... we had glossy white laminates for our kitchen cabinets, tv consoles, bomb shelter cover and bedside cabinets... so far so good... still white.. no regrets.. we worried about maintenance problem too initially ... can take a look at the thread about materials regret using.. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19954 Btw.. The wooden strips covering ur bomb shelter.. are they laminates?
  15. Hehe... dun get too worried about maintaining white doors... having stayed in our unit for 4+months... we only wipe our white doors twice .. once during moving in and another time during CNY.... til now, still very white.... no dust-feel... i find them pretty and rather easy to maintain.. Your place is really taking shape very very nicely.... so cosy and relaxing feeel...country yet very current..
  16. Hi raindroops! We have the same floorplan, i think the slant hall in some ways make the floor plan more interesting. That's why, we've seen so many creative ways of arranging our furnitures in the forum. Hope to see more photos coming in from you..
  17. Hmm.. we didnt install one at our current place too coz used to have one at parents' place. Never really used it though, ended up more like a decoration.. coz the suction function not very significant... and while it's still up there, cleaning it wasnt easy with all the grease accumulated and hidden.. Anyway, we have a power point and compartment done up in case we do intend to install it in the future but so far so good without a hood, we do light to medium cooking on the weekends including frying finger food etc. Each time after cooking/frying, we will just wipe one round with detergent to ensure grease is removed and not accumulated. So depending whether u like to do diligent but light cleaning or one shot very siong one?
  18. Kitchen sink and tap from Poh Joo... the sink starts rusting in less than 2 weeks we moved in. We worked in the daytime so only use the sink at night and sometimes in the morning, it's not that it's soak in water all the time, yet so fast start to rust liao. Another nightmare is the tap, it leaked and burst water after 2 months... Really lauya ... and somemore the pricing for both items is midrange ... we got a emergency $30 cheap tap to replace and so far, it's still working pretty well...
  19. Sepultura, you may wish to complain to the Town council officially in writing first. They would then forward to the relevant authorites (HDB, police) to look into the matter and advise u accordingly. As for my case, the noise is of a bigger scale and several units have already written in before us to complain. So what the town council did was directly refer us to police and the police also did reply to us that so long the noise is intolerable after office hours, we can contact them and they will monitor the situation. Hmm.. so far, we have not call in the police yet coz the situation has improved abit.. the noise is still there on and off but not like goin on continously for hours and in the late and early hours of the day. Sometimes, we pity that noise-maker family though, their family is already quite messed up but they cannot expect others to live with the noise too. Sepultura, No point nagging at the noise-makers actually. Contact the authorities, know your rights. Check with your neighbours whether they are affected also and complain together lor, make sure the complaint is recorded officially.
  20. Rumi... I think it does make sense, similar to pregnant moms listening to classical music or soothing music "for" their babies to cultivate artistic learning ... except that moms at our estate have "extra training" for their kids to be more daring... lol..
  21. It doesnt quite matter which direction is stronger... if your block has an obstruction there.. no matter how strong.. also cannot enjoy.. hahah..
  22. For newbies, i think it's better to start off with some easy to keep fishies... anyway, after u have set up your new tank, u would need some "guinea pigs" to test-swim in it too... Meanwhile, if the guinea pigs are doing well and happily swimming around.. then you slowly upgrade and look around lor...if got confidence liao, then get the aro. Experience is gained as we go along.. sometimes the fishies show signs of falling sick.. sometimes, they just simply die for you to see... it's inevitable lah.. although it hurts sometimes, $$ and also sentimental sake.. sob sob.. Yes.. fish keeping can be an expensive hobby.. the tank itself is a sum of money.. then we have monthly water, electricity bills, stocking up makan for your fishies (superworms, froggies, prawns (esp during CNY!!), sotong, feeder fishies, pellets etc etc) , tank accessories... the list just goes on.. We recently just moved into our new place too... moved in the tanks and also expanded on the collection... the process wasnt easy but at the end of the day, seeing the fishies swimming happily in their new home.. it's all worth it..
