Have you ever given it a thought? If you are doing a FAIR LOT of work to your house... How can an accurate quotation be given without first viewing the work site? This way, a company can give a very low quote. When ur happy and sign on the dotted line, means confirmed. Then they do a site survey. Then you realise that the actual costs exceeds the quotation by quite a fair bit. Cos the contractor tells you that this must add $$ that must add $$ after site visit. All these costs will fall under "Variable Order" section. You realise that by then, it is no longer the cost that you thought it was. Its more now. You feel good? Your home might not turn out to be exactly what you wanted. Simply cos there wasnt' a site survey done before you sign. Any contractor can hantam a low price to make you sign and confirm. If you wanna sign such thing, pls make sure you read and ask about the TERMS & CONDITION. If after you sign and decide to back out, there will usually be a penalty fee. If there isn't, then its GOOD. Its like buying insurance plan from an agent... the agent MUST meet you first, then access your situation and budget. And also find out what you want instead of selling you what they think is good. don't sign without knowing exactly what you will get. I work for a ID renovation & construction firm. My company does a site survery first before giving any quote, unless customer doesn't want us to visit the site. We will then inform the customer that it will only be a rough quotation. it will NOT be accurate. We inform before hand. I'm NOT promoting anything and also NOT pointing fingers here, I'm not in offensive mode. but would just like to shed some light on this industry to those who are new. Don't silly silly get hooked up. Then regret your decision costing thousands of dollars and possibly your new home which ur gonna stay in for the next few years. Anyone is welcomed to PM me for enquires or questions. I'll try my best to help answer your questions. Cheers! Make peace -
Your contractor is correct. it is 30ft total. Each length is 10ft. there are 3 lenghts. so its 10ft x 3. It is calculated by Per Foot Run. What you are calculating is Per Square Feet. The difference is that Per Square Feet calculates the area of the surface. Per Foot Run calculates the length of the surface. Solid surface is calculated and sold by the Foot Run. Limited to 600mm width for every Foot Run. Anything more than 600mm would be another price

U prob went to them straight for a quote. If you want solid surface, PM me, I've a better price lower than $90 per foot run. Cheers

LG's solid surface uses very good materials. Yes LG, the electronics brand... They do solid surfaces too. Usually the cheaper ones uses polyster. LG uses acrylic. not the normal acrylic from the acrylic sheets of cos.

You cannot assume. You gotta ask them if its included. Look at the price quote for an idea. if its very cheap, then prob its not included. But more often than not, it IS included. They would do a complete job, of cos you pay for the materials and labour.

Your ID is prob lazy or don't wanna go tru the hassle. Nyatoh wood can be painted. If the wood is new and unpainted, sealer aka undercoat must be used. If the wood already comes with varnish or painted, then gotta sand down the door before painting it. I've done up many nyatoh doors using paint. No problem. No peeling or paint cannot absorb. It boils down on how you paint it. You have to use undercoat for a brand new unpainted wood.

Kitchen Sink Mounting Choice: Insert Vs Undermount
cruz replied to gaiusparx's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Some designs require the tap to be mounted onto the stainless stell sink. This design will cause the tap to sway as the stainsteel sheet of the sink is thin and flimsy. Another option is to mount the tap onto the kitchen top instaed of the sink. You have the option to do so. All sinks come without the hole to mount the tap. You have to get the shop to cut a hole in it. Don't cut the hole on the sink then, cut the hole onto your kitchen top instead. -
It is not so easy to DIY. The gysum boards need to be mounted with metal brackets aka "U-channel". These U-channels needs to be secured to your walls / floor via screws or studs. Then also you might need to cut the U-channels and gypsum boards to suit the dimensions. If you wanna hide the ugly joint where 2 gypsum boards meet, you have to use a kind of netting to lay over the joints, then plaster over. then paint. If you really wanna do up partition board, do consider calling this fella at 9145 3646 or 6858 0750. Will be able to do the job for a reasonable price. BTW there are different kinds of boards to use. gypsum being the cheapest. Quality difference.

So far i've not heard of cases where the glass breaks. Maybe your case unlucky, one in a million. I've done many homes with glass backings at the stove area. None broke even after a long time. If you are interested in doing up a glass backing for your kitchen area, price est about $900-1K+ tempered glass comes with colour of your choice. Call 9145 3646 or 68580750 to see what can be done for you. cheers

The wood that they use on the back of the lorries are just common plywood. They do not have to withstand and it is not intended to withstand harsh weather. Instead it is made to withstand abuse from the loading and unloading of heavy items, some sort of cheap protection for the lorry metal base. Over time, the plywood does not look good, and is not in good condition. I'm sure you do not want your balcony decking to be in such a run down condition after sometime. The reason ply wood is used for the back of lorries, is because its cheap and serves its purpose. It is also cheap to replace should you wanna change it. It will not look and feel good or be in good condition over time for sure due to rain and sun.
