    Water Filters

Hi Doulian, Chanson is the largest taiwanese company that makes water ionizers. However since they do not have endorsement like water ionizerss from Japan or Korean, in my opinion the product will be lower in standing because of that compared to Japan or Korean system. I chanced on 1 recently which was the Chanson Miracle M.A.X (latest in design) It looked very different from the pictures in the web which was egonormic, classy etc. The main issue is that the filter they had inside the machine is actually so small I could hide it with my palms covering it. Because of this "issue" there is a 3 set filter on the external which is recommended to filter out more stuff because the lack of it inside the system. There was a supplier here a while ago.. but I am not sure if they are still in business... Overall appearance can be deceving... so pls see the actual product before deciding. Cheers!
  2. I have went through such a situation before except its not furniture based Procedure, proceed to CASE and they will handle for you but u need to be member 1st. If it too much of a hassle, go to small claims and make a report. They will provide u with a date to attend a pre-trial hearing to try to settle it amicably face to face in front of a trained but retired lawyer. Scenerios will be like this below. 1) If on the date they fail to turn up, you will automatically get the full refund with cost and a registered letter will be sent to them. If they refuse to pay in full you can get a seizure notice and go to their company to seize item to make up for the cost. (sounds super vengeful huh?) 2) If they turn up, make you case and see how the matter can be settled. If there is no compromise within 1 month, you will go to the actual small claims, in front of the judge the final verdict will be ordered such as your items to be delivered by this date and time at proper condition etc, if not... go to (1) In Singapore... do not worry about not getting back you refund or items.... you will be duly compensated. Just waste time and energy.... but better than nothing Hope that helps.... As my case was a long while ago... I cant help in numbers....

Hi Mcc, Nice that you managed to purchased the novita alkaline water ionizer. At that price I believe that is really a steal if the system last for 7 years or more as computated. A water ionzier is the best investment a person can buy for the family in my opinion. However the computation is somewhat basic... there are other things to include such as warranty period which will deal its fair share into the recurring cost. The other thing that bugs me currently is recurring cost, the filter is only able to filter out 3600L of water which would translate to 10L a day. This 10L of water should be translated to an average of 60 - 70% in alkalinity and 30 - 40% acidity. So actual usage of water is about 6 - 7L of alkaline water a day only. If its a small household... its good...... if not changing that filter 2x a year is more of a norm than exception. Holding out changing the filter is also not possible as the micro-chip prevents you from using the filter beyond the lifespan.. so you will be "forced" to change. Your computation at 7 years for jupiter alphion is S$2608 while novita 9932 is S$2580, so not including other differences such as jupiter has a 2 year warranty while novita is a 1 year warranty is not really correct. Throw in the jupiter filter is 6000L while the novita is 3600L into the works. (Jupiter filter is 50L/dollar while Novita is ~16L/dollar at 0.01M filtration.) This is extremely important as u have to use alkaline water sparringly from a novita system while the jupiter is almost doubled in volume. Anything more than 1 filter the next 7 year for the novita will allow jupiter to catch up by 1 1/2 years in break even costing, anyting more than 2 extra filters... you might as well buy the jupiter. I was really trying not to say gimmicky... but the more I am typing... the more it sounds like it... Hope I am not bruising egos here. What I do like is that the system seem kinda pretty at the display. It has a solid feel about it as well. So eventhough I have raised some serious concerns up there... its a good system at sub 1K... The manufacturer is relatively new in the market. started in Dec 2002, and only had its iso 9001 and 14001 in 2008 and 2004 respectively. The models you see in novita is their 1st 3 of 6 systems. If novita is buying from them... they will bring the latest 3 models into singapore soon. Cheers

Wow 1 year warranty.. thats smart. since its cheap.. they dun really have to care about it spoiling. If it does too bad so sad... so have to pay to fix. Nowadays the warranty should be more than that. I bought my TV at 3 + 2 years warranty. My Jupiter is 2 years. As for the cleaning functions... every water ionizer has them... does not need to be novita. lol My filter cost is now S$120 0.01M filter... Checked market prices for such stuff... at least $200 and above. Filter is used for 1 year or 6000L of water, this translate to 16L odd a day to use up 6000L. My family of 3 with 2 kids rarely finish it as well. On alkaline water I take the water, boil them and put it into a vaccum flask to keep it hot, mix it only when needed. This hot water is for my 2 babies The higher the level.. the better for the extraction of nutrients from tea, coffee, soup etc I dun know about the ID part. check with them. credit card promo sure have like any other retail outlets... think like 0% installent... If you have cash back... this is a good option can save somemore. Cheers!

The fact that they advertisment mentioned it as a new model.. after 1 1/2 years... is interesting. My take is that nobody bought it due to lack of interest or awareness at the original price. The advert was meant to get those who are already looking for water ionizer to buy but found cost too high. However the recurring cost such as filters are alarming. I remembered that 1 single filter was needed and am not sure if 1 filter cost $260 or 2 filters were needed to complete 1 year. I am not totally sure about the warranty period of novita as well. Water ionizers are not your typical electronic systems. They will need certain filter change and the occasional servicing. Not knowing the after sales support is abeit like walking into the unknow, however since its like 50% off why not? Still I feel funny about this promo... again I might over think this... they could be rolling new products out or slowly phasing out the range of ionizers... As in which water ionizer is popular, I trust the longer the system is in the market the more mature it will be. My mom used the 1st generation Mavello in 2001 while i used the 3 generation mavello in 2005. So far there has not been any issues on the system.. in fact my mavello was "hijack" by my PIL during confinement (read my earlier post). Now I am settling with my jupiter. Just to let you know the Jupiter Delphi is S$2888 (saw it in the papers a couple of day ago). Not cheap if you consider it the most expensive in Kemp showroom. However if you make comparisions like i have... you might think this price would be comparable to other competitors in the market but so much more chioer <--- (if there's such a word) Water ionizers do not have hot or cold water as far as i been using them. The quality of ionized water is at its best when freshly produced. But upon heating up... it will lose some of the effect. However its still better than using tap water to boil etc. Hope that helps!

It true that normal filters will cost more in the long run. Alkaline ionized water is endorsed by both the japan and korean governmental bodies as a treatment and preventive treatment for certain conditions and illments of the body. I would suggest to read up more at any water ionizers provider website. this would give u a general idea why ionized water is getting so hot here as well. there are other alkaline ionized water beands... going into the departmental stores will show 2 brands... think novita and cleansui. panasonic is coming in as well... remembered seeing it in isetan. hope that helps!

Hyflux 3 filters would cost $800+ and you will have to change filters around $500+ every year... I am using Alkaline ionized water from jupiter. They have a quite few models that start from low 1k to high 2k. I took the high end ones due to space constraints in my new place. My older system was sub 1k+ that is now stuck in my parents place. filter price is $120 a year if i remember correctly. Cheers

If you are looking for filters then find anything that give 0.01m filtration... This is good quality water filter system.. Any brand will be ok.. so long as they have future stocks. If you are looking for healthy water then find alkaline ionized water. there are a few brands in the marktet and it good to find more from them. If you need further help, just ask I will be glad to help in any way. Take some time to read through the thread and post questions... i dun get tired repeating so long people are aware of whats in the market especially for water. Cheers! Cheers

Hi sry James, Was overseas. Jupiter systems here is no mlm. It's actually direct. Btw the systems do not cost that expensive. They start from $1388 onwards if I am not wrong. My mom just upgraded her system after 10 years not because it's broken but rather it does not fit into her kitchen decor. I did a test on her system and it seems ok still so she decided to pads the older system to my grandpa to use temporary. So I would assume that the plates would last u as many years as my mom's. Hope that helps!

Tyent is sold under the watersource branding. price is kinda steep think like S$2.4K+, there are cheaper and better systems in singapore though if you ask me. They are relatively new in the market as well.. maybe 2 years? Tyent is no different from jupiter in terms of technology however prices are different. So end story is to check them out and understand them fully before purchasing. Cheers!

My wife dragged me there kiking and screaming as I could not see the benefits of going to such an ulu place... but when i was there... VERY INTERESTING!... For guys its like u found a sim lim square with bargain IT products... If need address tell me, I'll ask my wife.... Recently saw the shop we went on discovery channel when a famous exec chef in charge of the restaurant on top of Marina Sands visited them to get hardware stuff... Cheers!

    Home Lighting

Whatever the cost... please bear that lights do tend to be problematic during the 1yr running in... balast issue... wiring etc... Please factor in these cost in the company you get it from... I got the "cheapest" lights in singapore but in the end.. had to pay for electrician to come and refix the lights again and again.... adding in the extra cost and inconvenience... I don't save much.... hope the above helps.... cheers!

Hi Kst, From what i know, our stomach acidity will not be always at a low pH level.. they do have a more acidic pH when there is food in the stomach or a lesser acidic pH when the stomach is empty. What I do know is this.. after the 1965 endorsement by the MOH in Japan, which is roughly 1 generation of consumers. If there were side effect issues of the technology... they would have pulled the plug off the endorsement. I personally have been drinking since my mother bought the system in the early 2002, which is roughly 10 years... so far so good... Cheers!

I am using Jupiter water ionizers. Company selling is Kemp Trading. They are specilized as in selling this type of systems alone. However there are new water ionizers marketed by other new players in the market. Do visit them as well or go direct to kemp... you will get all your questions answered. cheers...

Novita is deemed as a lifestyle makers, they have a large range of products to choose from thus the name. However if you are looking at specific products then one should think about a specialized supplier. Below are a few reasons 1) water ionizers are not similar to everyday electronic items, they need filter change, servicing, maintenance etc thus a specialized supplier will be better to service u 2) novita if I am not wrong do not produce water ionizes themselves but outsource to a 3rd party, knowing where they get their systems will allow you to know the factory's track record. As brands in this industry are not that famously known as compared to the likes of sony, samsung etc. A more through research will be better. This goes for all other players in the industry as well. 3) track records are important. True.... new players have no track records but that does not mean they are not worth the time. However if there are olders players in the market and more established, it ls worth it to visit them to hear them out and compare the difference. 4) pricing of the water ionizers varies alot over here in Singapore. There are discrepancies in the pricing between Singapore and let's say US. It is mostly understood if a product produced in nearby regions such as japan or Korea should cost cheaper in Singapore compared to US by virtue of air miles. However this logic does not stand with some providers here. pls do a more thorough check on the web especially US websites as they are currently the largest market consumers by systems sold. I hope the above helps. Cheers

Hi Kst, Its nice to know that you are considering such a system. As a consumer, I would always tell friends to be empowered with information and thus making a better decision. To answer your points, the website you have indicated is really nothing new. In fact I chance upon it a long while ago and caused me thinking as well. Life science by training, I am privileged to understand the terms and arguments by stephen lower http://www.chem1.com/CQ/ionbunk.html. I would loved to rebutt his comments but someone beat me to it.... haha. Below is the rebuttal on that website chem1.com rebuttal However to directly answer your points of concern. See below links for simple answers 1. If you do drink alkaline water, its alkalinity is quickly removed by the highly acidic gastric fluid in the stomach. This is a link to your query. By sang Wang on stomach juices 2. Uptake of water occurs mainly in the intestine, not in the stomach. But when stomach contents enter the intestine, they are neutralized and made alkaline by the pancreatic secretions — so all the water you drink eventually becomes alkaline anyway. (In the digestive process, acid-alkaline balance is affected by the secretions of the stomach and the pancreas. These secretions are absorbed into the bloodstream and affect the rest of the body. When food is eaten, the stomach secretes hydrochloric acid. In response to this acid, the pancreas secretes bicarbonate which neutralizes the stomach acid so that pancreatic enzymes can work properly. Normally, after eating, there are transient changes in blood pH, known as the acid and alkaline tides, which correspond to the stomach and pancreatic secretions. Usually the pH of the blood quickly returns to normal. However, if digestive secretions are out of balance, then the whole body can be affected. Some physicians, like Dr. William Philpott, feel that insufficient secretion of pancreatic bicarbonate is a major cause of over-acidity in the body. Other digestive problems that affect the body's pH are diarrhea, which results in a loss of bicarbonate, and vomiting, which results in a loss of acid. Just as the pH of the bloodstream is kept under tight control, the acid-alkaline environment inside the cells is also regulated so that it remains within narrow bounds. One way that this regulation occurs is by pumps in the cell membrane that cause hydrogen to enter or exit from the cell. Many of these pumps require phosphorus and magnesium to function so that micronutrient nutrition is a factor affecting acid-alkaline balance. Another way that cells regulate the pH inside the cell is by changing the chemical reactions that occur so that more or less hydrogen is produced) Top taken from www.waterworks4you.com. The gist of the matter is this.. our bodies are balanced naturally, however the diet & lifestyle decisions we make are not balanced. Thus the body can NEVER produce a balance result when you are not providing the necessary materials in the 1st place. Our bodies store alkaline reserves when we are in our younger days where our parents forced us to take a heathy diet. So with this reserve... we keep acidic waste as arms length... as reserves becomes lesser... higher acidity builds up in our bodies creating initial mild acidic conditions.. which will lead to moderate and followed by severe conditions... 3. "Ionized"/alkaline water is falsely claimed to be an anti-oxidant. It is actually an oxidizing agent, as can be seen by its ability to decolorize iodine On the contrary, antioxidants can be measured under ORP (oxidative reduction potential) the more +ve it is... the more oxidative... and the reverse is true. So do go measure it. Iodine is oxidative in nature and will kill organisms it get in contact with.. thats the reason we apply such chemicals to our wounds to kill whatever bacteria that may be infection our cut and wounds... 4. Claims that "ionized" waters are antioxidants are untrue; hypochlorites (present in most such waters) are in fact oxidizing agents. Hypochlorites are chemical compounds that cause the ionizer to produce extreme high alkalinity and acidity. this is used in hospital settings where high levels of acidity is needed to disinfect equipments or used as treatments on skin conditions. I recently came across a translational text from japan health ministry that they have approved the used of acidic water for the disinfection of endoscopy equipment in 2002. 5. Claims that "water ionizers are approved for use in Japanese hospitals" are misleading: these "approvals" merely attest to the machines' safety — that they will not electrocute you! My understanding is that the Japanese Health Ministry is highly critical of therapeutic claims made for alkaline water. Again not true... sigh.. I had to search high and low to find this out..... if you are going to kemp trading.. they should have that certificate that indicates the approval for use as medical treatment for gastrointestional tract conditions since 8th Oct 1965 Do note there is always 2 sides of the coin to look at and I am glad you looked at 1 side.. now look at the other and make that informed decision.. I have The folks at the company you mentioned will provide whatever information you need. That is the experience gained from years marketing this type of systems in Singapore, I would have taken a longer route if not for them. Cheers!

Not sure about that. Never measured UV radition in water before. Should be safe if not the ministry will be coming down hard on them. As for bacteria... like what my professor told us many eons ago. Drinking bateria "poo" is not very nice isnt it? Basically bacteria which are living creatures will deposit waste into the water you drink. This water will be acidic as it is similar to our waste. Thus changing the filters regularly is very important. So rather than just filteration.. one should consider another technology called ionization which splits up the water source into alkalinity and acidity, this way baceria waste will not be present in our drinking water. Furthermore alkaline ionized water is beneficial to the body in many aspect which are documented and clinically proven in Japan and Korea to the point that its approved as a medical device by govermental bodies in these 2 countries. Cheers!

Filters from Amyway is generally a filter nothing more nothing less. What is of concern would be the UV ability of the new Amway water filter. Coming from a laboratory background... I would need 20 - 30 mins to sterilize my working area using UV radiation. The older amway would do this as they have a chamber to UV the water.. However the newer filter system uses uv from the filter to kill bacteria... I am really concerned about this as so far there is no scientific proof that this is possible and weather if it can last the filter lifespan.... End of the day, if you are looking for filteration technology to get filtered water... go for the smallest micron size possible... its not the number of filters that matter but rather the size that matters... the smaller micron size the more you can trap. But please remember to change the filters regularly as bacteria trap in the filters will deposit their waste into the water which we would be taking to cook drink etc. Thats why I do not subscribe to just filtration but also ionizaton as well. Brownish substance can be a few factors... one of them would be scales... aka lime / calcium. As our water has minerals.. constantly cooking water will cause minerals to be dried at the sides of the wall especially if they are metal surface. Its not rust but rather oxidizaton of the calcium at the side. To remove this use vinegar or citric acid. I used to do that until i realized that constant boiling of water causes it to become worse. Now I use a quick boiler and keep it in a vaccum flask with the inside made of glass to prevent scaling and keeping the quality of the water to be tip top for my kids to drink. Hope the above helps...

    Water Filters

Hi Tom, I am not saying that the system is not fit for drinking. Its a given when it comes to clean water from a filter system otherwise why install in the 1st place? However when it comes to health benefits... thats a whole different ball game. So far C520 not approved nor endorsed by any health authority so far (correct me if I am wrong... but the website i visited last week could have new updates)So the money question is why say "alkaline nano water filter?" I hardly believe its for fun... but to draw customers that it for health.... so I leave it to consumers to think about it. Anyone now "claims" to be alkaline... but how alkaline is the question. That it the burining question. The testing documents in Singapore does not state the pH of the water. furthermore pH is not the only factor claimed by C520 alkaline energy water system. However the benefits are not validated by any organization. If there is please provide it to us. I dun know about wall papers... but if you talk about water filter systems prices.... I know the market relatively well based on my friends who are doing the business in the market with factories about the world. We all know prices from our neighbour is much cheaper as there is more competition and more variety. There are market forces at play.... so comparing Singapore and Malaysia... its not that simple as it is.... I maybe the "wet blanket" however I believe consumers have the right to know the difference and make that informed decision. Cheers
